Agree. I am expecting somewhere between 65 and 75 wins. It all depends when the pitching (starting and BP) crashes. I picked at least 100 losses last season but little did I know some the competition would be tanking in excess of the Rangers.I will be shocked and pleasantly surprised if they win more than 70.
Ride it for as long as they can. I fear an ugly crash as Texas would be 0-3 if the Cubs had a bullpen. Houston at 1-3 will be an interesting series this week. Two in a row - guess that qualifies as a "winning streak!"
Nice start to season, but I keep telling myself to wait 30-40, even 50 games in and see where they are before I get too excited or invested. Every team has good runs and the fact that rangers are having one to start season doesn't change all of the inherent flaws on this team. If May 31 rolls around and they are still over .500 then I will start letting myself get excited about this team.
Good point, Mr. Deez. I'm not sure the rotation has a lot of room to improve, but it would help a bunch if they can just stay healthy. I don't want to see JD have to reach into the farm system to bring up a starter who's not major-league-ready - too much risk of ruining him for the future. There are enough mediocre starters in the league that they could bash their way to 70 wins if their own pitching improves.
The game was closer than it should have been as the Texas 3, 4 and 5 hitters were a combined 1 for 11 with one walk (3 K's by Gallo in his first 3 at bats). Leclerc has the "stuff", but it is madding to see him at times either unable to hit the strike zone or keep the ball away from the batter. Uncomfortable with the catcher? Sounds like over thinking.Rangers win 5-4 tonight. Not a thing of beauty by Leclerc, but he got it done in the ninth. That completes the sweep of the Angels. Day off Thursday, then Houston is in for the weekend - sure would be nice to take 2 of 3 from the Astros.
JD will have to be very careful if he uses this approach. Seems like the front office has been pointing to a competitive team to open the new stadium in 2020. The only valid reason to trade Minor and/or Leclerc would be to get multiple major-league-ready pitching prospects - and the teams that have such prospects would not want to trade them if they're "major-league-ready."Already seeing rumblings that Rangers are looking to move Minor and Leclerc to vet prospects. Even a better than expected start is not impacting the dump everything and start over philosophy for this season.
Agree. Also agree with FW's still 70+ loss season. JD is going to have to pill a couple of rabbits out of whatever hat he wears or the attendance in the second half of 2020 is going to be bad which will be the end of JD.JD will have to be very careful if he uses this approach. If JD trades them for the next level of available pitching prospects, it would effectively give up on 2020 - and I'm not sure the fan base would want to buy in on that approach.
My opinion - I think the Rangers ride this team out, at least until the All-Star break, to see what happens. If the team is a bit better than middle-of-the-pack, that would argue for extending Minor and Leclerc, not trading them.
