Texas v. Incarnate Word March 18-20, 2022

New game plan: run up the score so grand slams served up by the young pitchers don’t matter. I like it.

Side is out after only 3 batters. Stevens is throwing up to 93mph. Hitting the corners with great control. Everything as usual.

From Houston Northshore High School. Fastball in the lower 90s. Likes to mix it with a change up. Competent curveball. Another strikeout pitcher. Played in the West Coast Summer league for Victoria HarbourCats in BC, Canada, against the likes of the Wenatchee Applesox, where he was reportedly one of the best pitchers and really racked up the strikeouts and showed good control. While Garza is the staff ace this year, Celestino's performance over his career is nothing to sneeze at.

HarbourCat takes the mound. The announcers mentioned his control being good.

Yeah! Returned the favor of a perfectly placed indefensible infield hit. Men on the corners. No outs.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Poor glove flip toss by second baseman. Bases loaded. One away. Harbourcat’s infield hasn’t been doing him any favors today…

:yippee:

Now Faltine! Single into right. Advances Messinger to 3rd. Corners. One out. 1-1. 4 th inning. And Faltine steals!

Ugggh. Daly K

it’s up to Hodo to drive two in

or walk—which is precisely what he did.

Celestino has been living dangerously and narrowly escaping a big inning.

Bases loaded two away.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Hard grounder by Ivan. 3rd baseman can’t get a grip on it. Hodo scores!

4-1 UT

Tristan gives up a solo shot in the top of the seventh but gets through the inning with no more damage and that should be it for him, 10-2 Horns at the stretch,:hookem:

Exit Stevens
Enter Dayton

7 innings. 2 runs. Not too shabby. That’s a 2.57 ERA for the day.

I haven’t broken out the calculator, but I bet Tristan is well below a 2.00 ERA for the season. Probably in the low 1’s.

UIW needs to take a lot more fielding practice. Both their infielding and their outfielding really stink. Reminds me of this year’s Rice team. We’re rather spoiled watching the Horns play D.
