The Horns travel to South Texas to play UT Rio Grande Valley down in Edinburg, Texas for the first time in 50 years. This seems to be the year that Texas gives all its midweek opponents their make good home game for all their trips to Austin as the unusually high number of mid week road games finally comes to an end with this trip. Horns won a few weeks ago 13-5 and it would be good to see bats stay hot tonight coming off the sweep of Baylor and with the absolutely massive Okie State series coming this weekend.

The game is on ESPN+.

Zane Morehouse gets the start as Texas continues its search for a solid number four starter.

Yeah! Morehouse is finally getting the start!

Eckhardt may develop into a quality starter, but that hasn't happened this year. We've tried a number of other options for that 4th starter position, and nobody has stepped up and performed at an adequate level. Meanwhile, Morehouse has been steadily moving up the stat sheet with respectable (though not overwhelming) numbers, and turning in some quality performances in middle relief. It's his chance to start. We need a 4th starter to develop. Regionals will be here before you know it.

2022 Baseball Cumulative Statistics - University of Texas Athletics

Zane Morehouse :bevo::bevo::bevo:
3.45 ERA
1.34 WHIP

(those are some respectable, above-average #s there)
13 Strikeouts
7 Walks
6'4" 200 lbs
from Dawson, Texas pop. 807 (near Corsicana & Hillsboro)
Pitched 4 hitless innings against Tech with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts
Fastball in the mid-to-upper 90s :fire::fire::fire: with mostly good control
Good slider.

That 4th starter spot is all his for the taking--if he gets the job done...

Go Zane! Mow them down and stack them like wood! Go Horns!

D team on the cameras tonight.

And they don’t even show the count.

But they’ve got a pitch count. We’ll give them that.

Good thing they read this website. They’ve now added the count.

Ouch. Schusler out stealing 2nd on a dropped ball but not really a passed ball. Somebody tell Schusler that catchers don’t have the speed to do that.

Now Campbell steals 2nd. They overthrew it and he steals 3rd!

and there’s a guy who does have the speed to do that sort of thing.

Daly K. Looking.

Murph pops it up for the third out.

Next inning we’ll get a crooked number.

On to more of The Zane Morehouse Show.

3 up 3 down for Morehouse in the 3rd. Including 2 strikeouts. Morehouse is dealin’. On to the 4th. Still 1-0 us.

Ha! A real past ball—back to the wall. Schusler can, and does, steal 2nd on that one.

Campbell—K

It’s up to Daly now.

RGV pitcher Garza has gone from living low in the zone to living in the dirt. Let’s hope this continues.

And now living on Daly’s foot. Beaned him on the foot.

Faltine up with two on. He’s got power.

:drummernana::drummernana::drummernana::drummernana::drummernana:

So Garza overcompensates and goes waaaay high, walking Faltine.

Bases loaded for Hodo.

:drummernana::drummernana::drummernana::drummernana::drummernana:

Garza gets the hook
Hit the showers
Exit stage left
Enter Gerik for RGV—he looks like he should be playing in a cover band or something with that real long hair and full beard.

And 3 up 3 down for Morehouse AGAIN in the bottom of the 4th, including two more strikeouts!

This is the sort of midweek starting pitching we’ve been lacking.

On to the 5th. 5-0 us.

Need to play our better relievers as well. Time for experimentation is over. Play those who are getting it done.
