Texas @ Ole Miss 01/26/2025

From the very beginning of the game I saw the fatigue that I was worried would be present. The three games against really good teams in a short span, the travel involved, the physicality of the last two games, and the number of minutes players like Harmon and Booker had to play against Tennessee is very taxing both physically and mentally. Tired legs typically equal missed shots that normally get knocked down.

Coach Vic, we love you but come on man! If you can have Preston and Lee in at the end of a game like this against a tough physical defense, then you can trust them a whole lot earlier. The box score may not show it, but both of those freshmen were factors down the stretch in coming from behind and taking that W. You've gotta play them earlier and play them more!

Big shout out to Taylor Jones again... She ought to be named SEC player of the week. Coming into this season I was worried about how she would match up in the SEC. She has really gotten a lot tougher and more aggressive... Proud of her and happy for her. Keep it up TJ!

Another big shout out to Jak. She played poised, aggressive, and made good decisions throughout the game. Happy to see her earn this type of PT.

I'm not sure what's up with Carlton, but it doesn't give me a good feeling. Everyone knows if you're going to play for Vic (or any other coach at a top program) you're going to have to play hard and give 100%...100% of the time in games and in practice. Short of an injury or illness, that's the only thing I can think of keeping her off the floor. She's such a talented player... hope whatever the situation is gets resolved.

This game was a serious gut check and I'm glad we passed it! 🤘
I think Justice is a little banged up. Nothing about her game thus far would merit benching. Even when her shot wavered she was still on the floor with good hands and feet. I didn't think high school really tested her repaired knee like this freshman season has. Maybe its a bit sore.
I have no inside knowledge...just my hope.

I'm "hopeful" (which feels weird to say about that, though) as well. I think Justice is a natural replacement for Moore.

Just my 2 cents but its ridiculous that we basically play 7-8 players. We are stacked with McDonalds all americans and they cannot get better on the bench. You cannot exhaust the top7 and expect them to last all season. Coach them and play them.

Please name the healthy all-Americans on the Texas roster not getting minutes? Look more carefully at the roster. If I factor in injuries, the roster is not that deep. Justice is the only available high school anll-American I see on the roster but not much on the game floor. And we as fans may not know why. But even some very talented freshmen take time to adjust. Not all freshmen are Harmon, Booker, or Jordan Lee.

Remember that backhanded...you can't even say compliment....backhanded insult Mulkey said about Texas having a bench full of McDonald All Americans (and still losing to Baylor)? That's the nature of the beast. Yeah, they were "crowned" McDonald AA, but when they show up on campus, they may not be as good as the other AA starters.

The time for development is at the beginning of the season when we're playing a directional Louisiana school.

The only player not getting quality minutes is Codio and I have no idea what’s going on there. Phelia is indeed injured. Carlton has played in 21 of the 22 games, averaging 14 minutes. She has looked a bit slow in her last few. It makes me wonder if she didn’t give herself enough rehab time after her ACL injury in HS. If I’m not mistaken, she had the surgery in July and was back playing for her team in January. She might be paying for that now. Or it simply could be a conditioning thing. That said, I’m always happy to see her in the game. She finds ways to contribute.

I would love to see Preston get more minutes, but not at the expense of Harmon.

What I would like to see is Lee and Preston playing more minutes earlier. Holle gives 150% at all times, but she does not possess 2 guard skills on either side of the ball. That presents two-way limitations and challenges from tip off.

I'd rather see Lee start at the 2, and have Preston relieving both Rori and her. There are some important things that the different combinations of Harmon, Lee, and Preston can provide offensively and defensively.

Slide Shay back where she belongs at the 3 as a backup to Booker. That way Booker has some quality backup and can get a breather with another good and experienced player filling in.

We're getting ready to run into a stretch of four consecutive games against ranked teams. We're not going to get through that thinking that Booker and Rori can play 38 and 40 minutes every night and still be able to perform at their highest levels. Then there will be the SEC tournament playing on consecutive days.

This is not the Big 12.
It's different... way different.

With all of Vic's mismanagement of playing time, I can't figure out how we are 20-2.

Nobody said anything about the team being mismanaged... but nobody is beyond reproach either. Coaches get questioned all the time about their decisions. It comes with the territory. That said, I wouldn't want anybody else coaching our team but Vic.

Kind of ironic that a smart-*** comment would come from someone who has posted some of the most idiotic things on this board.

I get your position and totally agree. However, I think Vic would be a hard sell to change since he went through 7 ranked games with this line up.
