Texas v Tech Game Three

Well somebody getting taken out of the yard by the UTPD by the Tech dugout

Cox gets a pop out for the first out.
The next hitter walks and out comes Skip again to bring in Boardman to face a lefty hitter.

He strikes out the big lefty hitter Poteet.
Kind of wish we would have brought in a lefty to face him in his
last at bat.

Skip out again and now Hollingsworth comes in to face a righty.

We kind of blow threw a lot of pitcher these days sometimes.
I hope we don't run short if we were to have to go to extras.

Hollingsworth gets a pop up to end the inning.

To the bottom of the 8th 4-2 Tech leads.

Weis leads off and lines to short for out one.

Payton singles to center and again the tying run to the plate.
Hinojosa is due.

Tadlock out to the mound and calls for another right hander to pitch for Tech.

Hinojosa K's swinging on three pitches for the second out.

This is the guy that closed out the game Friday night and he is their closer I guess.

Marlow works a walk in a good at bat and the tying runs are on again with two outs.

Felts up looking for a clutch hit.
Felts strikes out on a low pitch to end another inning with the tying runs on base.

Not looking good now as Tech leads 4-2 after eight.

I leave you guys alone for an hour............

This is Texas baseball 2012, great pitching that will give them a chance to win every game and putrid hitting that will waste a great pitching staff and leave fans bashing their heads against walls.

Hollingsworth K's the first batter looking for out one.
Lazy fly ball to center for the second out.
Ground ball to first goes 3-1 for the third out.

To the bottom of the ninth Tech leads 4-2.

Texas needs a multiple run inning to tie or win the game.
That hadn't happened much this season,
We have stranded 5 runners in the last two innings.

It's break through or drop the first conference series at home to Tech who hasn't won a series here in many years.

Carter leads off with a weak ground ball right back to the mound and is out 1-3 for the first out.

Hall grounds a ball up the middle, but the shortstop ranges over and makes a nice play for out two.

Johnson takes a curve right down the heart of the plate for a K and that's your ball game.

Tech wins 4-2 and takes the series 2-1.

Four runs total for Texas in three games,
That will get you beat unless your pitching is perfect.
We need an offense stat. We have needed one for a long time and it's still not happening.

I think it's a bad sign, but I am starting to get a little numb to losses like this as I have come to expect them.

This is depressing. How our teams in all the sports that count, which all seemed to be on a roll 4-5 years back have problems which just do not seem to go. The same old kind of problems persist and nothing seems to get fixed. Things need to change.

Totally depressed to see that the bats are even worse than the last two years. How can we go from being NCAA-worst to something even worse?

I am not saying that we are a great hitting team, but the Tech pitchers
were very good....... and their team did not exactly tattoo our pitchers,
either. Augie said that he thinks the hitters will come around so let's
see if that rookie knows what he's talking about.

Augie has been saying that for 3-4 years. I no longer believe that rookie

.. Had he been recruiting top hitting talent, yes, but even that we haven't seen, have we?

As for tech being a great pitching team, I don't know. Basically we haven't been getting hits against any decent pitcher through 19 games. We are talking NCAA top-150 numbers so far in every batting category. And we haven't been playing the top-10 teams or anything either.

I hope you (and that rookie, who must know his stuff) are right, and will gladly eat crow, but I am almost giving up on this year already. My positive attitude hasn't helped the last few years. May be I will get negative and see.

I will be first to admit that Augie has forgotten more baseball than i know, but I think he is either trying to prop up his team or just plain being disingenuous when he talks about the hitting coming any time now.

This team lacks power plain and simple. Every Texas team that did damage in Omaha had 2-3 power hitters that were a threat anytime they were at the plate. this team has Payton and not a lot more and even he is an Ichiro type who gets a lot of singles but who needs other hitters around him to make that pay off.

When a two run deficit seems like a canyon, you know your offense is bad. I just dont understand how Texas can have such an outstanding pitching staff and to their credit have a good infield that isnt making the errors that plagued last years team but cant find any power hitters.

I am becoming numb to the losses too and even worse its hard to enjoy the wins like yesterday because you see the fruits of future losses in them. I think this team has a shot at making the postseason but it will be a struggle.

Now even the baseball program is down in the dumps along with Basketball. The entire athletic department needs to be shaken up. Being unranked and losing a home series to Tech is not cool. Well Deloss?

We have dealt with it for several years.

Talking about what other teams do or don't do does not solve our on going problems.

Skip works hard and does get results recruiting pitching.

Pitching is not the question here, we have very little in the way of hitting. We have not recruited hitters and are reaping that lack of effort in that regard.

Things are different in the game of baseball now. These kids play it year round for the most part. The summer leagues and the select teams.

Nearly gone are the days where you played all the sports in high school, especially for baseball players and basketball.

Your not going to recruit a kid and then teach him how to hit in college. If you can't hit by the time you reach this level your just not ever going to nearly every time.

The mechanics have been taught way before you get to this level. To me hitting is a natural gift mostly that can't be taught any more than you can teach someone to throw a baseball 90 mph.

If everybody could be taught to hit or pitch they would be doing it.
You have to have good timing and hand to eye coordination to hit a baseball well and that just can't be taught. Without that all the mechanics in world won't help.

It's been the same scenario for years now. We get smallish or tall skinny kids that can run and field their position and can't hit a lick.

That's the problem the people that need to deal with the
problem have not done so and it persists and grows worse.

Whether Nichols addresses this problem and in a timely manner remains to be seen, but it should be his main concern if the the program is to get back on track.
