Texas WBB @ KU (2/4/23)

This is a bit of a trap game coming up tomorrow and no doubt will be part of Vic's "needing to deal with adversity" montra. We may be a bit jet-lagged with all the travel. This photo from Shaylee yesterday probably says it all:

The official press preview for the game doesn’t provide any insight into the Kansas team. The are sitting in 7th place with 4-5 conference record having lost three of their last 5 including losses to Baylor, ISU and OU. But they beat KState who just beat ISU so who knows what team we are about to meet.

If the Texas team of late shows up, we should come away with a win but expect it to be ugly. Kansas averages 74 points per game. Tayiana Jackson (6’6”) leads Kansas averaging 16 pts and 12.5 rebounds. Zakiya Franklin and Holly Kersgeiter add 14 ppg. But all three only average 20 mins per game. In fact no one averages more than 20 mins suggesting a somewhat deep bench I guess. That could be good or bad depending on who comes into replace those three.

Interesting fact: they all played way over their minutes average in their game against us. We led the entire game with our largest lead being 15.

When we played them in Austin the final score was 72-59 thanks to 26 points from Shaylee. However, Jackson exceeded her average with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Only one other Longhorn was in double digits - Sonya with 13. But we got points from 8 diff players. Rori had 11 assists.

Surely we did not fly back to Austin for one day?...

That's gotta be rough on them. I'm wondering why we didn't just go straight on to Kansas.
I agree. Especially with all of the weather issues, seems like we should have just flown from Morgantown straight to KS yesterday. Surely, they could have done classes online and squeezed in a practice at some middle school gym somewhere and not wasted another day just traveling. But they must have gotten there early enough today to at least get in a shootaround:

Those players do look happy. Hopefully that’s a great sign that all is well to move forward for a great game after the weather and travel complications. :hookem:

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say we win by 30 points give or take 32 points. Six players will score in double figures but they might not all be from the same team. But definitely absolutely one team will win.

I'd like a robust game where Texas comes out and just smacks them in the face during the first 5, 10, 30, 40 minutes of play. Would be exceptionally pleased if the first foul of the game was called on Kansas instead of Hadi Faye.:bevo:

I would be happy with a 2 point win. I think any win on the road in this conference is a good thing. However, I think a win by 30 would be more fun.

The game at tech was a trap game. This one isn't. Though KU is in a down stretch. This is revenge game at home and have had the travel fun. This can still be a dangerous team and we should know what to expect from them.

We should still win. But expect periods of ugly ball. As in pretty much all our games to this point , our defense and rebounding will dictate the outcome.

Ahh, Shaylee getting good at that. Somehow, we're tied at the end of the 1st on another Shaylee runner 3-ball: 15-15
Both teams shooting around 38% overall.
Let's hope Rori's ok.

We are 0-6 this season when trailing at the half.
I think we do look tired.
We're only shooting 33% now, KU up to 54% now.
KU up 34-28 at half.
You're not gonna win many games only scoring 28 pts in a half.
Shaylee has only taken 2 shots.
