Texas v. Baylor April 22-24, 2022

Woah!!!

2 run Homerun by some guy I’ve never even seen play before.

20-1
Going forward, HR’s by the opposition will be noted in grand slam units, as in solo HR = 1/4 grand slam, 2-run HR = 1/2 grand slam, 3-run HR = 3/4 grand slam, and so on. Since the team gives up so many grand slams and other HR’s, it will be easier to add up the score.

This is like one of those elimination games at the regionals against the four seed, where they’ve run out of pitchers and the backup third baseman is on the mound.

Maybe the Horns will see the Bailor Center Fielder pitch in the 9th?

Hopefully, tonight the Horns put a serious dent in their bullpen for Sat. and Sun.

On the mound for us—Morehouse is getting it done! 3 scoreless innings now for the young reliever. He’s hitting the corners with low to mid 90s fastballs and getting them to chase some breaking stuff.

Blair in relief... 8.74 ERA o_O
Yep. Same problem as some of the other guys with real high velocity, but lacking in control. If these light-up-the-radar-gun guys could get their control down, they’d be dangerous. Like Nixon when he’s really on.

Two questions for you veteran fans: why were none of those Baylor missed balls in the outfield and that grounder booted by the third baseman called errors? Glove on the ball and missed to me is an error.
Plus anyone else notice Faltine changed from a wide spread at the plate where he went three for three to a more narrow - shoulder length spread and went 0-2? Anyone know why? Different pitchers I know might have been the reason but I’m curious to know.

Watched it tape delayed, but one hell of a game. Made my "no plans with the SO" Friday night quite enjoyable!!

In my scorebook, the one to the third baseman was an error. I don’t remember disagreeing with the way the fly balls were scored. I was at the game, not watching on tv, so didn’t have the benefit of replay. Generally speaking, if an outfielder has to make an exceptional effort to get to the ball it might be ruled a hit even if it glances off the glove. I don’t know how it’s defined in the rule book, just speaking from experience

The Bailor bullpen has to have a big dent, so going forward it's going to be about how well their starters pitch. Sometimes you wish you could carry some of those runs forward, but let's hope the equipment boys left our bats in the oven overnight.

I'd sure like to know WTF our 1st base coach is doing though. Why is a runner standing on 1st on a deep fly ball to center field?? You're not going to tag so get that runner towards 2nd and ready to head to third. Even if he's standing on 2nd and the ball is caught he can easily make it back to 1st. We've screwed that up 2 games in a row and last night got burned. There may be a time when that 1 run matters.

The mental part of base running does not seem to be our forte.

Coach Gus’ teams were generally aggressive on the base pads, but not stupid.

Today, Tristan needs to come out strong the first two innings. Lately, he’s been shelled in inning 1 or 2, then he settles down and does well through innings 5, 6, or 7.

We should see a lot better starting pitching today, and even more so on Sunday when we face the conference’s leading pitcher. Get their pitch counts up and get to their crummy and decimated bullpen.

Always ticks me off when I go to a ‘sell out’ and there are empty seats everywhere. I would love to go today and/or tomorrow but saying they are sell outs. Baloney.

Just get into the stadium. You then find David Ash and shadow him for the entire game. By the eighth inning you will be in primo seats behind home plate.
