Texas vs OU, game 1

Can't buy a basket.

what is it about OU's gym that we have so much trouble making shots? It doesn't look good, down 15 with 8 to go.

Nothing wrong w/ OUs gym. We lack OFFENSE!! We're missing wide open shots and they're making shots among the trees, off balance 3's. AARRGHH! #frustratedhornfan

I understand that it is all supposed to begin and end with us as coaches, but there's no gameplan or schematic that a coach can draw up to win a game when your top two scorers pull a NO SHOW. They aren't kids, they are young women so some responsibility has to fall on them to step it up.

too many FT misses and too many missed FGs are going to be hard to overcome. Griffin for OU had a nice game blocking Horn shots.

OU 73 Texas 67
too many missed shots and FTs to overcome.
Next up is Missouri Wednesday in Austin.

Two observations: 1) 61% from FT line is not going allow the team to win many games; 2) How is it that not one but THREE horns had a dismal shooting day? We still have trouble finding the open player on offense.

Query of the day: Why is Ronisha Major not even sniffing the floor?

People who dont know the game will always have misguided beliefs on "how the game is supposed to be played. or how someone is supposed to recruit" The fact of the matter is, YOU dont know what you're talking about. You can throw out whatever stats you want to make GG look bad and I could do the same to make her look good. Point blank, the team missed 12 ft's and lost by 6. Unless GG was in a uniform and missed all 12 by herself, then you cant put this loss on her. Furthermore, when you have 3 starters going 7-39 (17%) you wont win any games in this league. As a coach, all we can do is make sure we put players in a good postion to score and thats what shes doing. She cant put it in the basket for them too. Im purposely saying "YOU" as to not target or single anyone out. But if the shoe fits, then so be it. The better team doesnt always win the game, and thats a lesson I learned early on in this career, you just have to pick yourself up and keep moving forward. On a positve note, Nneka looked really good today after that initial 5 minutes. She is getting better every game. And as usual Cokie changed the game when she was in and I cant wait to see what we look like when we are 100% healthy. I've never seen a program that has been hit so hard by the injury bug in recent years, but i guess that GG's fault too hahaha

I am not going to be "intimidated" by your tone of voice or your credentials but one thing I know is a winner from a loser and the coach you continue to defend and provide excuses for is not doing her job. Texas at 2-4 in her 5th year is plain SAD and insulting for Texas.

But even when given the opportunity, you never seem to provide solutions. You seem to be very good (in your opinion) of pointing out the problem, but not offering up any solutions. The other posters and myself included have not always said the most postive things about the team however we offer our thoughts on how to fix them. So again I pose the same question, if GG is the source of all the problems and you're calling for her head, then whom do you get to replace her? Mulkey, Coale, Geno, Blair etc are all off the table. And CP made it crystal clear that they would not hire someone without multple FF appearances and I wounldnt anticipate that changing. So who do you get? Maybe if you start offering solutions, your opinions may be seen more valid than inflamatory in the future.

Pretty sure Tiff didn't make the trip today. Still not sure about Ronisha or Kayla's status.

It's pretty hard to determine anything with the team right now. What started out as an 8 guard deep, 6 post deep team has been hampered with injuries. And, yeah, people say that shouldn't be an excuse, but what can you do about that?? Yes, these players were recruited. Yes, they were expected to produce. Can't produce on the bench with injuries. That's NO ONE'S fault. It isn't the team's fault, it isn't the coach's fault.

Cokie was clearly bothered with the leg injury at the free throw line. Her misses all hit the front of the rim. That's legs.

Floating the injury excuse out there is ridiculous and tiresome at this point. Do we have enough scholarship players to field a team and have a reserve guard or post to spell players for foul trouble or if the tempo is fast? Yes. So shut the hell up with this excuse. Rick Barnes won the Big 12 his first year with 6 scholarship players. Jerritt Elliott took a team to the final four last year with virtually no healthy reserves. Most coaches settle on a lineup rotation of 6-8 players anyways, sometimes injuries make that decision for you.

I will stick by my bet and say nothing about our coach other than factually she has a 7 year contract and will be here for at least two more years. I will rub it into the people on this board that thought we'd be so much better this year most of whom were chalking up two victories against OU and preaching how terrible they were. We are not a fundamentally good basketball team that is why we don't win more games. This team needs a wake up call as I truly don't believe it's all coaching, the effort is not there either. Rather than skating into the NCAAs sometimes a team needs a jolt to realize you have to start earning things.
