Texas v. Oklahoma State April 29-May 1, 2022

And now the infielders and Coach are on the mound discussing where to catch a live band after the game.

LBJ lived in the dirt a bit, but pops up their big slugger.

Last chance. Need 2+ runs.

Go Horns!!!

Hard fought game lost in the 9th inning vs the #8 team in the nation.

Tomorrow is the key to the series, so Tristan needs to show up with his good stuff.

On Sunday, Gordon (3.00 ERA) takes on an OSU pitcher with lousy numbers.

The Series:

Horns played hard-State just better tonight. Hansen got dinged, so did Nixon. Series still can be taken.

The #1 ranking at the beginning of the year was based on their performance at the end of last year & the number of good players they had coming back. And then they won the first 11 games. I think the ranking was justified at the time. Unfortunately, they couldn't maintain it and now the fall in the rankings is justified. I just hope they can win the next two (and the remaining conference series) and keep from sliding out of regional-hosting consideration. I was at the game, and OSU holding Texas to only 3 runs in the 5th inning was huge--all 9 hitters came to the plate in that inning and Ardoin struck out with the bases loaded. That said, 6 runs should be sufficient to win a baseball game--especially on a Friday night.

The loss of Witt is worth about 4-5 spaces in the rankings. Gordon was supposed to be our mid-week starter. Now, he has the best ERA of our weekend starters.

Pitching stats page on Texassports.com says our pitching staff has given up 45 HRs this year. Hansen is by far the biggest offender, having given up 12 all by himself. We only gave up 36 all of last year.

Part of the reason for all the home runs against us is the wind at home has been blowing out hard for 2 months. The same reason we have record home runs for us. 81 I think is the current total. Losing Witt was large. We could have had Gordon as mid week starter who has done an incredible job on Sunday. He could have also been used as relief during the weekend and given our bullpen some much needed help. Our bullpen is like a box of chocolates.

Hansen has a tendency to give up HR’s. Same thing happened to him against TTU. The two starts are his worst.
That happens when you throw meat balls right down the middle. Campbell lived on the corners and even outside the zone due to a pathetic strike zone. But Campbell took advantage of it.

Giving up walks will kill you, but so will throwing right down the middle against a good hitting team. That's the difference between a good a great pitcher. Reality is we don't have a great pitcher this season and Nixon has been in a slump. We started the season #1 due to a highly over-rated pitching staff, and then losing Tanner was a killer.

I know I am a homer but I sure thought the strikezone for Campbell went quite a bit lower than it did for our guys.

Tristan pitches into a jam.

Tristan pitches out of a jam.

0-1 them to the bottom of the 2nd.

And today, the ump’s already giving OSU’s hurler a lot of outside strike calls that were off the plate outside. If he does so for Tristan also, ok. But he’s got to be consistent.

2-0 them top of the 5th after that solo HR.

It’s warming up outside, but our bats are as cold as Siberia thus far.
