Texas Vs. Louisiana Tech Game Thread

It’s amazing how often we see defensive backs in D-1 who don’t know how to use the sideline and back of the endzone.

That is the worst roughing the passer call I have ever seen. That is no hyperbole.

Now I'm pissed and I want Texas to score again.
I first saw the replay looking for the PF and said, nope must be another penalty. Course we can get a PF laying on the ground. Meanwhile they have 400 yds and 25 1st downs. D's made a few plays but ultimately have played pretty crappy. That's not good enough to beat LSU, OU, OSU, and maybe Baylor. Better get our **** together.

Those little short passes have hurt our D for sure. But, La Tech does have an experienced 4th year QB who passed Terry Bradshaw for most 300 yard games.

nice finish. Glad to see the reserves punch in the last TD. 1-0 to start the season. Lots of work to be done before next Saturday.

Havoc,

Good to meet you. I enjoyed talking with you. Took a while to find out that was you because everyone dressed just like me, go figure! Fun season opener. We’ll see how it goes next week. Different level of challenge for sure.

My quick assessment is that it was a very good performance for a first game, and against a reasonable opponent. The fact that we appeared to come out of the game unscathed is a big deal.

Sam played well and was in control, but I thought that a couple of his throws were a bit risky, particularly the TD pass to CJ. It wasn’t necessary to squeeze that ball in there. He also missed a couple of wide open throws. One in particular, to Duvernay, was disappointing.

I thought that Eagles was the unanticipated star of the game, although many showed very well including Ingram, who looks stronger/quicker/smarter. But Eagles just seemed to get separation whenever he was on the field.

Roschon Johnson didn’t disappoint, nor did Jake Smith, a very good route runner. I was
also very pleased to see Casey Thomson’s running ability. He’s going to be a very capable backup.

There were many good performances on D, highlighted by Brandon Jones, the stopper. But again there were plenty stars including Ossai, Foster and others. I was somewhat disappointed in the corners. From what I saw, no one stood out and there were plenty of missed tackled. The sideline backfield pass seemed to work against us over and over.

All in all though it was a very good night. I think we will be ready for LSU.

Sucks that are RB’s are fragile. This team can win them all if they want it. No one will run on us. Coaches have to be very pleased. I’m expecting a convincing win over LSU.

I will never understand why, on third and long, we give the receivers a ten yard cushion.
They just throw a quick slant underneath and run for a first down.
Why not play bump and run and knock them off their route?
