Texas @ TTU 01/18/2023

The post-mortem. Vic is correct about needed to "re-stat" the game. I had the live stats up during the game and they were sticking Sonya with some of Rori's turnovers. Wish the Lubbock media would have asked if Vic ever considered going to a zone for a little while just to switch things up.

To the victors go the spoils.
Maybe I’m old fashioned and lean in on decency and class and grace in winning (which is how Texas wins). So no, I disagree that the “spoils” include not winning gracefully and respectfully. I believe it’s called sportsmanship or something. But to each his/her own.

I too, wish Vic would throw in a Zone D every now & then, but I have a hard time remembering a Texas HC that would with any regularity if at all.

As far as Texas being unsuccessful against a Zone D it seems like that is ISU’s bread & butter and Texas won. K St plays a lot of zone. We had some wide open 3’s last night and if those had gone in early I’m sure the outcome would have been better.

Best salve for this loss would be a win Sunday in Waco (that, and the knowledge that trips to Lubbock are about to be history).

Classy Tech players with the horns down. Matches their crowd who boo’d the Texas team pregame (no surprise there).
You will never come across a sorrier fan base than tech fans. I grew up near lubbock and this is not new. They have been miserable souls from the inception of time because all they hear is no one wants to live there or be there. Either way, maybe 1 more year and hopefully never again!

We sound like a bunch of sore losers. They won a big game in front of a rowdy home crowd and deserve to celebrate. Unfortunately the “horns down” is now a thing with every school we play, so we might as well get used to it. There’s a reason it’s such a huge deal to beat Texas - because of our success on the court. The coaches/players need to learn from this and take it out on Baylor! Next up!

Sportsmanship & class never go along with tech.

Remember the date, February 8th!

Fill up Moody and just win the Damn game.

Be loud but respectful and do not act like those losers!
There's actually some clown on twitter now who is trying to get Tech fans to buy tickets to that game. They weren't able to pull that off on the men's team this time because there were no single game tix available after accounting for season ticket holders and students. And the attendance in their own gym for the game last night was only 5400, so you wouldn't expect a rush of cactus-heads desperate to see a WBB game in ATX. But on the other-hand, with their "pride and joy" men's team now falling apart like all their other sports programs do, maybe they'll rally for a minute around their WBB team and act like they've followed them all along.

Texas stabbed every other conference member in the back as it chases a paycheck. Save the “sportsmanship” lecture for another time.

The rest of the conference schools have gladly cashed the checks they got from Texas for years.

Quit your bitching about us doing what is best for us. What do you think the TV rating will be when you guys play UCF, about the same as the number of sets left on for people’s pets. Enjoy your much lower TV checks.

Left on for people’s pets? So, like the Longhorn Network?

I for one am not a huge fan of leaving the Big 12. However, upon our exit, several Big 12 schools will no longer be the monetary beneficiary that they are while we've been here. I'm sure that has a lot to do with the bitterness over our departure. Otherwise, being that we're so hated, why wouldn't other Big 12 member schools be celebrating our exit?

This has been a real trying year for the team - not having Rori and then Moore getting hurt just as we were coming together creates yet another hurdle - we need another quick guard - Vic doesn't have a lot of flexibility with the line up- also, we are not a very fast team - some of the younger players are coming around - but overall this isn't a very experienced group playing together(as a team)
I have no doubt that they will continue to improve, but with some potholes along the way - hopefully we can stay mostly healthy because I think we could see a much more positive, consistent level of play by mid February and March

Texas Tech wants nothing more than to beat Texas. When you talk about “Little Brother Syndrome,” it’s Tech, not A&M, that suffers most.
They despise Texas for many reasons - their abysmal record vs. Texas in every sport, their school is located in Lubbock - a dreadful town - and 99% of their student body couldn’t get into UT.
As a result, Tech has one of the most classless fan bases in the country.
I do agree with one poster - the best way to shut them up is to beat them. I predict a beat down when they come to Austin later this season.

With a full Texas squad, this is a true beat down. We have sure been bitten by the injury bug this year.

No let-down. We just didn't have an effective offensive answer to their zone D. And the double-digit TOs and cold 3pts doomed us.
All this plus we sent them to the line 30 times vs 6 times for us.
We shot poorly, turned the ball over, couldn’t score on the zone and gave them 22 points at the line – and only lost by 4.
By 4.
It took a monumental disaster of a game by us to lose to them.

My main issue at this point is Vic, in his presser, blamed the loss entirely on player effort. We didn’t play hard enough. I thought we could have been more aggressive certainly, but that’s almost every game.

In addition to us fouling too much, the main issue was we couldn’t solve their zone which led to the turnovers and the poor shooting. That’s a coaching challenge / X’s and O’s issue to get the players in position to succeed. Blaming the girls isn’t fixing that.

Just got back from the WBB luncheon they're hosting a couple times in the season. This is #2 of 5.

1. Vic took responsibility for the loss of the game. He said it was hard having to show up today with the guilt he had for losing the game.

2. Said that during warmups, the girls were hitting every shot. He turned to one of the bench coaches and said, "Oh boy. We're in trouble"

3. When they players tried 3's on the first 5 out of 6 shots, he thought about calling timeout. But decided to let them try to play through it. He admitted that was a mistake.

4. Said Tech coach again refused to shake his hand

5. Said that seeing 30 vs 6 free throws you don't expect in the college game. He said when he last coached high school, that disparity wouldn't be unusual. But for a college game, very unusual. [he's trying to not say anything that will get him fined by the Big 12 office]

6. Said that as he was re-watching the tape, he stopped at 15 clips (to send to the Big 12 office) because the most they will accept in protest is 10 clips

7. Said because he wasn't losing his mind with the team, the kids were confused after the game and asked if he was feeling okay

8. Had AMo there to talk about her viewpoint from the bench, since her accident. She said at one point, watching the Tech from her room back in Austin, she was so frustrated with the team she wanted to jump through her TV and get into the game

9. Near the end he said that if you know the history of the Southwest Conference and the Big 12, Baylor isn't Texas' biggest rival it's Tech. And he said you know that right after the loss Wed, the Tech coaches were on the phone with AAU and HS coaches dissing on Texas and pumping up the fact that they just beat us. He said he got feedback from two coaches about that later.

10. Added one thing in the middle of his speech. Talked about how basketball is all consuming with him and coaches. But yet things happen that make you realize that there's more to life sometimes. He said Bill Fennelly's mom passed away right after the team got back to Ames after Texa beat them.

You lose, you have to put up with this.

I saw this on Wed night but didn't want to post it. I bet Vic will be showing it to the team though. Its so hilarious how much it means to these clowns. We literally could give two s#@ts about any one victory from another in a regular season game. They are all important and just part of what's expected from a team that has been there before. This locker room celebration tells me they feel like this was a massive accomplishment and they obviously don't belong. What Krista should have said is, we knew we were going to do this and move on to the next one. Now she has to convince the team that the rest of the season actually matters.

Good Lord.

Coach Sandwitch is sure trying to make fetch happen regarding Vic. Shaking hands is a part of sportsmanship which is foreign to her but she’s trying real hard to create a narrative about Vic that doesn’t exist. She’s trash. Cannot imagine Marsha Sharp would ever act this way so she didn’t get it from her, Sharp was a class act no matter how intense the rivalry was back then.

I realize that some disagree with my earlier post about having to beat the refs… probably a little bitter on my part but a lopsided game like that is the exception and not the rule. They went to the line 30 times and we went there 6. That. Is. Not. Normal.

That said, we played a crappy game and Tech deserved the win.

As I was leaving and walking up the steps, I was passing Tech fans as they sang their school song. Good for them. As I went by, a grown *** man who should know better (not a student) turned his Gun (?) into a Horns down and waved it not just at me but actually in my face.

Never in my wildest dreams would I treat a visiting fan that way. I usually ask them if they enjoyed their visit and do they need a restaurant recommendation etc. etc. etc.

The Horns down means we live rent free in their heads. Half the time I don’t even know the hand gesture for the opposing team. Tech has an easy one to remember but I wouldn’t waste my time trying to figure out how to manipulate it into something else.

Call me out for being a sore loser or call it sour grapes if you want. But that kind of behavior is actually the definition of bad sportsmanship. Staying in a conference when you’ve outgrown it is bad business not poor sportsmanship.

The only thing bad about going to the SEC is dealing with Aggie fans again. I’ve been to Tennessee games, Georgia games and even a South Carolina game. Never had an issue with those fans. Just Aggie, Tech and Baylor. Those three have always been miserably green with envy living in our shadow.

Horns Up!

Agree. And the horns down thing is one thing, but used in the context of the handshake line is another example of truly poor sportsmanship. Sandwitch was the same as a player as she is now as a coach.
