We weren't shooting for the conference championship game this year?
Yes, Moon, every year.... But, this year we still have a bowl game to play in, more practices (12 or 13, I think) and an effort to keep positive/focused on goals for next year. I'm a realist when I look at things, but can be convinced that leaders have the responsibility to maintain an "upbeat" persona, keeping everyone focused on being the best they can be. Thought Vince was excellent at that... "it's game time, fellas, let's win this thing and have fun doing it!" Sam isn't the best qb in college football, but, he's a gamer and a leader. Sort of Tebow-ish. I'm disappointed with this year, would be more disappointed if we'd have been 100% healthy all season and would have finished 7-5. Third winning season in a row will improve the will power of this team next year. Like they're used to winning, not losing. Huge improvement over the prior 3. IMO.....

Here is an unfortunate quote (in my opinion) from Sam after the game (from ESPN.com recap of the game):

"If you had told Texas fans three years ago that we would have seven wins and a headed to a bowl game and had a chance to win eight, I think people would be pretty happy," Ehlinger said. "Overall, we did a great job."

A 20-21 year old young man who has barely begun to develop adult social skills (let alone public speaking skills) has a microphone shoved in his face in the heat of the moment following a victory. Adrenaline and endorphins are still pumping. How many of us can honestly say we would know exactly the right thing to say and not say something we wish we could take back? He has bled burnt orange his entire life. He has worked harder to achieve his goals than most of us can even comprehend. Maybe we should turn down the heat a little.

I get all of that 100%. At the same time, he's the leader of the team and has been in front of those microphones for a few years now. Last year it was, "We're back." Now, it's this. I wonder what his teammates think of it.

I just found it curious. I can't believe he really thinks that the fan base is or should be happy with how things are.
