Texas vs. Stanford Game 3

NBHorn7

Pimp Daddy
A very pivotal game today for Texas after dropping the first two games of the series and now four games in a row.

Your ace Parker French is on the mound today and a win is necessary to get off the snide, prevent a possible sweep, and give you
a shot to split the series like the Horns did at Rice.

Going to get the lineups.

Texas will start these players today:

Johnson-LF
Shaw-RF
Hinojosa-SS
Barrera-C
Marlow-2B
Boswell-3B
Cantu-1B
Stell-CF
Mathis-DH
French-RHP

Game starts at 4:05 CT

The Stanford linup:

Edman-2b
Branton-SS
Winaker-1B
Dunlap_LF
Diekroeger-3B
Locher-Cf
Barr-DH
Brodey-RF
Carter-C
Hanewitch-RHP

Hanewitch, another big right hander starts for Stanford.

Johnson leads off for Texas from the right side.
He grounds to short and the 6-3 play is made with a dig of a low throw at first for one down.

Shaw steps in from the left side and the Horn right fielders pop up foul on the third base side for two away.

Hinojosa up in the righty side of the box with two gone.
A ground ball by the third baseman and down the left field line is a stand up double.

A runner in scoring position and two away for Barrera.
The big right handed power hitter fists a ball to center that drops for an rbi single.

Texas leads 1-0.

Marlow steps in lefty with one on and two away.
The count runs full and works the walk on an outside pitch to put two on.

That gives Boswell a chance with two on and two out, with a runner again in scoring position.
A 1-0 count brings out the pitching coach for a full blown meeting on the mound with the entire infield.
He is back in the first base dugout and play continues.

Boswell bats left and the Horn third sacker and another full count.
The runners take off and a line drive right at the right fielder retires the side on a well struck ball.

Texas strikes first and leads 1-0 as Stanford comes to bat.

Right handed ace Parker French will need his sinker to work today as the wind is blowing out and its a warm day in northern California and ball carried well in batting practice.

The second baseman Tommy Edman leads off for the Cardinal.
The lefty hitters steps in and the bottom half of the first is underway.
The first of maybe many ground balls goes to second for a 4-3 first out.

Bo Branton is up next and the righty hitter plays short.
With one away he walks on four pitches to reach.

Winaker, the first baseman bats lefty with one on and one away.
A ground ball again to second is a 4-6 force as Hinojosa's relay was in the dirt and not scooped by Cantu.
Should have been two there.

So Dunlap, the left fielder bats with one on and two down.
He grounds back to French who knocks it down and completes the 1-3 third out to retire the side.

Three ground ball outs is good sign for French and after one Texas leads 1-0.

Hanewitch to the hill for Stanford in the second.

Cantu, at first today leads off from the right side.
A ground ball gets by both the third baseman and shortstop for a single to left.

Stell, playing in center today after his big homer last night bats righty with one on.
He lays down a 1-4 sac bunt as Cantu goes to second.

Mathis is the Horn DH today from the left side with a runner in scoring position and one down.
He K's swinging on a pitch at his shoe tops for two down.

So Johnson up at the top of the order with two on and two down.
The first pitch hits him on the elbow to put two aboard.

Shaw bats with a chance to play add on with a clutch job here.
He slaps a ball by the third baseman and down the line in left for a two rbi double.
That is what Texas needs to win these kind of games.

Texas leads 3-0.

Hinojosa up with two down to hopefully keep adding on and he had a double and scored the first Horn run in the first.
He is hit by an inside pitch to put two on.

Barrera up with two down and can add to his rbi total after he singled home a run in the first.
He flies out to right center and that retires the side.

The big two out double by Shaw adds two more and Texas leads 3-0 to the bottom of two.

French out for his second inning of work now enjoys a 3-0 lead.

Mikey Diekroeger leads off from the left side.
The third baseman walks to put a runner on.

The center fielder is John Locker, batting righty with one on.
He K's on an outside fast ball for the first out and strike out by French.

Chris Barr is the DH again today from the right side.
He flairs one to left and Hinojosa takes it in over the shoulder for two away.

Quinn Brodey, the right fielder singles on a line to right to put two on.

Carter, the catcher bats left handed with two on and two out.
He cues a ball to third on the and the long throw is in time to end the inning.

A threat, but nothing more and after two gone Texas leads 3-0.

Brett Hanewitch continues on having given up runs in the first and second.

Marlow up again leads off for the Horns.
A full count and a ground ball to short is one down.

Boswell up with one away.
He whiffs on a slow change for two gone.

Cantu bats with two outs.
A ground ball to third is a 5-3 out to end the frame.

Texas goes in order for the first time, but leads 3-0 to the bottom of three.

French out again in the third for Texas.

Leading off for Stanford is the top of the order in Edman.
The lefty hitter is jammed and lifts a soft pop to Hinojosa for one down.

Branton bats with one gone.
The righty hitter walks on an outside pitch as French has issued a walk in every inning.

Winaker up once more from the left side with one on and one out.
An errant throw by Cantu on a pick off attempt and the runner trying to all away to third is gunned down
by Cantu who has a cannon arm. It's an error and a 1-3-5 put out for two away. Helps having a catcher with a big
arm at first.

Winaker grounds out to short to retire the side.

Three played at the Sunken Diamond and Texas leads 3-0.

Hanewitch again pitches in the fourth.

Stell leads off for Texas batting right handed.
A high fly to center is one gone.

Patrick Mathis, the freshman DH bats lefty with one out.
He struck out his first trip and is hitless on the season.
He K's again looking this time on a change for two away.

Johnson brings the top of the order again.
Two outs and the bases clear for Ben and hes K's swing at a change that gets away and the catcher's throw just
gets him at first to complete the 2-3 put out to end the frame.

Bottom of the fourth comes and Texas ahead 3-0.

French out for the fourth for the Horns.

Dunlap leads off for the Cardinal.
The righty hitter slaps a liner to right center and Stell on the run and dives makes another great play in the outfield
for the Horns for one away.

Diekroeger bats lefty with one down thanks to the great play by Stell.

Texas is going to win the basketball game by the way leading by 13 points with less than a minute to play and they
do win 62-49 over KSU to keep their NCAA hopes alive on Senior Day in Austin.

Back to baseball Diekroeger grounds out to second for two away.

Locher up with two down.
He grounds a single through the hole on the left side.

Austin Barr, the DH bats with two down and one on.
A sharp grounder ticketed for left field was knocked down and the 5-3 play is completed on a strong throw to end the
inning.

The Horns flash some leather and keep the lead at 3-0 after four.

Hanewitch still works for the Cardinal in the fifth.

Shaw of the big two out, two rbi double leads off for the Horns.
The lefty hitting right fielder K's swinging as several Horns have on the big change for one down.

Hinojosa bats with one down.
He grounds out 4-3 for two away.

Barrera up with two gone.
He walks on a low full count pitch to reach.

Marlow bats lefty with two down and one on.
He grounds a ball behind Barrera and into right for a single.

Boswell up with two on and two outs.
This is where Texas needs to really break out and plate another run or two and have an easy game for a change with
your ace pitching well.
A ground up the middle is taken by the second baseman and the 4-6 force ends the Texas fifth.

Halfway through the third game of the series and Texas leads 3-0.

French is on in the fifth looking to be on record for a win and hopefully end the Horn's four game losing streak.

Brodey leads off for Stanford batting lefty.
He waves through a fast ball for a K and one out.

Carter bats in the nine hole with one gone.
The lefty hitting catcher rolls one down to Cantu at first for a 3U second out.

Edman back to the top of the Stanford order bats lefty with two away.
Yet another ground ball to second is a 4-3 to end the inning.

French with the good sinker does go five and is eligible for the win if the Horns can hold the 3-0 lead.

Hanewitch still works for Stanford as the sixth starts.

Cantu leads off for the Horns.
He plays first today and had a nice play on the errant pick off as he rifled a throw to third to get the advancing runner.
He walks and it's a lead runner.

Stell up and looks to bunt most likely as he did in the same situation earlier in the game

The pitching coach is out and now returns.
Stell squares and as before lays down a successful 1-3 sac that as before moves Stell to second with one out.

Mathis is back up and looks to break out and get his first hit as a Horn having gone 0-12 on the season.
An rbi as his first hit would be welcome for him and the Horns and all of us as well.
Instead he K's once more for a hat trick as he swings and misses another pitch low or two gone.

Up to Johnson to plate another run for Texas with two gone and still Stell at second.
A fairly deep fly ball to left center if run down by the center fielder to retire the side.

Like last night Texas is stuck on three runs, but French has kept it a 3-0 lead so far to the bottom of six.

French looks to keep his sinker going well in the Stanford sixth.

Branton leads off from the right side for the Cardinal.
He lines a single to right to reach for the third time in addition to his.

Winaker also lines one to right for another single and it puts runners on the corners.

Dunlap up and French looks for the good sinker to get a dp and lessen the damage.
He lines to second and it's almost a double play as the throw to first was just late.

Diekroeger bats with one down and two on and the double play ball could get you out of the inning.
A fly ball in the right field corner and it one hops the wall and it's a rbi double.

Texas leads 3-1.

The tying runs in scoring position now and out comes Skip as Stanford once again tries to erase a 3-0 Texas lead for
the second time in two days.

Locher bats from the right side with two on and one down.
A big hooking slider is swung on and missed for a big second out.

So the DH and a dangerous hitter in righty Barr stands between French getting out of the inning.
He walks on four pitches as French may have pitched around him.

It loads the bases for lefty hitter Brodey and big situation here.
He ground the first pitch to Marlow and the 4-3 gets French out the jam.

Stanford gets on the board, but it could have been much worse.
Texas leads 3-1 after six.

I am not able to watch the video link right now, is French showing signs of getting tired?

Horns could use some more runs...

I wouldn't have thought Hanewitch would still be around in the seventh, but he is. It's what the Stanford pitchers have
done. They get in trouble and get out of it and keep pitching.

Shaw leads off for Texas
He takes a fast ball on the outside half for a K and one down.

Hinojosa up with one away.
A ground ball to third and the 5-3 is two down.

Barrera bats with two gone.
The pitching coach is out and Hanewitch is well over 100 pitches and he is done.

Pitching change.

His sinker is still working but they are hitting it harder and some are going through and yes he is tiring some.

The new Stanford pitcher right hander Gabe Kramer.

He faces Barrera with two outs and nobody on.
A high drive to right and the right fielder drops it as he slams into the wall.
It's a double.

It gives Marlow a chance to get that run back with a man in scoring position.
Again this is where Texas needs to come through and make life easier for them
You have a veteran hitter here.
But it doesn't happen as another pitch out of the zone is hacked on and missed to end the inning.

They stretch in Palo Alto and Texas clings to a 3-1 lead.

French out in a big inning for him and the Horns. This is probably his last if he can get through it and it gives
pitchers like Mayes and Duke a chance to close it out.

The nine hole hitter Carter leads off and he grounds the first pitch to third for a 5-3 first out.

The top of the order up now as Edman bats from the left side with one gone.
This time a ground goes to Marlow for a 4-3 second out.

Branton up with two down from the right side.
A ground ball down the line in left goes for a double.

Winaker up with two down and on man at second
Another key batter French.
He walks and the tying runs are on.

French is starting to labor now, but stays in.

Dunlap up with the tying runs on and two down.
Here comes Skip after another ball is delivered.
He leaves French in and leaves.

Dunlap back in and every batter now is the biggest of the game for Parker.
A big hook and it's swung on and missed and French guts it out and gets out of the inning.

Great job of hanging in there by Parker and that should end his day you would think as Texas leads
3-1 after seven.

Good job by Parker to take us through 7. Time to bring in some relief guys throwing some heat !!

Cramer back out for the Cardinal in the eighth.

Boswell leads off for the Horns.
He lifts a fly ball to center for one down.

Cantu bats right handed with one away.
Another lazy fly ball to center for two down.

Stell up with two gone.
He is hit by the pitch, but the ump says he put his arm out and that was the case.
So it's just a ball.
He lines a screamer right at the second baseman and Texas goes in order.

The bats have gone silent again like last night. It's seems it's up to the pitching to hang on as it
has so many times.

Bottom of eight and Texas leads 3-1.

As expected, French day is done and the new pitcher is lefty Kirby Bellow.

Diekroeger leads off for the Cardinal.
The left handed hitter sends a slow roller to Marlow and his off balance throw goes into the first base dugout.
It's a hit and an error that puts a lead runner on second.

Locher up with one on.
The count goes full and a ground ball to third and he holds the runner and makes the 5-3 put out.

One away for the hard hitting DH Barr from the right side with one on.
He walks to put the tying runs on.

Brodey up from the left side with two on and one away.
A liner to left is right at Johnson for two down.

Big situation again and a pinch hitter for Carter is Jack Klein from the right side.
He singled last night as a pinch hitter.
A ground ball to third and Boswell takes it to the bag for the 5U and Texas escapes unscathed again.

Eight innings gone and Texas leads still 3-1.

Klein stays in the game to play center field.

Cramer is still pitching and his new catcher is Dunlap who comes in from left field.

Leading off for Texas is Mathis still looking for his first hit as a Horn and has struck in all three of his at
bats today.
The count runs full and he grounds to first for a 3U and one down.

Johnson up at the top of the order again with one out.
He K's swinging at a fast ball over his head for two away.

Shaw up with two gone and his two rbi double with two outs remains the difference in the game so far.
Another full count and another swing and miss for a K to retire the side in order.

So Texas never got over the three run barrier and it's up to the pitching to close it out and get a much
needed victory.

Bottom of the ninth and Texas leads still 3-1.

Bellow starts out the ninth and tries to close it out.

Edman, the top of the order is up for Stanford from the right side.
The count runs full and this is a big pitch.
A ground ball to third and the 5-3 play is a big first out.

Branton has been on all four times today on two hits and two walks.
The right handed batter works another full count and another big pitch is his third walk of the game.

One on and one down for Winaker and he becomes the tying run.
The left handed batter singles through the hole on the right side to put the tying runs on.

Two on and one down for Dunlap batting right handed.
A chopper to Marlow and the 4-6-3 double play is made on a good turn by all involved and Texas wins!

Texas takes this third game of the series 3-1 and breaks it's four game losing streak and the eight game losing streak
to Stanford in Palo Alto.

Let's hear the post game and be back to sum it up a bit later.

Texas gets a win it really needed on a strong start by Parker French and though it wasn't easy, the relief pitching of
Kirby Bellow.

For the second game the offense put up three early runs and then went dormant for the rest of the game. The big
two out double that drove in two runs by Shaw held up and Texas finally comes out on top against the Cardinal in
Palo Alto.

Texas, much like the Rice series, now looks to split the road series and come back to Austin with some momentum
as conference play is not that far away. :hookem2::bevo:

Oh, and don't forget to set your clocks ahead tonight so you can be back on time for the game tomorrow.
