Texas vs. Stanford Game 4

Glad to see we won and got the split. We have a bunch of easier games (Incarnate Word, West Virginia, UT Arlington, Kansas State, Texas State, Nebraska and A&M-Corpus Christi) until the Oklahoma State series in April. Hopefully we can win them all.

The finale of the four game series finds Texas looking to win two straight to split the series like they did in the other four game road series against Rice.

Excellent pitching and defense, as it has so many times for the Horns earned the victory yesterday for the Horns. You hope that maybe the bats can finally break out and have a big day and help out the pitching staff.

Lefty Josh Sawyer will get the start for Texas today on the mound.

Lineups coming up.

Didn't Rice and Stanford split as well?

Wooooohooo - Horns finish the series with a crushing 12-4 win to even the series at 2-2. Stanford has gotten the best of the Horns in recent years, but not this series.

Great PBP by NBHorn7 - thank you.

Texas gets another quality start, this time from Josh Sawyer and he got the win.
The relievers let the Cardinal creep back into the game, but limited the damage for the most part.

The offense this time after scoring early with the help of some serious wildness by the Stanford starting
pitcher Weir also scored late to put the game away.

This series was much like the Rice series in so many ways. Texas struck out way too much and left too many
on base or they could have easily won this series. Then also like the Rice series, they got a great performance from
the ace of the staff, Parker French to get a win and then won the final game of the series to earn a split.

It was good to see Texas batters draw the walks they should have and it created a big first inning. Then after
seeing the same pitchers for Stanford, they began to tee off on them and put runs on the board.

This gives the Horns the momentum going back to Austin that they really needed.

You have one more midweek game this Tuesday and then conference play begins next Friday with West Virginia
coming to Austin.

It will be interesting to see what the starting rotation will be for the Horns after French. You would think that Hollingsworth will be a starter. The real question is who will be the third starter? Will it be Clemens or Sawyer as it
looks like Mayes is at present not in the mix. Who will be the closer or do we have one yet? I think it is safe to say that
the French experiment is over as a possible closer for the present.

It sure is nice to have all these arms to work with to make these decisions and it was even nicer to see 12 runs put
up on the board today.

Texas needed to get back on the right track before conference play and it looks like they did that in these last two game against Stanford as they did against Rice.

Texas still has some questions, but they also have lots of answers too and it will be fun to see how it all plays out
won't it. :hookem2::bevo:

Stanford also ran out of pitching in their 4th game against Rice and gave up 12. We still have issues in a 3 game series against decent pitching. There are too many strikeouts, especially with runners on base.

I believe the team can hit with RISP. They just need to have the will to do it no matter what their BA is. Having the clutch attitude makes the difference between winning and losing. Bear down at all times but especially at the critical times like being at bat with RISP. It isn't new. Sometimes you have to fail a bit to be able to have the point driven home as well.

Augie and co. will teach the team. The freshmen are showing top potential. Time to grow from these strong road trips.

Yup, far too many men in scoring position left on base after an inning in this series.

As Mr. Grady said in the "The Shining", Augie will: "Correct it".

Nice to rally for the split against a good team in their house. Also good to see the offense put up a bunch of runs. Next step - consistency.

HHD :texasflag: :hookem:

Thanks NB. Great, as usual. Impressed with Ben Johnson. Quite a special player...love to have more like him. We left Cal on a positive note. Let's keep it up. Hookm'.

Looked like a beautiful day. Cold and rainy all day in The Woddlands.

Stanford has three pitchers out due to injury. They were all candidates for a starting spot in the weekend rotation. It was evident that they just ran out of pitching. It was good to see the Horns capitalize on it by taking their walks and not swinging at bad pitches.

Incarnate Word will not be a pushover on Tuesday. They were down 10-0 to a good Southeastern Louisiana team in the seventh inning on Sunday and one out away from being run-ruled. They Rallied to win 11-10. Should be a good test going into conference play.

They also lost to UTSA 12-0, who we beat 14-2 and are 7-9 for the season.
So you can look at it from different perspectives.

Hopefully the Horns don't look at them from that perspective.

Hopefully the Horns don't look at it from that perspective. UIW has been looking forward to playing Texas since this game was scheduled, so you know the Cardinals will show up. If Texas doesn't do the same, the Cards could walk out of the Disch with a HUGE win.

Really enjoy the PBP, NB. Best part is when it's our at bat and the box is full of lots of sentences and words and I've got a good idea I'm going to like that particular box.

Lot o' good boxes for this game and a good split to come back Home to Austin.

Hook 'em!
