Texas v. Oklahoma State April 29-May 1, 2022

Starting to look more and more like I'll have my June back this year. This pitching staff isn't getting us to Omaha.

RBI single. 4-0 them.
Tristan is out
Enter Sthele.

It’s been a while since Tristan has had a really good outing. He used to be like a co-ace of the staff. Long slump. Hope he gets it back soon.

Barring a heck of a comeback, it will be up to Gordon to prevent a sweep.

10-0 them

Gordon has been our most consistent starter.
Hansen and Tristan get the headlines, but when we play any good team, they both get bombed like they are pitching during batting practice. I believe we need another pitching coach because our staff is very talented and yet our team is not playing up to their potential.

I prefer to never call out 18-22 year olds who aren’t professionals and are playing a game for my entertainment so no names but suffice to say some Texas pitchers who came into this season with a chance to make a lot of money with their performance have not helped their draft status and if anything have probably cost themselves a lot of money.

After today's *** whoopin' we came home, grilled burgers and my wife asked if we could watch Bull Durham hoping it would bring back her belief in baseball. I have a good one don't I.

Yes our best 4 pitchers have gotten worse this year . (1 got injured).
That’s not supposed to happen.
Our hitting has improved, but not great against top pitchers.

My take on Gordon: I think Gordon throws multiple changeups (with decent movement) at different speeds that look the same to batters coming out of his hand. So they may see a 91 mph fastball, a 85 mph changeup, a 81 mph changeup, and a 77 mph changeup. Along with a breaker when he needs to. And he’s smart, mixing it up, and has good control. He seems to frequently confuse all but the most sophisticated batters. They can’t get into a rhythm. All in all, I agree he’s been our best this year. And he was set to be our #4.

Smart pitcher, that Gordon.

I don't know how anyone can be a Pierce apologist any longer. This team is a major disappointment and his stubborn refusal to hold players to account is an obvious problem. Latest example was trotting out Nixon, who has repeatedly underperformed this year, yet again last night in one of the most important games of the year. The completely predictable result (another blown game) set the tone for today, and probably, the rest of the season. We have TWENTY SIX pitchers on scholarship, so either he and his staff did a horrible job of recruiting or he can't recognize or admit failure - it has to be one of the two, and either one should a fire-able offense. Actually, he should have been **** canned for finishing LAST place in the Big XII two years ago, but apparently we've given up trying to run respectable programs in the big three sports...

I don't disagree with that last part at all about two years ago, that should never happen at UT baseball. I'm still going to hold out hope that the pitchers come around and pull it together in the post season. But I have been very adamant that this should be Pierces last season if they fall short of Omaha, there is absolutely no hope for next season so I see no reason we should have to wait to see how NEXT season plays out just to find out its even worse and similar to 2019. And I've always been leery of the pitching coach knowing he doesn't have any experience in that skill set. IF Pierce survives, I would look for a change in that position but it better be a home run hire.

just an fyi - This weekend we are getting dominated by our old pitching coach.

I am as disappointed as anyone about how the season has gone to date but this talk about firing the coach is absurd. There is no more entitled and spoiled fan base than Texas and I say that as a proud Longhorn with not one but two degrees from UT and 40 plus years of being a fan before and after my time in Austin (yes do the math, that puts me in my fifties). Times like this are why so many people revel in Texas losing because we eat our own. The one constant in Texas sports has been baseball with just four coaches in 50 plus years and I am not in favor of running off a coach the year after he had us in the national freaking semifinals. Every program in the Big XII and most in the SEC would trade their last six years for Texas' under Pierce.

Lets not forget that in his first five plus seasons at Texas (with one cut way short) he has won 200 games, two Big XII titles, gotten to Omaha twice and already has more wins in Omaha than aggy has in their entire history. The one recurring argument is to keep pointing to 2019 but that is using his outlier year of the six and frankly Gus and Augie at their best would have struggled in 2019. Literally every thing that could go wrong that year with injuries and close losses all happened in the same year and it was like the baeball gods decreed you will get zero breaks and everything will go against you.

Pierce has proven he can win in the cauldron that is Texas baseball and this season isnt even over so we cant yet say how this will end. But even if it does end as it seems to be headed in a disappointing way that is not cause to throw everything out and start over. Pierce has had great recruiting classes that actually made it to campus and has a pipeline set up that will keep Texas in the conversation for years to come and I believe will get the Horns to Omaha consistently and at some point one of those teams will win it all. Those invested in Pierce failing refuse to see the gains in this program from where it was at the end of the Augie era and have a false sense that there are coaches out there who would even come to Austin let alone be as successful as Pierce has been. This isnt the 70's and 80's and college baseball is a different world now.

The expectations were so high for this team…ranked #1 and then winning the first 11, but to witness a football/basketball like collapse is just freaking exhausting. I appreciate others holding out hope that we go on a magical run, so shame on me for not having the energy. I don’t want anyone fired, I just want this thing corrected.

Season doesn't go as planned - fire the coach. This is like being on the football boards.

No its not. Hes been here 6 years lol, 2019 was unacceptable, substandard year this year and he should be gone, this years team has twice as much talent as next year, so why wait? Next year is going to be abysmal.

We fired two hall of fame legends for consecutive substandard years in baseball. I still believe they will get it together, i was just saying. Baseball and Basketball are different, the number needed to compete is smaller than football and the roster can be turned over quicker to compete at the highest level sooner. I have zero regrets for moving on with an overall substandard record after 6 years as the head coach in baseball.

I read and heard from sports heads across the country this team had no discernable weaknesses or holes in its lineup. I'm not suggesting a new coach, but something has to change. Hearing Pierce say it does no good to yell at the team is disturbing to me. What does he do after games like the last two? Give them a hug?

Players gotta play. If you think we got as far as we did last year is no thanks to our coaches and all cuz we had great players, then why is this year all on the coaches and no fault of the players?

Two trips to Omaha (with a third extremely likely but for Covid) in 6 years is substandard? ********.
