Texas vs WVU official game thread

A bye and then Kansas is coming at a perfect time. Hopefully Herman can get us into a good groove to finish up Big XII play.

I have a deep problem with the Eyes of Texas, the disrespect, the band, etc.; that feeling is not gone. However....

We are 5-2. Our presumably reliable very-highly recruited, very experienced RB gives up the ball on first and goal at TCU's 1 yard line in what otherwise should have been a win. Then, we lost one other game in four OTs to OU, a game we actually led in OT with decent chances to win it. Those aren't really "bad losses."

Then, our wins were mainly "disappointing" because we had to come back at the end or overcome penalties, bad special teams, etc. Critics said we should have won more easily. We did win, though, because of some really great deep pass TDs, (yes, I said it), some great special teams plays, (yes, I said it), many, many nice third and 7 type conversions when the game was on the line, some critical defensive sacks, strip sacks, and interceptions, and good run defense.

As of now, we have finally gotten Bijan Robinson into games, and he looks very, very good. Roschon is better than a decent back-up. Jake Smith finally looks like a solid 4-year starter if not maybe better than that. Eagles is pretty decent. Sterns is not the 5* stud we wanted, but lots of guys on defense are better than expected. Even when they get thrashed or faked out over and over, they don't give up or get tired; they still have a chance to make plays at the ends of the games.

Recruits are flaking, but that could turn back around. We already have Whittington on campus, a 5* that hasn't even seen the field for practical purposes, and we have QBs already on campus to replace Ehlinger when the time comes.

Also, despite concerns, it is obvious that Herman has not lost the locker room.

So, the product on the field is really pretty good.

It's my understanding that as long as it's not political, insulting or profane, we have freedom of speech here! :smile1:
I've stated many times that I understand very little about the technical side of football. I never played the game. However, when we commit to stop the run like we have the last two games, don't we also limit ourselves to soft coverage? Honest question.
Thank you again for all you do here, Joe.
Yes and that is the problem. When you blitz one (or two) cover guys get sucked-up in the rush leaving 5 or 6 to cover 4 or 5. Sounds easy, and it can be IF you have true cover guys who can cover an expanded area and/or faster dude.

The best hope is the rush at least hurries the throw or gets the sack. If neither, the cover guys have got to be able to tackle one-on-one in the open field. Unfortunately, Texas has had issues with this part since the 2008 season.

This is why having 1, or better yet 2, really good lockdown corners makes a defense much better.
