Maybe start the game with five players on the floor who are tough enough and skilled enough for their positions???
But you're right... make a few wide open, high percentage shots and it's a competitive game
 
Coach should start teaching offense like he teaches defense and taking charges. Everyone knows if you shut down Booker we have zero offense. And if you have a solid defense our Bob and weave dump it to the big offense doesn't work. SMH!
 
I wouldn't even give a presser after this game if I were Vic. He's just going to say it was his fault, not having them ready, etc. Just a few days before, he said they would be ready. Even he could not have prepared for the lack of scoring. Texas' chance at national recognition gone by the wayside for a while. Perhaps the sinking in rankings and tournament seed will give Texas something to play for in the future.
 
I didn’t think Texas could win this game in Columbia, but I honestly thought it would be a 7 to 9 point loss. If it could go wrong, it went wrong today. I’m glad we get another crack at em in Austin.

The good news is it gives those fans that love to discuss anything and everything that’s wrong with this team including the coaching staff a chance to frenzy feed for a day or so. Overlooking the fact of course it’s only the 2nd loss of the season and both losses will be against a Top 3 team on the road, the whole season has been a failure and the rest will be too. A fantasy come true for the doom and gloomers and couch coaches to be sure. The sky is falling y’all!

The thing is, this type of woeful shooting and SC's pristine shooting won't happen again. Feels like no way.

Like I wasn't upset with how we played but definitely how we shot. There has to be some finishing.

And, even though D was okay and they just shot incredibly, you've got to turn up the intensity there.

Other than AMo's second foul and maybe a few isolated things, this wasn't a ref issue.

I don't think they played soooo amazing. We just shot that bad. Not all of that was because of them.
 
The box score says it all... shows just how close we were STATISTICALLY to making it a really close game. The film will back up the box score, and I'm sure several players will cringe after they watch it.

They made four more shots than us, we had 28 more attempts than them. They made two more three pointers than us, and seven more free throws. We only had 12 turnovers, but turned them over 22 times.

Where we got dominated was during critical moments of the game. We had numerous chances to get back into the game, but each time missed easy shots. To start the third quarter we had a couple of chances to cut it to 10, but then had offensive foul turnovers on two consecutive possessions.

When you have opportunities to get back in the game and miss easy wide open shots, or turn the ball over, those things kill what little momentum you've established. To South Carolina's credit, when we blew opportunities to cut into the lead they turned around and hit a shot to extend it.

I'm afraid the occasion might have been too big for us RIGHT NOW. It'll be a different story in Austin. This is why I was glad when I saw them on our schedule twice.

I almost never say this, but this one was on Vic. He should have sat Booker and played Harmon and Preston. He also should have brought Oldacre back in sooner. When shots aren’t falling to the degree that they weren’t falling, you change up everything to see if you can get a different energy on the floor.

I hate losing, but we actually played well today. We held SC way below their average. While we shot well below ours, it wasn’t anything SC was doing. Shots selection was excellent. We simply were off… way off.

Losing to #2 doesn’t hurt us. And as far as I can tell, the film is going to show our ladies just how beatable SC really is. I think the next match up is going to be a different story.

I think the team and especially Booker should get on that plane and forget this game in its entirety. Let the coaches dissect and fuss over the details. The players just need to move forward.

Agree. They played so well against Bama, and I expected that game to be much closer. Most coaches are hesitant to sub a star, but Booker clearly has something weird going on. We have real depth now, we should use it. Lots of games ahead, but we can't lay an egg like that again without hurting our seed. W play at Miss State and LSU, correct? Crowds will be rocking - against us.

Lucky for us, LSU plays us in Austin. I would be worried about A&M, but a) they don’t get up for WBB and b) they really suck this year. Mississippi State will be a tough road game.

Ryan Ruocco and Rebecca Lobo are good announcers,IMHO. Both said lots of nice things about Booker and Texas, but we continued to miss shots and foul, not giving them any thing more to say. They want to keep viewers interested, even when one team is playing poorly. And, you never know what might happen. Pitt came back from 32 points down to beat SMU today ... a feat we could not do.

We play at Mississippi State but have LSU at home, thankfully. I agree regarding Booker. Vic should have sat her and let Preston go. All games are learning experiences— for players and coaches.
 
Just to point out my thinking…

SC only made 4 more shots than we made. We took 28 more and Booker took the vast majority,

Jones played 20 minutes with no points and 2 rebounds. Oldacre played 20 minutes with 11 points and 16 rebounds,

Preston played 13 minutes with 7 points while Booker played 34 minutes with 7 points.

Harmon only had one foul but she only played 27 minutes.

From my vantage point, we were super cold and Vic froze.

I doubt it happens again. My favorite thing about Vic is that his teams always get better as the season progresses.

Texas is capable of being victorious against any opponent on the schedule. This one got away early and should be used as a motivating factor from here on out that we’re not going to play like this again.
Put it behind us and get back to what you love. Winning!!
