Ugh. Kevin with a first-pitch chopper to short that very nearly turned two. Shepherd scores. Tech leads, 4-2, with runners on the corners and two away.
Sorry Texanne but Lusson looked at two straight pitches for strikes 2 and 3 without even offerring, very frustrating performance for entire team today at the plate.
This is a worrisome couple of performances for the team regardless of what happens in this next 1/2 inning. It is easy to lose momentum and now is not the time to see it happen. Yesterday was an anomoly but today is looking like a trend and that is not good.
Tough couple of days. Hopefully they can put it together for aggy on saturday and get some momentum coming back to Austin.
In the big picture this tournament can mean nothing or it can be a portend of things to come, lets hope it turns out to just be a lost weekend. If we were going to have a lost week this was the time to have it. On to Saturday and then the regionals.
I need to vent. I'm so tired of the other players ******* Taylor over when he pitches. He wasn't overpowering today, but he still lasted six innings and allowed just one earned run.
Meanwhile, defensive errors help plate three unearned runs and, naturally, the offense is stuck in neutral. Seriously, I'm sure it's not intentional, but Taylor deserves better than what his teammates have been giving him this season. What's his record now--4-3? Thanks for nothing, fellas.
For the tournament, Texas pitchers have allowed six earned runs--a bit above our season average but still better than decent numbers.
Meanwhile, the offense has only contributed five runs--just enough to equal the five unearned runs they've given up on defense.
As a fan, I want to be positive and supportive, and I realize this tournament won't have much of an impact on our national seeding. But I still say the hitters and fielders should be ashamed of themselves for the effort they've put forth so far this tournament and for not doing more to help their pitchers.
Hope we can look back on this weekend and laugh rather than point to it as the moment the wheels came off the wagon.
Don't give up. We must get ready for the "real" playoffs. Everyone stay calm and focused. We can go all the way. Remember let these two games be wake up calls more than loses. We must keep fighting. Synergy must be the goal.
Remember your history. Sometimes good things happen with horrible situations. In 1964 we lost the NC in football when we lost to Arkansas by one point on missing a two point conversion. Part of the problem was we weren't ready or expecting it and due to the substitution rules we didn't have our one of our best players on the field. We learned from this lack of preparation and were ready when we played Arkansas for the NC in 1969 and made the two point conversion and won by one point.
Look at how we got rooked by the Big 12 and polls in 2008 when a team we beat by 10 points got to play for the NC and we had to go to Arizona to play in the Fiesta Bowl. We won the game and also got to meet a great family and they were won over to us. The family was the Westermans.
2 losses at home and the Season is Over, this team will have to play much better all around to win their own regional. The lack of offense is a concern. I like the horns chances in their regional but the Super regional will be difficult. How far does Texas fall losing 2 in a row? Losing to Missouri and Tech hurts because these 2 teams are not very good this year.
I have not read this thread yet so not sure if someone has mentioned, but this is the same team that was swept by Nebraska. Nebraska. What an embarassment. I just hope we got that out of our system.
