Texas vs UConn, Sunday, 12/3 (ABC)

From cbssports…

The Huskies were not having a bad shooting night. In fact, their 59.1% field goal percentage marks the highest in a loss in at least the last 25 seasons, according to ESPN Stats & Info.

However, the Huskies had almost as many turnovers as successful field goals Sunday, and taking care of the ball against a smothering Texas defense was a huge issue. The Longhorns were able to get 36 points off UConn's 21 turnovers. Meanwhile, the Huskies only scored eight points off Texas' nine turnovers.

Texas deserves a lot of credit because ball security wasn't a problem for the Huskies up to this point. UConn entered Sunday averaging 12.7 turnovers per game, one of the 30 lowest marks in the country.

Lobo is one of my favorites too! I think she has great insight to the women’s game and doesn’t come off as biased but I’m amazed at the complaints I see about her (especially accusing her of UCONN bias). I guess that’s par for the course in that line of work. But when I saw she was covering the game I looked forward to watching the replay even more.

Stephanie White was also saying she thinks Texas is a Final Four caliber team during the halftime show of Ohio St vs Tennessee. I’m on a couple of WNBA fan boards on Facebook and of course during this time of year most of the discussion is about college ball and hardly any mention of Texas but that changed yesterday. They love the Sea Hag about as much as we do so that’s a bonus lol
I still hold a bit of residual resentment of Lobo for a ‘complimentary’ piece she did on Brooke during their Elite 8 run. Yes - I do hold grudges.

Just randomly looking for Texas-UConn postgame material and found a UConn fan YouTube channel where the host complained about foul calls and missed calls. Was so tempted to comment that the only foul whistled against UConn in the 3rd quarter came with 20 seconds left.

#5 baby. #5 with Amo still recovering and Gaston not back. The sky is the limit with this team. The Booker and Harmon show is only going to get better with an amazing supporting cast.

Lobo has been so far up UConn’s butt for years that it was almost impossible to listen to her at times. She seems to have finally gotten the memo because I was amazed at how even handed she was in this game. She knows the game so well and if she continues with this new balanced approach, my grudge is officially over.

Well, Lobo loves her some Page Beckers. But I have to admit she gave Booker and Harmon their dues as well. She is still a UConn "homer" but not quite as obvious in past years.

The officiating crew let BOTH teams play (except Taylor Jones and Hadi Faye LOL). UConn was not without physical play of their own and nobody got mugged. IMO that's the way games between two top highly skilled teams should be called, and I thought the refs did a good job.

Saw this stat the other day: Through 9 games (360 minutes), Texas has trailed for 70 seconds this season (0.32% of game time thus far).
A few people suggested that our less than stellar schedule would lead to being unprepared to take on UConn.

Now, no doubt others will opine that we will be unprepared to rally in a game in which we trail by a significant margin. It's always something.

She was pretty good, but that dude has one of the most annoying voices ever. Worse than Alex Lobe.
I think Alex Loeb has developed into a really good announcer. He's insightful and knowledgeable and works well with his color person. He and Andrea are an especially enjoyable pair.

I was one of those who was uncertain about how the team would play in its first game against a top 15 team after such a weak schedule. So now I know. And I couldn’t be happier.

What thrilled me in addition to winning.
  • Being part of a large, enthusiastic crowd.
  • The joy the players felt in winning
  • The players having the experience of playing and winning against a renowned program in front of nearly 11,000 people most of whom were rooting for the horns.
  • Seeing Madison show her scoring ability.
  • Watching Rori Harmon’s complete control of the game.
  • Watching the Longhorn guards absolutely outplay the UConn backcourt.
(Ok i couldn’t help but be impressed with Aliyah Edward’s game. It didn’t hurt me too much since the Longhorns were winning the game.)

Edwards was a beast. She often made Taylor look slow and weak, and Taylor usually makes most other post players look like that.
Basketball is all about matchups and the one between Edwards and Jones was not at all favorable for us. You effectively had a true 5 trying to guard a true 4. Amo did a better job even though she's not near 100%. Thankfully UConn didn't match up well with our other four positions.

It’s laughable that UConn fans blamed the refs. If you remove the two intentional fouls at the end of the game, the refs called an even 18 for both teams - 4.5 per quarter is not excessive in the least.

Actually...they only called fouls on Connecticut for three quarters. It's hard to count the one foul they called against them in the last seconds of the third. If everything is "fair", I'm sure that one team doesn't go a full quarter without getting a foul.
