Texas vs. UTA

Pimp Daddy
Top of the evening to you, now put down the green beer and lets talk about baseball.

This Saint Patty's Day finds the Horns in Arlington at Globe Life Park to play UTA. After a tough series against WVU to open Big 12 play Texas goes to the home of the Texas Rangers to play the Mavericks in a rare midweek road game against somebody other than Rice.

There is no video to be had and I don't why Fox Southwest didn't pick this game up instead of televising the Pan Am vs. TCU game tonight. UTA has always had a stream of their home games, but this is not their home field, so no dice.

So the dulcid tones of Craig Way seems to be the only option or the UTA radio broadcast which I think is on Gametracker.

This is the Craig Way call link.

Kacy Clemens will get the start on the mound for Texas. We may be dodging some rain later in the evening as this game was moved up an hour because of that threat. First pitch at 6:05.

Going to see if there are any lineups to be had.

The Texas lineup has been the only one released so far and is:

Johnson-LF
Shaw-RF
Hinojosa-SS
Barrera-C
Marlow-2B
Boswell-3B
Cantu-1B
Macalla-DH
Gurwitz-CF
Clemens-RHP

I hate games with no video, as I can't see to describe the action. So me forgive if not as descriptive as I usually am.

Here's UTA's starting lineup

Freshman right hander Reid Petty, in his second ever start for the Mavs, goes to the hill for UTA.

Johnson leads off for Texas from the right side.
Ben steps in and pop up to second for one down.

Shaw, the right fielder for the Horns, step in from the left side with one away.
He works a full count and he is hit on the right arm to reach the hard way.

Hinojosa bats from the right side with one on and one down.
Shaw goes, but a fly ball to right center brings him back as the second out is recorded.

Barrera bats with two gone and one on from the right side.
He walks to put two on.

Marlow steps in from the left side with two and two aboard and he can give the Horns an early lead with a clutch hit to the outfield.
A ball to Marlow and out comes the pitching coach for a visit.
A foul pop on the left side is gathered in by the third baseman and that retires the side.

A threat by the Horns doesn't come to anything and UTA now comes to bat.

The right hander Kacy Clemens gets the nod for Texas on the hill tonight.

The left fielder for the Mavs is Matt Mclean, from the left side.
A one hopper back to the mound goes 1-3 for one away.

The shortstop Travis Sibley, bats righty with one down.
A ground ball through the hole on the left side is a single to put the first Mav of the game on.

Levi Scott, the first baseman bats righty with one on and one out.
The runner goes and just like when Texas did this a fly ball, this one to right will bring him back on the second out.

Jackson Morris, the DH for UTA, bats with one on and two gone.
The runner goes again and again a fly and this one to right will end the inning.

A hit, but nothing more and after an inning, nothing across so far.

Petty back to the rubber for the Mavs in the second.

Boswell leads off for Texas from the left side.
The Horn third sacker works a full count.
He is issued the leads off walk.

Cantu bats with one on as all the Horn runners have been put on by Petty without a hit.
The righty first baseman tonight looks to bunt him over and he does and the 1-3 sac is good as Boswell moves to second.

The Horn DH is Connor Macalla batting lefty and still looks for his first ever hit as a Horn and one here could give Texas the lead.
Another full count and after a couple of long foul fly balls finally draws the walk to put two on.

Gurwitz, plays center and bats righty in the nine hole with two on and one down.
A wild pitch all the way to the screen and the runners move to second and third.
Real chance now for Zane to put the Horns ahead as even a ground ball should score one.
Yet another full count again and again pitches are fouled off before another wild offering is a walk to load the bases on free passes. Boswell thought about it and stayed put as the pitched bounced back off the bricks behind home plate.

The UTA coach has seen enough walks, though he didn't give up a hit Petty is gone.

Pitching change.

Freshman right hander Daniel James is the new Mav pitcher and he comes in with a full blown jam to deal with.

Johnson brings the top of the Texas order up with the bases loaded and one gone.
A fly ball to center is not deep enough to score Boswell and it's two down.

Shaw up from the left side and he needs a big clutch job to give the Horns the advantage.
He takes a pitch described as low for a called strike three and that retires the side as Shaw is not pleased with the call.

Lots of traffic and UTA wildness, but no Horn safeties results in nothing in the run column.

Bottom of two and still nada.

Clemens back for his second inning of work.

Eric Tate, the Mav third baseman bats righty and will lead off.
He lines a single to left and the lead man reaches.

The Mav catcher Brady Cox bats from the right side with one on.
The count runs full and the runner goes and yet again a fly ball will bring him back as it's caught in center for one down.

The right fielder is Jarame Littel and he bats with two down and one on and he K's swinging to retire the side

Two played and still nothing.

By the way Tate was out on a appeal on the fly ball by Cox. Thanks Craig Way as I had no idea where the third out was in that inning and couldn't tell you good people anything about how it was made. :)

James back on the bump for UTA.

Hinojosa leads off from the right side.
A flair to left drops for the Horns first hit.

Barrera up to no doubt bunt from the right side with one on.
He does and way too hard, but's it's misplayed and the sac is good 1-3. It should have been a double play.

Marlow back up lefty and a long fly ball to right is two gone as Hinojosa tagged and went to third.

Boswell up lefty with one on and two down.
A slow roller to second and the throw just nips Bret to retire the side.

Nothing across again and to the bottom of three still no run to be had.

Clemens is done and lefty Travis Duke is the new Horn pitcher in the UTA fifth.

The lead off hitter McLean bats lefty against him as his first batter to face.
A full count to him and a liner to center is a lead single.

Sibley, who has two hits already bats with one on.
He lays down the bunt and the sac goes 1-3 as the runner moves up to second.

Scott bats righty with one on and one down.
A drive to deep right center and Shaw runs it down and the runner had kept going and is easily doubled off second on the 9-6 double play to end the inning.

Five gone in Arlington and UTA leads 1-0.

James still out there in the sixth for UTA.

Barrera leads off for the Horns from the right side.
He lines a single to left and again a lead runner for Texas.

Marlow bats with one on from the left side.
Marlow lays down a perfect bunt on the right side down the line and he beats it out for an infield hit to put two on.

Boswell bats lefty with two on and looks to bunt them up.
He instead swings away and bloops a ball to left center and the shortstop Sibley goes out and makes an over the shoulder catch for one down on a nice play.

The coach out and he wants a new hurler.

Pitching change.

Jacob Moreland, a right hander is the new pitcher for UTA and described as having a side winding delivery.

Cantu bats with one gone and two on and still trying to break through.
A sharp ground off the first baseman does just that as it goes into right field.
The rbi single scores one and puts runners on the corners.

Game tied 1-1.

Macalla up as the DH bats lefty with two on and one down.
He bunts and the play goes to second and then back to home as Marlow had held at third and then broke on the throw to second and the 2-4-3 double play end the frame.

Yet another base running snafu hurts the Horns.

Texas does tie it up 1-1 to the bottom of six.

Duke back on the hill in the UTA sixth.

Tate takes off and the throw is not in time as he steals second.
The count runs full on Cox and he walks to put two on.

Out comes Skip again and he brought another hook.

Pitching change.

The new pitcher for Texas is another freshman, right hander Jake McKenzie.

He faces the Mav left fielder Jerame Littel, batting righty with two on and one gone.
A full count and he is hit by the pitch to load the bases.

Williams bats with a chance to put UTA right back on top with the bases loaded from the right side.
A long drive to left and Johnson can't make the catch as he was there but it went off his glove.
It goes as a single as the runners thought it would be caught and were holding up, but one run scores.

UTA leads 2-1.

Hollie bats in the nine hole with the bases loaded and one away.
He pops up to short and the infield fly rule is in effect as Hinojosa makes the catch for two outs.

McLean bats at the top to the order lefty with bases loaded and two gone.
A fly ball to center and that and Gurwitz has it to get Texas out of the inning.

Could have been worse, but UTA takes back the lead 2-1 after six.

Moreland remains in the game for UTA on the hill in the Horn seventh.

Gurwitz leads off at the bottom of the order for Texas.
He grounds to short and the shortstop airmails the throw into the photographer's box for an error and it's puts Zane on second.

Johnson up again at the top of the order and Texas has a golden opportunity to tie it back up or more.
He K's swinging and that's exactly what you don't want there as nobody moves and the out is recorded.

One down for Shaw batting lefty and a runner at second.
A fly ball to center moves Gurwitz to third on the tag as the second out is made.
That's where not moving the runner to third with no outs hurts you.

Hinojosa bats with two down and still a chance to tie the game.
The righty hitting shortstop with a ground ball deep in the hole on the left side and the shortstop has it, but C.J. beats the throw by an eyelash to tie the game. The UTA coach is out to question the call to no avail.

Pitching coach out and wants another chunker.

Sorry I have been away from my post... blame swimmin' with bowlegged women and green beer.

Nonetheless - Horns knotted up at 2-2, let's get some focusness and beat the Mavs!
