The battle for first place at this point in time in the season begins tonight.

Texas right hander Parker French at 4-2 and 1.93 era is in his Friday night start vs. sophmore right hander Corey Copping with a 2-0 record and 3.06 era.

The game is televised on Fox College Sports Central which I know Direct TV has.

That's bad news for two reasons for some of us. Dish doesn't have that channel and also there is no webcast link to find because there will be no webcast.

Texas needs the bats to come back to life in this series as this has always been a park for offense.

The 2010 staff shut them down with two shutouts in Norman, but that is not usually the case. This staff has that kind of cabability, but is would much easier with some actives bats.

Oh well I thought Direct carried Fox College Sports.

Maybe this channel is different from that one.

they do sometimes. it's a weird deal -- sometimes showing up on channel 617 or 623 or 626. but it's not listed for any of those tonight.

Marlow leads of against Corey Copping the right hander.

Marlow leads things with a swinging K for one away.

Johnson bats second from the right side.
He walks for the first Texas base runner of the contest.

That brings Payton up with a man aboard and one down.
He looks to extend his now 73 game consecutive on base streak.

Johnson takes off and makes it just ahead of a good throw.

Payton back in with a chance to drive home a lead run.
He does drive him home as it gets by the second baseman and into the outfield.

It has been ruled an error so it doesn't extend Payton's streak, but it gives Texas a 1-0 lead.

Barrera bats with Payton at first.
He grounds to short in the hole for a 6-4 force of Payton for two away.

Shaw bats left with Barrera on first and two down.
Shaw bloops one to right for a single that puts runners on the corners.

Hinojosa tries to put a crooked number on the board for the Horns.
He walks on four pitches to load the bases.

Carter the DH bats in an early big situation for Texas.
He could get Texas a nice early lead with a safety.
A 2-0 count brings a visit by the pitching coach.

Ball eight brings in another run to make it 2-0 Texas.

Clemens comes up with the bases still loaded.
A ground ball by the third baseman down the line is a double that scores two more.

Texas up 4-0 as Gurwitz bats with still runners at secnod and third and two down.

One more hit here would really give French some working room, which in reality he already has.

He lines one fair down the right field line and both runs score on another double.

It's 6-0 Texas now and that's it for Copping.

Marlow, back up as Texas has batted around in the first.

Kendal Ladd is the new pitcher and he flies out to left to end the inning.

All the runs are unearned due to the error call, but they still count.

Texas up 6-0 as OU comes to bat.

Keith Moreland said that error should have been a hit by Payton. He disagreed with the ruling.
Great start, but it is early. French has not been great starting out early, but seems to settle down afterwards.

French on the mound enjoys what used to a series worth of runs in the past leading 6-0.

He faces the OU lead off man Craig Aiken, the centerfielder.
He sqibbs one back to French on the third base side and he nips him at first for one away.

Hunter Haley, the left fielder lines one to left for two away.

Sheldon Neuse plays third base and bats third.
The count runs full and then a fly ball to center sets down OU in order.

That's what you want after you score big, a shutdown inning by your starter.

After one played Texas leads 6-0.

Johnson leads off the Texas second against the reliever Kindle Ladd.

He is hit on the elbow and the HBP puts him at first.

Payton up again after his ground ball ruled an error, opened the flood gates for Texas in the first.

Carter bats and grounds to third and it's a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning.

This brings the bottom of the third with Texas with still a 6-0 lead.

He walks on four pitches for a lead runner for OU.

Hector Lorenzana plays second for the Sooners and bats righty with one on and no outs.

A wild pitch moves the runner to second.

A high pop is fielded by Marlow for one away.

Joshua Ake, bats right and plays short for the Sooners with a man at second and one down.

A fister toward short is one hopped by Hinojosa, but there is no play and it's an infield hit to put runners on second and first.

Aiken, the top of the OU order is back up with two on and one down.
He singles to right and Shaw drops the pick up and the run scores to make it 6-1 on the error by Shaw as it allowed the run to score.

Haley is up now from the left side with runners on the corners and one down.
He lines one off Hinojosa's glove and the potential double play is an error for another OU run to make it 6-2.

Neuse bats now and still two on and one down.
He doubles one off the wall to make it 6-3 and runners now at second and third.

This brings Skip out to the hill as OU is right back in this game as I mentioned before the game this is a hitter's park with usually hitter's conditions.

Hermelyn bats and French needs an out.
A pop up to Marlow is that big out needed for two down.

Buentello bats left handed as this is another big out to get to still have a workable lead.
He singles up the middle to score two and throw from Barrera back to first is wild and sends the batter to second.

It's 6-5 Texas now with the tying run at second.

Mac James bats now trying to tie the game.

The OU head coach is now ejected from the game for barking about a called strike.

A drive down the line is fair and now OU has a six run inning just as Texas did to tie the game 6-6.

The double puts the lead run at second for Alspaugh who pops to Marlow to finally end the frame.

Did I say this was a htting park? After three we are now tied 6-6.

Ladd faces Clemens batting lefty as the fourth starts for Texas.

He walks to lead off as Texas tries to rebound from the five OU hits and three Texas errors that tied the game.

French comes out for the fourth to face Lorenzana.

He grounds to short and the 6-3 put out is recorded.

One away as Ake bats with the bases empty.
Another ground ball to short is a ditto second out.

Aiken, the top of the OU order is up once more with two down.
This time a grounder to second retires OU in order.

It's the way of this game as a six runn inning is followed by three up and three down.

Four in the books tied at 6-6.

Payton leads off the Texas fifth against Ladd.
He walks to reach and extend his on base streak to 74 games.

Barrera up and he bunts to move Payton to second with one down.

Shaw bats with Payton leading from second with one down.
He bounces back to Ladd for two away as Payton holds.

Hinojosa is up and needs a hit to give the Horns back the lead.
He grounds to third and the 5-3 out retires the side.

Halfway through this game that has seen two 6 run innings and that's why we are tied 6-6.

Haley leads off the OU fifth against French still in there for Texas.

He grounds a single into right field for a lead off hit.

Neuse bats now and he chops one fair over Gurwitz's head and the ball gets away from Johnson in left and he reaches third as the run scores to give OU the 7-6 lead.

That's the fourth error for Texas on the game.

A ground ball to second is out two.

James the OU catcher bats with two down and none aboard.
He pops to shallow right to end the inning.

More errors and hits score two more for OU.
After five innings it's now OU leading 8-6.

Ladd, who has shut down Texas offensively since entering the game faces Carter leading off the sixth.

A ground ball to second is a quick out one.

Clemens bats now and his jersey was left at the hotel and is wearing #13 in this game instead of his usual #42.
That seems apropiate for what has been going on in this game lately.

He flies out foul down the left field line for two away.

Gurwitz then pops out to the first baseman to retire the side in order.

Seems like a long time ago that Texas had a 6-0 lead as they are stagnant now on offense.

Bottom of the sixth is here with OU leading 8-6.

French is still pitching in the sixth and faces Alspaugh leading off for OU.

He grounds to short for one away.

Lorenzana, who is hitless in the game somehow bats and taps back to French to remain that way for two away.

Ake bats with two down and he walks on four pitches.

Two down with one on and Skip comes out and he brings a hook for French.

Left hander Travis Duke gets the call to face Aiken, the OU lead off hitter, who bats left handed with two down and a runner on first.

A ground ball goes off Duke's foot and straight up and when it comes down there is no play and it's an infield hit to put two on.

The training staff comes out to look at Duke and after a couple of warm up pitches he is ready to go again.

Haley with a couple of hits bats again with two on at first and second and two down.

He bats lefty against lefty Duke.
He lines one that Clemens stabs with a leap to retire the side.

Six inning gone by and OU leads 8-6.

Marlow at the top of the line-up leads off the Texas seventh without a hit and having made two of the three outs in the first inning.

He faces the so far unhittable Ladd who came in for Copping in the first.

So naturally he lines one to left down the line for a lead off double in this weird game with a third of it still to play.

Johnson bats now and tries to cut the OU lead at least in half.
He lines one off the third base bag and on down the left field line and that scores Marlow to make it 8-7.

Johnson stands at second with no outs and is the tying run and that is all for Ladd.

He had a good game, but has reached his limit it seems.

Jacob Evans a lefty comes in to face Payton with Johnson at second and no outs.

Mark tries to tie the game as he steps in from the left handed batter's box.
A fly ball to cente is deep enough to allow Johnson to tag and move to third with one down.

Barrera bats now and out comes Mike Anderson acting as the head coach after Hughes ejection. The former Nebraska head coach makes another call to the pen for a right hander.

The new pitcher for OU is right hander Drew Krittenbrink and he faces Barrera with Johnson at third and one down.

Barrera needs some contact to tie the game as OU plays the infield back.

He chops one on the hard Sooner dirt that goes over the third baseman's head for a hit that ties the game at 8-8.

Shaw bats now with now the lead run at first in Barrera and one down.

He lines one to center and it falls for another single to put two on at first and second and one down.

Hinojosa up flies out to right on the first pitch for two away.

It's up to Carter if Texas is to take the lead.
The count runs full to start the runners on the pitch.
He walks to load the bases with two away.

So Clemens bats lefty and it's his chance now to give Texas back the lead.
He K's swinging to leave the bases full of Horns.

Stretch time in Norman and it's wild and wooly as exptected the two spot for Texas matches the same that OU had to tie the game 8-8.

Morgan Cooper the lanky right hander is the new pitcher for Texas in the OU seventh.

He faces Neuse leading off for OU in their half of the frame.
He flairs one to right that Shaw comes in on and makes the catch for one away.

Hermelyn bats now for the Sooners.
He K's looking for two away as Hermelyn leaves the seen not pleased with the call.

Buentello lines the first pitch right to Shaw in right to retire the side in order.

Cooper does the job and after seven innings done we are tied at 8-8.
