Texas vs. TCU game thread

Wonder what he would’ve said ‘if’ that turned out the decider in a TCU win.
Hindsight is 20/20. He will learn from it.
Fact is, he made enough right decisions and good play calls to win a tough game in a hostile environment where his last two predecessors were regularly spanked. I’m satisfied with a win.

You know last week Thompson was practically moonshotting his throws. Today though he was throwing darts. I wonder if one of the coaches or maybe Sark himself wanted him to flatten out his throws but I think it makes him worse I would rather see the Texas Tech Thompson throw moonshot throws. I think he's more comfortable with that. the harder you throw the ball the harder it is to catch and I've seen many quarterbacks just plain throw the ball too hard and it goes a lot of times it goes right through the receiver's hands I'd rather see us a softer more catchable throw
I was watching him during pregame warm-ups, he looked a little off. His throws were all over the place, but this was his first road start (TCU hates us more than they like themselves), so it was hostile to say at the very least. Coming away with a W while your QB has an off day is progress. Texas' Last trip to Ft Worth and our QB was off, we lost.

I don't think its a good idea for Bijan to continue to get that many carries. When he gets tired he is more susceptible to injury though i love to see him run. So Keilan needs to get touches, either by run or pass. He is a home run hitter.
Just seems like both Thompson and Sark were off their game today. I would like to see more creativity in play calling. How about on a third and goal fourth and goal jump pass over the LBs to a tight end. Guarantee that works on the play Bijan gets stuffed. Or let roschon throw the ball from the wildcat.
Wiley has good hands he could fake a block and be open in two steps then hit him on the run.
Come on Sark be creative. How about a flea flicker, try that once. Worked in a different game today. I saw a shuttle pass today for a td.
And encourage Thompson to run a little more, but make sure he slides.
When you run these little offbeat trick plays, during the more normal staple of plays they become successful that really discourages the defense and they have to think more which will make them react more slowly
On 3rd and 4th goal, slip the TE(s) out, promise they would be open as long as they weren't being held. The slant to Whittington worked for a TD, more of those quick passes. For the most part, all of those long developing routes won't work, especially when an OL can't sustain blocks because of stunts/blitzes like TCU was doing yesterday. I'm a little disappointed that Wiley isn't being utilized, looks like a mismatch for any defense. I'm thinking that Sark has some things in the next couple of weeks, starting in big D. :hookem::hookem:

A wildcat formation with Bijan, Roschon, Keilan Robinson, and Whittington in the backfield would be lethal. Two of them played QB in high school, so you have passing options.
If given the opportunity, we’ll see that against the land thieves. Dark has been saving that for sure!

He was high on all his down field throws. Worthy could not get high enough on one where he was wide open and whit made a great catch on a high throw.

Jacoby Jones made a bit of noise yesterday. He hasn’t been the sack and constant pressure machine I’d hoped for—yet. But, I’d say he’s played a bit above average thus far. He’s getting some decent pressure on the QB most of the time. He has ability, so maybe he’ll kick it up a notch or two and start eating QBs for breakfast.

The Worthy play you reference, seeing it live from the upper deck, it appeared that Worthy mis-timed his jump or didn't need to at all, but yeah the pass was too high. I'm relieved that Sark and Co didn't force the emphasis of the QB play or lack of, as the center of the offense. Unlike Gary Patterson or Tom Herman, Sark went with what was effective, your 5 star RB. Herman would've given BR maybe 10 touches. Yesterday GP gave his 5 star, 16 or 17 touches, while Sark gave 37 total touches, that was the difference. Also, the 3 turnovers helped = 9 pts, but leaving 4 pts for a net of 5 pts, which was the difference. IMO, the zebras gave the cockroaches, at least 7 points, so glad we got those 3 turnovers.

On that 2pt conversion, we stacked bijan behind three receivers and only 3 defenders were down there but we still (poorly) threw the fade opposite. We have lined up like that in previous games but we always just use it as a misdirection. Throw it to Bijan! And we don't have a fade-worthy receiver or QB at this point. That's maybe going to be complete 20% of the time. Go back shoulder at the goalline or just throw it to Bijan! Great win though, we definitely lose this game under Herman or Strong.

Good KO returns. We won the field position battle—which matters in tight games.

Also, Dicker the Kicker made the FGs he should have made.

Yeah, the goal-line fade is actually a pretty low-percentage play, unless maybe you can get a really good matchup out of it (Belichick would sometimes motion until he had Gronk being covered 1 on 1 by the smallest CB on the other team). Moore is no slouch, but he's not exactly Collin Johnson when it comes to catching jump balls.

Should have put Keilan Robinson in there and run towards the pylon.

I would rather have us throw a slant rout to the lone WR out there rather than a fade.

^^ ^This.

It is clear Casey is struggling with TIME to throw long developing routes and he struggling with OVERTHROWING the receiver. I understand the Horns have to try those a few times in a game. Every now and then Casey will connect one but not often enough.

However, quick developing routes are more in his wheelhouse. Whitt & TE slants across the middle, crossing patterns over the middle, Bijian out of the backfield in the flat, etc. will work most times and may be lethal to ou LB's who are playing marginally well.
