Texas vs BU

Texas is a better team this year, but so is Baylor. We could win, but the odds favor the Bears pretty substantially, especially on their home court. Our starting five should do well; the real problem is fouls and bench performance. Aside from Higgs, who is often inconsistent, we don't get good scoring from our bench in tough games. Sutton and the twins haven't shot or scored well all year. Atkins and Holmes have to stay on the court for us to have a chance. Higgs has to have a good night. And we can't afford our usual bad free throw shooting in this game.

An issue that has been noticeable to me and is key to winning this game. Sutton has not led this team when she comes in at point guard. Her shooting early in the season seemed promising. It has been really poor recently as teams sag off her and beg for her to shoot it. She seems to dribble around a lot looking for "something". The offense seems to stagnate. It could be that she is playing with several other subs and that could contribute as she has fewer scoring options to play with. I realize she has been coming back from knee surgery but that doesn't seem to be the issue. She simply has to come in during the second quarter and not let Baylor go on a run. Our second quarter lull seems to coincide with her and AG coming in. I was expecting more from her this year...........but am still optimistic long term. I also realize that improvement is greatest from freshman to sophomore year. So there is hope. However, if that doesn't happen quickly then Patterson might be the second point guard next year instead of Sutton. Tonight would be a good time for her to step up.

It's interesting that the coaching staff lets Sutton keep shooting, though she has only shot 32.7% in conference play ( and a terrible 16.7% from 3pt.). Does she shoot better in practice? Obviously they hope she will come around. I, too, had the impression she shot better at the start of the year, though it still wasn't great. She has really good moves and drives well for pull up jumpers, but the ball hasn't gone in.

Sutton will be fine. Baylor is just a better team than Texas this year. Next year Baylor will have to replace their guards and because of that Texas will be the better team but not this year.

I think Sutton has tons of potential as a p.g. who can makes things happen, but needs more maturing. If I recall right, she didn't shoot a great percentage from 3 in high school, either. I like her game, but, as you all say, her shooting is not reliable right now and she can be turnover prone. She will probably be fantastic in a year or two, but we need her right this minute. I didn't know what to expect from the twins. I guess they are about what I expected, play really hard, good defense, make a few good baskets now and then. I was hoping they would be more of a threat from three, though.

No one on this planet (except Malcolm) expects us to win tonight, so maybe we will.

From HS video I've seen, Sutton didn't do much from BTA but she had a very smooth, reliable pull up midrange jumper. My guess is that the injury, adjusting to the college game (which has to be most difficult at PG), and coming off the bench rather than being in the flow of the game from the jump has been difficult. Additionally, probably safe to assume that, as Brooke has said, playing PG for Coach Aston is very demanding and could have her pressing, trying to avoid mistakes rather than playing to her strengths.

I'd be shocked next season if we don't see more of the player ranked in the Top 10 coming out of HS.

doing pretty good aren't we? respect, not awed. Horns playing well but it will be a close game. Two very good teams.

not surprising, BU making a push. Horns have to calm down and make their shots. Those scrambles resulting in BU getting the ball have allowed the Lady Bears to make their run.

:hookem2:well, I think we can play with BU.
Doubt if Baylor has been this far down at the half unless it was to UConn.
Both teams come out strong in the third period. Gonna be a barnburner but we got an edge. :hookem3:

Good game so far I love the way Joyner is playing that's beast mode to me, it's still early but if we keep it up the sky's the limit, according to the announcers we haven't lost a game while leading at the half keep it up:headbang::hookem3:

Baylor expects to come back strong in the second half. The problem for them is that the last two quarters are usually when we separate from other teams as well.

SSSOOOO GLAD I purchased my FINAL FOUR tickets!!

I know it's too early but heck we're beating BU by 16!!!

ohh, I think Mulkey is mad!:smile1:
Horns coming out like they started. Always a good sign. The third has been our quarter. :hookem3:
