Texas Vs K State Game Thread

Morris is an offensive guy, not defense. Orlando went 4 down a lot and stunted some as well as more sensible blitzes vs KSU. He also brought corners up to play WRs closer at times....If he does that against ISU, we have a chance. If he goes back to the crap he did vs TCU and OU we will lose to ISU for sure.

No. According to the Monday press conference TH said they DID NOT change schemes. They did press cover more which I agree with. The reason they played off so much against TCU and KU was they had a walk on at S and the rest of the time 3rd string freshman. Against, KSU they got Sterns and Foster back. So, from 2nd Qtr on they started pressing more unless it was 3rd and long. The pressing probably forced the QB to hold the ball 1 more second which allowed the blitz to get home. Experience at S helped our defense allow 3 points in 3 Qtrs from 2 through 4. TH said this and I played CB and I watch the secondary play, so I believe this is the difference. Coburn said this as well in the post game presser. Again, you keep taunting scheme, that is a straw man argument. It’s weak!

AC .... having 4 defensive linemen on the LOS ... and holding LBs/Safeties in coverage rather than blitzing them from 12-15 yards off the LOS ... is a scheme change.

IDK why Orlando won't admit that having the 4th DL on the LOS was a scheme change. We occasionally did that during the year, but not NEARLY as much as we did against KSU. I understand the difference in experience, but superman being on a blitz from 15 yards back, by definition cannot be in coverage.

that's a scheme change. ... might even say ... restoration.

Yea he may have called 4 DL a little more last Saturday but overall he called a different defense because he could trust his secondary. And I get frustrated at Majestic constantly screaming “ burn the witch” and finding a witch anywhere he can.

Hope all is well with you Shark. Anna’s back from boot camp now. Good to have her home.

I understand ...

but there's the failure which motivates the frustration in the fandome in the first place. So the reaction may be excessive, but it's not unwarranted. The stats and the record provide for that.

Glad to hear about Anna!

this is just a goofy game ... and as evidenced by my being here with you marvelous Orange Bloods ... I'm as guilty of raising it to more than it should be too.

What Anna is pursuing is something much MORE than that. When she's deployed with her outfit and if it has insufficient force protection ... that's a "scheme" problem.

One team? sure ... but not without constructive criticism ... and competition. The goal remains and the dedication to that goal extends as far as everyone's doing their best. If their best isn't good enough, we need to find someone who's best IS sufficient.

There's a right way to address it ... and a lot of wrong ways ... but using loyalty as an excuse to for sullied results costs everyone; and some of those costs are more than should be willing to accept. (we saw this in the "scheme" of executing the Vietnam War ... losing men AFTER an objective was attained because of weak politicians)

Loyalty was the crutch which doomed Mack Brown. It's a major asset, until it's a liability.

"What Is The Definition Of Scheme In Football? 1. This is a term used in football to describe the strategy developed by a team’s coaching staff and executed by the players on the field. The term may refer to an overall offensive or defensive formation (such as a 4-3 defense) or part of a particular play"
Orlando and Herman can call it whatever they want....and they will. Naturally having a few starters back helped matters, but using a four front and tighter allignment with corners made a huge difference as well. Having stunts and blitzes that give you a chance to pressure the QB instead of bringing them from 12 yards off the ball was huge too. They CHANGED their scheme. and it helped them win !!!!!!!

Well your Head Coach disagrees. They used a 3-3-5 and a 4-2-5. Before and during KSU Game. I believe the biggest difference was tight CB coverage. It all started with press coverage which started with trusting the Safeties. Sterns and Foster.

It's a weird semantics case. We definitely changed tactics. Whether that counts as "scheme" or "not scheme" seems largely irrelevant. We covered tighter, and tried some new blitzes that fooled them. That's a meaningful coaching change whether it was a scheme change or whether it was improving the coaching calls made within the same scheme.

I think it may be due to being too close to the forest. @Statalyzer has a good point.

there's plenty about this contemporary game I do not understand ... which includes many of the rule changes ...

but I can tell when we have 4 defensive lineman on the LOS ... and we used that set FAR more against KSU than we did against anyone else ... and perhaps more than several opponents COMBINED.

Being able to "press" with greater confidence in the safeties would certainly account for a better pass defense ... but our run defense was better with a 4 man front. Go figure. It also helps the pass rush ... period.

As many rule changes as there have been ... it's still about blocking and tackling to win championships.

you can "look good in the shower" and win a few games, but you won't be consistent until you can control the LOS. That's the game.

We also moved some DL around right before the snap and stunted the DLs more. A little bit of this and a little bit of that. Further, as the young CBs continue to mature, we should get noticeably better overall on D. That last point is not an excuse. A big gap in quality experienced CB depth is a recruiting failure from the recent past.

Jalen Green statement --

“First and foremost I want to apologize to Wykeen Gill and Kansas State for the hit and targeting penalty that I received during Saturday’s game. I did not try to hurt him, and I would never do that. It’s not how we’re coached or how I play. I have great respect for the game of football and my intent was to break up a screen play that had gotten us several times during the game. I realize how it may have looked, and I understand the penalty that was called. I wish it didn’t happen, and I do want everyone to know I was not trying to take a cheap shot.”

He said his piece. The opposing player wasn't paralyzed, carted off the field, or anything like that. He's taking his suspension. I don't expect he'll do that again. Let's leave it at that.
