Texas WBB @ KU (2/4/23)

I’m thinking it’s possible that there are other factors that made her not a fit at Texas. Not just any great athlete is a fit. I bet she was on their radar and I bet they knew a lot about her other than stats.

This certainly could be correct. Jackson's expressions and smack talking throughout the game got my attention. Thankfully, the players on both squads kept their cool.

I took note after Faye went down from the hit to the head. They had a closeup on Jackson. Looked like she knew she was getting away with something and could care less about the player injured. Watch that on the replay and tell me I’m wrong.

You are not wrong. And she talked a lot to our players, don't know what she as saying, but it was probably not complimentary

Harmon had a rough game.

i do not understand the FT shooting.
1-4 seems really low for a guard.
Need for that to be much better, especially when protecting a slim lead in the 4th, like this game.

The person who has the ball in her hands more than anyone else NEEDS to be good from the line. She's stronger this year with the extra bulk but those tight, shortened muscles seem to have affected her. I feel she needs professional stretching and advanced yoga classes to get some of that flexibility and range of motion back.

Harmon’s free throw stroke doesn’t look good. Short and jerky and not really a good shooting motion. Would be interesting to compare to last year’s motion to see if it’s changed. For sure her arms/shoulders are much bulkier. Not sure if it’s natural maturity for her or weightlifting or ? Her quickness has suffered a lot. In first half Saturday she was slow and was schooled by the KS guards. Her level of effort improved in second half and it helped turn the game around. It seems like we’ve seen the last of the Harmon full court pressure of other primary point guard. Also the full court deny pressure led by Harmon. On the turnover analysis…..remember the B12 tournament where she played back to back games with zero turnovers? Probably gone the way of the Do Do bird. She’s extremely valuable still. But her 3 point stroke, her free throw form, and her defensive pressure has regressed. Some of it has to do with lack of true backup point guard and minutes but not all. Schaefer has had to adjust some due to above. In the offseason, he’ll have to project how she will continue to evolve over next two seasons and how that affects the construction of team and his philosophy.

Harmon’s free throw average and 3 pt average are indeed much lower this year. However, I think it is worthwhile to mention she averaged 11.4 ppg last year and averages the exact same 11.4 ppg this year. Her assists are up.

My comments above are what they are. And not to minimize the team efforts….as well as Harmon. They know. A lots of teams would have been beat by KS Saturday. West Virginia and KS could easily have been losses. For sure, I expect a better game wednesday. Home cookin’ sure helps. All the kids are really trying.

Yeah, she is usually nails on that drive and pull up at the elbow jumper. The mid range game is making up for the pullback in 3 pt shots and free throws. Although I have to say it is very frustrating to see the FT percentage drop. That needs repetition in front of some coaches who may be able to analyze if there is a flaw in her stroke.

That free throw motion seems to have a slight hitch in it and doesn't look confident at all, almost as if she is "putting" the ball up to the goal. It's not anything that can't be fixed with LOTS of reps I don't think.

I keep waiting for Vic to tell the media that Rori is making her free throws in practice, but just not in games. He hasn't said that. Makes me wonder if she's struggling just as much in practice.

Harmon has improved this year on silly fouls. Last year She would reach and try for the steal and suddenly had 2 quick fouls. She’s fixed a lot of that. Allows her to play more minutes which Horns need. Without looking at any data, I’m guessing her identical scoring average per game in the two years is slightly misleading. She’s playing more minutes per game cause she’s not in foul trouble. Need to pat her on the back for improving on that.

I submit her issue is more technique than physical. She doesn't have an issue on her elbow jump shots. Roughly the same distance as the FT's.
If you watch her shoot FT's, she takes the ball from the ref and immediately puts it up. I think if she takes the ball, take a couple of dribbles then shoot the FT in rhythm that would help.
Curious to know if she shot FT's the same way in HS.
Jones also shoots FT's without dribbling but her shot has more of a long shooting rhythm.

I've said earlier, too, that Rori needs to do something to break up the FT rhythm. She just seems so nonchalant, "oh here's the ball from the ref, let me just toss it up to the rim in one swift motion." Never seen a player do it more quickly than her.

What I can't get is what has happened to ALL of her percentages in comparison to last season. She is shooting 39% FG, 14% 3FG, and 57% FT versus last season when she was 39%, 31%, and 73%. I recognize the fact that as the primary ball handler she gets in situations where she has to rush occasional shots with the shot clock expiring, but those drops in 3FG and FT percentages are glaring. I can't help but attribute that to the extra bulk and strength which definitely takes some adjusting to.
