Texas WBB @ KU (2/4/23)

Guys, I have a stunning confession to make. I turned off the TV at halftime, just in case the problem with us not being able to win games that we trail at the half was actually me. And what happens? It looks like we somehow pulled this out (I'll have to watch the replay to see how we did it). I truly apologize to everyone on this board for the 6 losses we had this year as I was watching every one of them.

Honest confession. Maybe you should penalize yourself by listening only?
OTOH You are showing your support. And if you watch all games then MAYBE you are actually responsible for the wins.
hmm I think your Win record is more important.

I’ve never done it before, but I quit watching or listening at halftime as well. I have out of town guests anyway so I decided to let it go and hope for the best…and sure enough I just heard the news. Can’t wait to rewatch it tomorrow. That’s a big road win. I can remember praying we didn’t get a 3rd game with them in the tournament last year (especially in KC) and we got lucky to avoid it. Let’s hope no game 3 this season as well. Tough matchup.

Appreciate it and that sounds like good advice Horn6721. Radio really is better than these road announcers anyway. I think I can still watch live telecasts, but not if we're down at the half.

I said one team would win and I was right. Eeek that was close. Way to go Gaston! Thank God we’re back in the Moody for the next two.

We lost internet last Thursday and still don't have it, due to the ice storms in Austin. So, as we were scrambling to figure out how to watch it on my laptop via my cell phone, we only showed up when we were behind 6-8. To be honest, I didn't think we were going to win with the bigs being in foul trouble that early and often.

We had to leave the house and laptop with 2 minutes to go, so our daughter had to keep us apprised of the situation and score the last two minutes. Again, I didn't think Texas with the horrendous free throw shooting was going to keep the lead.

This team does have the toughness that Vic has been begging them to have.

The one thing was that I had to go back and look at how Taiynna Jackson played against us when we trounced them in Austin. It was 19 points last time and 21 points this time. I guess it was the announcers touting how she was unstoppable and not missing any shots that had me thinking she was vastly different since the last time we saw her.

A win is a win. Now, let's bury the Sandwitch.

I thought the game was tomorrow. Damn. I look on here and it is already over. Glad to hear we won. It doesn't sound easy, though. The men's team got a great win today.

It's always great to get a conference road win.

But, why do we struggle so much with Kansas? Baylor, with no player taller than 6'2, beat KU twice this season: 75-62 at Kansas (Jackson with 8 points), and 77-73 at Baylor (Jackson with 12 points).

It's troubling that Vic can't find a defensive scheme to control that aircraft carrier he's always talking about.

So. Complete honesty.

This. Team. Drives. Me. Crazy!

We won. And yes it was a road win. And yes every road win in the Big 12 is a really good win. But this shouldn’t have been so close. We are too good for this. We should beat every team like we beat OU. Solid from start to finish. We are that good.

Just once I would like a team like the current South Carolina team. One where I get to sit and just enjoy every damn game like I enjoyed the win against OU.

But maybe blowouts would get boring after awhile. At least that’s what I’m telling myself anyway.

Great road win even if it was a hail biter. Now please smack the crap out of Tech. At least give us that.

Fasten your seatbelts when we play in Norman

I had a engagement so I couldn’t comment earlier after I watched it while I was basically still at a church function lol( forgive me God). I thought we weren’t getting calls and when we did the refs was inconsistent even with Jackson herself as well. So I think it’s all about who refs each games cause when we are alllowed to be physical we are fifferent. The adversity we faced I’m proud of them. Rori got hobbled so she had to go out and the didn’t break you could almost see them be like we’ve been here b4 also Shaylee didn’t play well who has built this consistency and Faye got a blood nose and every big was in foul trouble and we haven’t won after trailing at the half this season. So yea we faced some things head on. I also could when they came out of halftime they was collectively like “nope not today” and just found away. I believe Sonya played all 40 and we needed all of them she is or has figured out what Vic wants from her. Dee dominated and made it look pretty easy tbh she only missed when she was a little fatigued. I was worried about this game cause they are solid and had lost a couple games close and playing at home so I knew they was coming for blood. Just proud of them

Kansas does a good job of pulling backside help defenders out of the paint because they shoot the ball well from the perimeter. Then they run that pick and roll at the elbow, our post player rotates to help on penetration, then their guard throws the ball up at the rim and the 6'6" catches and lays it in.

My biggest question is where the hell were we when KU plucked Jackson out of Trinity Valley Community College?

You might be right.

Baylor's tallest player is actually 6'1; it just makes no sense that our "huge" front line (of 2-3 players) can't do a better job defending her. She's not a player who ever floats far out from paint I don't think.

Jackson was a player that I mentioned during her final season of JUCO that I was hoping we were recruiting. I believe most recruiting services had Femme rated higher than Jackson.

As the head coach, Elena Lavoto won two national championships at Trinity Valley JC. Although it was 10 years ago, we need to have spies on the ground at Trinity to make sure a player like Jackson is on our radar.

I’m thinking it’s possible that there are other factors that made her not a fit at Texas. Not just any great athlete is a fit. I bet she was on their radar and I bet they knew a lot about her other than stats.

Yep... Jackson is real solid with the bunnies but very seldom ever shoots or attempts to create away from the block.
