Texas @ Stanford 11/14

JAT and Audrey are awesome. No one denies their amazing fight and awesome job at doing the hard stuff. But, I just don’t think they’re most effective when they’re taking on that large of an offensive role. In general, I think our offense is a little stale. But Lord, do we have some new spark plugs. Having shooters is awesome. Please. Yes. But we’ve got to facilitate the offense more.

This is a great win for the Horns. They should be celebrating huge off this tonight. Still so much work to do but you have to love how awesome this team grinds!!!

What a win in an otherwise ****** weekend for Horns sports!

^^^^This. JAT should definitely come off the bench.
I said it before the game even started. The shots she is taking are not even close to falling. I expected Vic to realize that and start Matharu. Have been a little disappointed with some of his minutes given out so far this season. We won though, so can’t complain too much. So proud of them. If Jo doesn’t come off the bench next game I will be very disappointed in him.

Short bench. I envision Vic will tinker with it against lessor opponents but stick to 8, 9 max down the stretch.

Awesome team win! I was telling a friend earlier this week to watch out for Matharu once she gets comfortable. JAT needs to seriously pull it together.
Offensively, JAT looked totally out of control, much like her freshman year. Perhaps she just needs to knock the rust off.

JAT and AW are great defensively. However our offense comes to a screeching halt in this dribble drive offense when they're both in the game. They are not ballers and can not create their own shot. Once Matharu and Hunter learn and adhere to lock down defense they'll start. This year or next year who knows.

JAT Looks lost. Pull her until she figures it out What’s her percentage the last couple games? Can’t be over 25/30.

Jo had a bad game today. Most of her shots came off of dribble drive, where they were blocked or she just ran into the defense. She should've realized that was happening early in the game. However, I would keep her as a starter for this young team. Her leadership is unquestionable.

I, too, am surprised at minutes distribution.

I’m not in charge so not saying it’s wrong just surprised. Surprised that Ebo played as much as she did and that Latasha didn’t play as much. And thought Hunter should’ve gotten more time. She made a bonehead play fouling on a three but still.

We’ve said it all before, but I don’t know how Audrey survives many games like this.

I just want our offense to have a bit more control on drives, put backs on offensive rebounds, and catching it in traffic under the hoop.

Loved what we saw from Moore!

Of course Rory and Aliyah were awesome.

i see what you’re saying, but JO is not an elite player. She was what we needed last year, but Aliyah Matharu is a G who can make real contributions to this team and has much more talent and upside. She’s played two full collegiate seasons and is just the better player in my opinion. She deserves a start right now. She’s a player good enough to lead a top raked Texas team, I jus don’t think jo is on her level. She was an Aston recruit, Aaliyah is a Vic recruit, that tells me everything I need to know. All of aliyahs shots were in rhythm and timely buckets when we needed them. Jo rushed hers and missed almost all of them.

Vic recruited Jo hard when he was at MSU. And maybe Vic likes Matharu coming off the bench as an energy player.

lol why is Jo getting so much bad talk?? Her shot selection was not good and she rushed a few things but it is the 2nd game of the season. Joanne will adjust just fine and get back to what she was last season she just needs to find her rhythm. She also provided us with great defense and intensity which contributed a lot in this game. Our defense looked great tonight for the most part so imagine what we will look like in March!!!! I would like to see more plays for Moore where she is back to the basket in a one on one type deal. She’s a bit out of control on the drive but can establish herself in the paint if everything just slowed down for a bit.

Very very impressed with Harmon as she has the potential to become the next Texas great. Matharu made the best decision by coming to play for Vic again. He just always brings out the best in his players and she showed up and showed out tonight on both sides of the ball. Right now I would put Matharu in the starting lineup over Jo as she has proved herself thus far.

While I agree with a lot you are saying, Vic recruited Joanne out of high school; he said as much the other night.

If I didn't know better, I would think we just dropped a blowout game to the National Champions. ON THE ROAD!

Gutty performance by all involved. Way to go Horns!

Remember we're facing the defending champions that return most of their team. Our 2nd game, we don't have an identity yet. This may be one of those "ugly" games I posted about a couple of weeks ago.
Just want Vic to come out of this one with some answers he's looking for and maybe find a leader.
I think we did that and got the W to boot!

I loathe this guard basket weaving offense. Drives me knots. And we run it in SS LLLOOWWW MMOOOTTIIOON
And we're terrible at it because Rori is the only guard that can attack the basket aggressively and score.
We have the dumbest offensive schemes! SMH:brickwall:

Heck yeah! UPSET ALERT! LONGHORNS take down Stanford!
But I thought our offense stunk and the coaches don't know what they are doing, running it in slow motion.

Great win. Thought the offense could exploit the slowness earlier with our quickness but we did it in the 4th. We are a match up nightmare for teams like that. We guard them so hard they have no space to run the offense.

Can Schaefer coach the football team too?
Yep. I was asking for the motion that Vic was running early on but he found the weaknesses of Stanford using Matharu with the high ball screens. It forced Stanford to make a decision to switch and force Jones to try to guard Matharu in space.

We won!

We won a game on a Top 5 team's home court!

We won this game because our head coach outcoached their Hall of Fame and 3-time national championship head coach! He put his players in a position to win.

Huge RPI/SOS win.

Huge publicity win as we'll be talked about in the media all after/evening.

Huge recruiting win as national players were watching on ESPN; hopefully Maggie Mendelson and Breya Cunningham were watching.

Huge confidence-building win for our young, inexperienced players/team.

Watching Rori Harmon and Aliyah Matharu on the court together reminds me of the those scary back court duos at Louisiana Tech back in the day.

I agree with all those who stated that Joanne Allen-Taylor is not playing well offensively after 2 games. Personally I think she is stressing over being a senior and having to be a leader (captain?) on this team; not everyone is cut out for that type of role.

On the court, she is trying to play too fast. She seems to be slipping forward a lot on her dribble drives to the basket. She shot 3-16 overall, and 0-2 from beyond the arc. No trips to the free throw line. She had 4 rebounds, 2 steals, and only 2 turnovers.

But, she played 37 tough minutes. So, that tells me she's playing good/hard enough for Vic right now.
