Texas Voter ID Law Imperiled

While they may give lip service to instilling voter confidence in Diebold machines, Republicans will never do anything that will ensure said machines are fraud proof.

Does it matter to any of you that voter ID laws will not protect against the kind of fraud they are ostensibly designed to eliminate?

It's a shame that the knuckle dragging countries can figure this one out before us. Even Crockett's 95 year old "targeted victims" could vote with the ink method. Even if a dead person voted, they could only vote once!

The disconnect and problem with voter ID is that it is a higher standard than the standard of registering to vote.
See what can be used for an identification requirement below from Bexar county to register to vote:

What if I don't have a driver's license, personal identification number, OR a social security number? Can I still register to vote in Texas?
A voter who has not been issued a driver’s license or social security number may register to vote, but such voter must submit proof of identification when presenting himself/herself for voting or with his/her mail-in ballots, if voting by mail. These voters’ names are flagged on the official voter registration list with the annotation of “ID.” The “ID” notation instructs the poll worker to request a proper form of identification from these voters when they present themselves for voting. Acceptable identification includes:

a driver's license or personal identification card issued to the person by the Department of Public Safety or a similar document issued to the person by an agency of another state, regardless of whether the license or card has expired;
a form of identification containing the person's photograph that establishes the person's identity;
a birth certificate or other document confirming birth that is admissible in a court of law and establishes the person's identity;
United States citizenship papers issued to the person;
a United States passport issued to the person;
official mail addressed to the person by name from a governmental entity;
a copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or other government document that shows the name and address of the voter; or
any other form of identification prescribed by the Secretary of State.

The above allows an illegal immigrant or felon to register to vote and simply show a paystub or utility bill.

The new law requires a more stringent identification. That will certainly stop alot of folks from voting that shouldn't be registered to vote in the first place. This is why the Democrats don't want this voter ID law, especially in south Texas.

The root of the problem is the voter registration vetting process (or lack thereof)by the counties.

I don't know what thumbprint scanning technology would cost and how accurate it is. If it works well, then I think it would be great. Make sure voters are who they say they are. If the idea is to preserve the integrity of the vote, a thumbprint and a drivers license, even if expired, should be adequate identification or the aforementioned letters from a government agency and a utility company should be adequate. Ensuring integrity without creating needless hassles for prospective voters should be the goal.

I'll try one more time to get a reasonable response from the left on my earlier posts. There is an important principle at work here - We should see that all who are legally entitled to vote, and only those legally entitled to vote, get to vote. Does anyone have a serious problem with this concept? If not, it should be fairly obvious that anyone who wants to vote should be able to provide proof that he is eligible.

By the literal definition of the term, attempting to overthrow the government would be an act of treason. How about that for harsh enough. By trying to sway the vote isn't that in fact what you are doing? I'm not advocating the death penalty for voter fraud but I agree that this should be taken very seriously and dealt with just as seriously. Of course there would need to be clear intent for the harshest of consequences.

The unserious( and that is a word, AB) types never comment on the thread topic opting instead to tap into the lower self by getting personal.
You're becoming quite the little stalker.

All we heard from the libs in 2000 is how George Bush stole the election from Al Gore. Now you're defending cheating by trying to block us knowing who that votes is who they say they are. Satchel you can spin it all you want (and no doubt about it that you are) but everyone knows that you are trying to protect the cheaters because it benefits your side.

If you're not ready to give integrity to elections then the libs need to stop their damn crying about GWB stealing an election. Just a bunch of cry babies that never stop.

Two things:
There is no evidence ofvoter fraud that would be eliminated by the new Texas law.
GWB didn't steal the 2000 election, The SC did it for him.

They're not the same thing.

Actually the people of Florida and the people of Tennessee were very much key to GWB's win. Who knew Al Gore better than the good folks in Tennessee? To say the SC stole the election is the rough equivalent of saying Obama was born in Kenya. It generally illustrate's one's ignorance. There was never a vote count where Al Gore won Florida in any way shape or form just as there's no physical evidence of Obama being born in Kenya, other than his Grandmother.

One can hardly imagine a scenario that would have the current POTUS "selected" under such a cloud. The already crazy wingers would be even crazier.

Mr. Deez,

I'm doing this off of memory, but wasn't there thousands of early absentee votes that went missing from our military that were registered in Florida that voted from overseas that to this day has never been found? Those votes mostly would have gone to Bush so we really don't know what the true outcome would be. I just remember the right being furious about it.
