The demise of 1300AM

Spoke to one of the 1530 radio guys (can’t remember his name) at Star Ranch Golf Course two days ago and asked them about when the antenna is going to be completed. The guy told me that its up and they have been testing it. He told me that the testing should be done shortly.

I broke down today and gave it a chance out of respect for Bucky. Experiment complete. No way, no how. Done. Steve Czaban it is for now.

I'll have to give it a listen. Sammy and Bob drove me off morning radio a few years back. Bob without Sammy has got to be better.

Bob Cole sounds like he is acting/faking it when I hear him on radio.

Bucky sounds like he wants to retire but can't.

Someone help this town out with some good sports radio. My gosh, what a great opportunity for someone to step up.

I tried to listen again this morning to Bob and Bucky. SUCKED. I can't do it. Chad Hastings said "E minus 5 days" yesterday on 1530 as they were closing out their show. So, E may be on next week. CAN'T FREAKIN WAIT.
Anyone know if there's any truth to the rumor that Bucky might join E on 1530 after his contract with CrapChannel is up this summer?

I also heard Hastings say that Hogan is in fact going to be "on air" at 1530 as soon as next week. And they are keeping it a secret who he will be on with. He & Ketch really played up the fact that it was going to be a big deal who his co-host would be. E has been doing commercials on 1530 for a couple of weeks at least, so I knew it was only a matter of time before they fit him into the schedule.

It takes me about 15 minutes to get to work. I kept going back to 1300 to see what was going on, but from 725-740am, I never heard anything except commercials, a few sports updates, and the traffic. Fifteen minutes and nothing but that. Do they talk anymore? Good grief. Mike and Mike will do for me for a while... they have to!

We've all heard different guys broadcast that E. Hogan is coming to 1530, but I checked their website and it says nothing about it. I was hoping to get a little insight as to when he might start broadcasting. BTW, the 1530 website is pretty pointless. Nothing about the changes that have been made in the last few weeks or the ones that are coming up. No current lineup or future lineup. Why would the guys talk about it on air, but not post anything on their website?

The only real plausible name I could think of to pair with E Hogan would be Kevin Dunn. Man, they'd talk a lot of baseball.

Re: the lineup.

Chad said today when I was listening that E Hogan would start "soon" but that they didn't know exactly when. I'd imagine that's why they haven't posted anything about the upcoming lineup on their website.

If Erin is on with anybody other than Rush Limbaugh, it will be better than the debacle over at 1300. Can't wait for the new show to begin, and the new improved signal.

There's just no chemistry between these two. Sometimes that grows over time, but I just don't see it happening here.

Vic Jacobs would be awesome. And I never use that word.

I miss the stadium hat. That guy was wacky, funny and got a lot of sports into his segment. I got a kick out of hearing his voice on the radio when i lived in LA back in the last century. His pet word was "flavor." "Bringing flavor from the Rose Bowl."

I'm in the Arboretum area and can barely get 1530. So good news if they get more power.

I was up early today and listened for 5 min to Bob. He sounds EXACTLY like 1 million other voices on FM drive-to-work radio in metro areas. The guy is nice, but not on 1300.

All I can say is that I will not be forcing myself up in the morning anymore when I need sleep.

That radio station in about one year has totally wrecked both the afternoon and the morning shows, and I have no freaking understanding what in hell got into them.

Nothing against baseball, but now I'm being driven nuts by UT baseball saturating the station. When that's not on, I'll have to hear Astros every evening at 7 pm. It's totally ******. Sorry, I just like talk radio. Not into semi-pro football, or baseball on the radio.

Can't wait for tail gate afternoons to see what happens at Bevo Blvd (home of 1300 at the corner) and Schultz's (home of 1530 on stage). I'm betting E. will be there alongside Lance, Chris Brown and others. Should be packed.

I have heard very little content as well. They even play music. WTF? This is AM radio where I want to hear talk radio. Can't stand that guy Cole's voice. Puts me to sleep.

They are pushing me much closer to going out and spending money on satellite radio....perhaps that is what the real agenda is these days.

What a case study in how not to manage a radio station.

They really should use this in the curriculum at the communications college and the MBA school.

And who is buying all of this advertising time?

They've got to be a little pissed off as well.

I cannot answer that because I don't listen. At least now that the guy with no talent, that Hansen guy, is off the air I am not boycotting any businesses. Though I will never spend a penny in his Jungle Douche coffee places. I have read that a lot of child molesters hang out in that place. I guess it is because of the kids that play there or something.

No Pac, it is a fact. I guess it is fair to include McDonalds and places like Chuck E. Cheese as well. My sister, who has a newborn has researched this type of thing. In fact, a high concentration is on Galveston Island and not because medical doctors in training are guilty. I assume it is for the obvious reasons.

Places like this are maybe easy, according to some things read, because parents are lulled or lazy. They assume that everything is safe since it is a kids area and they are nearby. But as they get into talking, cell phones, browsing online, etc... they get distracted.

There, does that help you and your immature conclusions?

My morning commute is about 25 minutes long. I used to switch between The Zone and KLBJ (I'd change the channel when I couldnt' listen to Sgt. Sam anymore).

Now, I plug my iPhone into my audio input jack and listen to either PRI's Marketplace podcast from the previous evening or NPR's Bryant Park Project podcast from the previous morning.

It's probably better that I listen to something more substantive (plus there are no commercials), but I really miss good sports talk in Austin.
