Starting pitching matchups are:

RHP LBJ vs LHP Shane Sdao

I don’t remember off the top of my head how many pitches LBJ threw the other night but he’s on two days rest and went over 2 innings Saturday so I don’t expect him to go very long. Not sure who else is available, I guess Burke and Tole would be the first ones out?? Ace might get an inning if we need someone to throw strikes. Might be a **** show tomorrow if any one struggles to throw strikes.

LBJ 2 innings, Burke 2, Tole 2, and if we could get more than that out of any of them it would be icing. That still leaves 3 innings to cover if not. Something to watch for tomorrow :idk:

I figure Coach will go with LBJ for 2, then Burke for as long as he’s good. Then Tole for as long as he’s good. Than Lummus or Grubbs. Than the other of Lummus or Grubbs. Then Ace Whitehead.

Burke and Tole have done pretty well and could go 3+ each if they’re throwing well. Lummus is an underutilized quality pitcher. Grubbs will come out of the pen throwing strikes and with some good sauce on the ball. The issue with Grubbs is: will he make some sort of crazy fielding error or overthrow to a base that wrecks his whole inning? A ground ball pitcher like Grubbs can’t be a liability in the field. He’s really good at the pitching part of his job though.

Guys like Grubbs need innings when we can afford to give them while up by 6-8+ runs, not against A&M in a tie or 1 run ballgame, I think it does him a disservice, it’s not a confidence builder. Between LBJ, Tole, Burke, Ace, Lummus, we SHOULD be able to hold the runs down and give us a shot to win. Galvan is getting hot and should continue to grow in his role so now we only have JT that needs to find the groove and our offense will be pretty formidable.

Sdao is a Freshman with a 2.35 ERA who usually only goes for an inning or two.

Could be a Johnny all staff night for both sides.

As Bill in Sinton would say: Focus! It's lowly aggy!!!

ERRBODY, fire-up, bring your A game and humble our testicle grabbing 'Lil brother farmers!!! :hookem:

And DuPlantier may be in the mix.

Team Pitching Stats comparison:

Staff ERA = 4.84
Staff WHIP = 1.52
Opponents' bat. avg. = 0.251
Strikeouts = 247
Walks = 118
Strikeout/Walks Ratio = 2.09
Homeruns Surrendered = 14
Runs Surrendered = 126

UT

Staff ERA = 3.40
Staff WHIP = 1.29
Opponents' bat. avg. = 0.229
Strikeouts = 249
Walks = 100
Strikeout/Walks Ratio = 2.49
Homeruns Surrendered = 12
Runs Surrendered = 103

Advantage UT. The Ags have some control issues and give up more hits. The difference in opponents' batting avg is 0.022, fairly substantial. Their staff ERA is a whopping 1.44 higher than our staff ERA. They've been pretty mediocre on the mound this year. We've been quite good on the mound. Where the Ags get it done (when they get it done) is at the plate.

Team Batting Stats Comparison

Bat. Avg. = 0.268
OPS = 0.809
Homeruns = 21
Runs Scored = 180

UT

Bat. Avg. = 0.286
OPS = 0.869
Homeruns = 35
Runs Scored = 176

Slight advantage UT. I say slight, because the "Runs Scored" is the biggest factor--however you get them, and the Ags have a 4 run advantage (180 vs. 176) there. Both teams have a good OPS, with UT's bordering on excellent. The Horns have shown a lot more power, especially in recent games.

These are both pretty good batting teams.

Statistically, the difference is in the pitching, which favors UT by a significant margin.

But, the game is played on the field. It will be interesting to see how the Ags' #2, #3, #4, #5? pitchers tonight fare. The Horns have better pitching depth in the pen than we've had in quite a few years. That could be the difference. Pierce should keep the pitchers on a short leash tonight. If someone starts walking batters, it's time to go with the next guy on the mound.

He certainly has his detractors...
He does look a lot better this year, and frankly his numbers aren't bad.

(some folks just don't like Denny's for breakfast...)

Perhaps we'll save DuPlantier for bases loaded situations.

All kidding aside, his numbers are pretty good this year. This is baseball; statistics do matter.

Aggie's field (Olsen ???) sucks. Poor design for small park. If the wind is out of the South/Southwest (sometimes Southeast) the wind cups under the upper deck and gives a batted ball extra lift (sometimes extra distance). The field floods and ponds easily.

Then, there's the scenic freight train blowing its horn and moving 1/3 mph in right field.

Add that Chandler is no longer around to make fun of, I don't like the Cesspool on the Brazos for baseball.

We've been power hitting really well lately...

Just sayin'...

The old Busch Stadium, the Astrodome, or the Polo Grounds it is not. Hitters' park.

Duplantier will probably be the first guy out of the pen actually. If I had to guess. I forgot he was available

Yeah, he slipped my mind.

While many fans have nightmarish memories of DuP giving up grand slams in the back of their heads from last year, DuPlantier's numbers are actually pretty good this year. I'd pull him at the first sign of trouble, but he should be good for a couple of innings tonight. Not much beyond that, even if he's doing well. He's just not our guy to pitch when the bases are loaded.

While the ags lack pitching depth, their batting lineup can put some points on the scoreboard.

Batters 1 through 6 are all solid.

Jack has been hitting very well lately. There's no question about the other 5.

And Galvan has entered the room.

Man, aggy might wanna petition the SECN to lay off the crowd shots tonight. The campus collective body mass index has to be around 40. We deep thinkers are often to ponder, which leads me to ask. Does the Chicken not offer a lite menu? A wedge salad plate with a side of squat thrusts? Do the freshman coed dining halls stay open late? Like, really late?
