Texas vs Iowa State

Bill Fennely is his name, and he is one of the very best offensive minds in the game and an outstanding coach. I like ours better, but I’m certainly not delusional enough to think having Joens out, who is arguably the best player in the Bug 12 didn’t make it a lot easier for us. With Joens it would have been much tougher.
Iowa State always puts together a good team and has a good one this year. But nothing in Bill Fennely’s history should have given anyone more cause for concern than any other game. Reading through the pre-game comments you would have thought Fennely was the second coming. He hasn’t made it past the second round in the NCAA tourney in over a decade.

Vic beat him three times last year and is 4-0 against him overall…and in every position we match up well with them again this year. Additionally Vic’s defenses have done very well against teams that rely heavily on the three.

If you read my very first post on this thread, I wasn’t concerned about our chances. They have one good win against Iowa and just barely beat Kansas State. I stand by my statement: Bill who?

1. Very pleasantly surprised by the large margin as well as the win
2. When all the shots that were going in (not from the free throw line) for ISU were 3's I thought we were doomed
3. Until ISU started clanking at the FT line
4. The team not realizing it was a 2+1 free throw was embarrassing, obviously why Vic called a TO afterwards
5. Not to crazy with the casual shots and gifting them FT in the last 2 minutes of the game
6. Thank God the Joens didn't play so we didn't have to hear yet another recounting of how their dad built them a court in their basement
7. Those refs were C+ at best

Unvaxed. Idiots. So they let their team down because they refused to get vaccinated? They should be kicked off the team.

Whether vaxed or unvaxed, makes no difference with Omicron. Even if they were vaxed, Omicron is breaking through. Joens sisters were held out as a precaution because they were near someone who presumably tested positive.

Kicked off the team, seriously? If Bill were that stupid, hey, I'd want them in burnt orange.

Playing college ball unvaxxed… COVidiots in my book. It shows a severe lack of respect for your teammates. I guess neither are science majors.

You can stand by your statements all you want, but Fennely is an outstanding coach and very respected by his peers. I’d still take Vic over him, but to boast about beating him without one of the best players in the nation and refer to him in that manner for no reason says more about you than Coach Fennely. If he were the sea hag I could understand, but he’s far from it. I respect those who give so much to the game, and represent it like Bill Fennely. He gets the most out of his players and does more with less than most. My observations have nothing to do with our so called chances to beat him, as I thought we had a good shot even if the two Joens girls played. Iowa State is way better than Tech or Kansas, yet they both handed us our behinds on our home floor. I bet you were equally as confident about beating them!!! We are young and inexperienced, thus we never know what to expect.

Sorry Bob but to agree with you is to not give credit to what our Ladies accomplished tonight. We came to play Iowa State, not one or two players. We have been great on the road all year. And the idea that after all we have been through to NOT be vaccinated is just sad.
It was my understanding that they had been around someone who tested positive. Vaccinated or not, they would have been asked to isolate. I was merely being logical about the win, and I believe Bill Fennely has represented the game in a respectful manner and should be addressed as such. It was a good win for us, but would obviously have been tougher with the Joens girls playing. That in no way diminishes our effort and was not my intent....

I support personal choice... but I also support the consequences of personal choices. I don't understand the Joens sisters choice but it's their right to make it. If I was guessing I'd say there's most likely a strong parental influence involved in that situation. That said, it's also the right AND RESPONSIBILITY of governing officials to impose restrictions that protect the interest of others, especially when speaking about public health.
I have always liked Bill Fenelly and admired his coaching abilities. They don't come much (if any) better than him. I applaud him and/or whomever else was involved in the handling of this situation and protecting the rest of the team, staff, opponents, officials, and fans.

Bill Fenelly still has one of the more memorable lines after a loss to Texas a few years ago:

“After getting off to a good start, they punched us in the mouth and made the game a street fight and we couldn’t handle it,” Fennelly said.

Fennelly was asked if the physicality compared to anyone else he’s seen.

“Our football team, maybe,” Fennelly said.

Their coach said the right thing but I’m sure ISU feels like they would have won with their star player and another starter playing (I disagree). That’s got to cause at least a tiny ripple in the locker room you’d think. After all, it can very well happen again…conference tournament….the NCAA’s?

I remember that game. It was a bruiser where KA heavily emphasized getting rebounds on ISU. When he made that statement, some fans on both sides took exception. ISU fans took it that Texas played dirty. Our fans took it as Fennelly implying our team were goons.

Now that time has passed, we think of that statement as a funny compliment, which I think it was. Speaking of football, what about that funky inbounding alignment where it reminded me of a football offensive line

Yes being vaccinated matters with Omicron - that is if you believe in science.
Every player should be vaccinated. If they refuse to get vaccinated they’re either too dumb or too selfish to be on the team.
I bet teammates believe the Joens’ sisters cost them the game.

I'm not gonna get into "right" or "wrong" as it comes to decisions on COVID vaccinations. But, I do think there are so many different things to consider for athletes/coaches who are part of a team as opposed to those of us who are not part of an athletic team; part of that is responsibilities to the well-being of the "team" as a whole.

Here's a quesition: Ebo didn't play - did we miss her? AMoore, Deyona and Latasha were pretty impressive. AMoore learning the college game and Deyona shaking off the rust. Latasha getting more comfortable. I like what I saw from all of them.
Looking at last year's box scores for the 3 games against Iowa State, Lauren Ebo did not play in the first game in Austin; played 5 minutes at Iowa State with 0 points; played 13 minutes with 2 points in the Big 12 tournament game in Kansas City.

Based on how ISU spreads you out, including their post player, Ebo might not be the best matchup on the defensive end. But, last year we could depend on Charli to defend their post player when they floated out to the perimeter; obviously, we don't have Collier any longer. Glad to see Gaston have a very effective game on both ends last night.

We can respectfully disagree texexted. But here's the science:

Early Omicron Breakthroughs Show MRNA Vaccines’ Weakness

"Booster shots with messenger RNA vaccines such as those made by Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE failed to block omicron in a study of some of the first documented breakthrough cases caused by the highly contagious variant...in findings published Tuesday in The Lancet."

As an aside in the tweet by Joens the pic of the little girl in an ISU Tshirt doing the Horns down is funny and sad. Maybe the parents should teach her what support FOR a team looks like.
I still say We should make Horns down Our defensive sign

Good win Ladies :hookem:
