What can you say? Texas had every chance to win and didn't. The relievers and a botched safety squeeze and many runners left on base all combined to lose it.

Have to regroup for the conference series this weekend against KSU. :hookem:

Man, was Augie pissed after the game. Said Texas only played one inning all night and then told Craig that if the team wanted to sleep they should do it at home and not on the field. Way was like, "uh, thanks Coach, bye."

well.... that sucked. Augie is right to be pissed. We need to find someone to step up as a reliever.

Just call it a letdown after the big series with WVU over the weekend. Happens. Glad to to see Tres out of his slump a little. The Horns really need his bat.

This is where losing Morgan Cooper to injury has really hurt this team. He would have been either another solid starter or he could be the closer that this team lacks. Been a long time since Texas hasn't had a solid closer. When you play as many close games as the Horns do, it makes a big difference.

I had hoped we had enough arms that it wouldn't matter, but it looks like it does. You need someone with the stuff to get big outs in tough situations, but he needs enough control to not walk people. This was Morgan Cooper, who compared favorably to John Curtis, from last season. Much like Curtis, Cooper will have to come back from Tommy John surgery next year to contribute to the team.

At the present we have a young freshman with great stuff who has yet to gain the command you need as a closer. You just can't come into tight situations and walk people or fall behind till you just have to lay one over to not walk batters.

We have a couple of more veteran pitchers who have the control, but not quite the overpowering stuff to get those key outs. Cooper was the reason that the idea of French as a closer was thought about. Without Morgan to plug one of the starting roles in the rotation, that idea was quickly dispatched.

I thought maybe the hitting would step up and solve a lot of problems, but that hasn't happened on a consistent basis yet. The base running mistakes still just baffle me and have really killed some potentially big innings. It's also hard to see one of your DH's, that's in the lineup a lot now, still looking for his first hit of the year this deep in the season.

We really need a closer with our style of play and since Cooper is not an option, somebody has to step up. Without that key role filled and performing, it will be a hard road to Omaha, unless the starters just carry things without one or the bats really pick up.

Went to the game at The Ballpark. Horns did not play very well and I can understand why Augie was not pleased. But give UTA credit - they played well. At least it wasn't a conference game. Hope the team wakes up before the weekend.

Two blown games in 4 days is hard to sweep under the rug. Walking in the winning run Saturday (when our bats had gone lifeless) was tough to swallow. Bombing a 3 run lead in the 9th to UTA is definitely bush league.

Neither West Va. (9-8) or UTA (10-7) are quality teams we should be surrendering games to in crunch time. Both times pitching fell apart late. That's the concerning part going forward. We shouldn't be losing games to mediocre teams after putting up 6 and 5 runs.

What these type losses do is keep making the loss column go up and up. I can't see the state of Texas hosting anymore than three regionals at most and two of those are probably a given like last year in TCU and Rice.

So if there is one left to host, you have Aggy out there building up an impressive record that even if they do crash some, they are still in good shape to host one. Going to Rice last year was tough enough. I really wouldn't want to go to College Station for a regional, the ticket situation alone would be nuts. After last year, you know the NCAA committee would love to send us there if they could.
