Texas @ Ole Miss 01/26/2025

Very good game. I like that fact that it wasn't pretty. But we did what all championship teams do...we figured it out. Great job Ladies!:bevo:

With Madi having an off day Taylor was HUGE! I mean HUGE!!

And can Brenda VanSucklen suck any worse. When the score was 56-51 she said Ole Miss up by 6. And she said Ole Miss had a 7 pt lead in the 4th. NO, they had an 8 pt. lead.

Downright gutty win. Even Vic had to gut it out and call for more zone defense than he has in his entire career altogether.

I know it didn’t look like it, but it was as good a win as we’ve had all year considering the circumstances. Also, I can only imagine how gut wrenching it is for A-Mo to have to watch from the bench.

We out rebounded them by 10 including 5 more offensive rebounds and we dominated in the paint 32-16. And while I know it felt like Booker had an off game… she had 12 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, and 3blocks. That is a stellar line even if it’s not Booker-worthy. Her final basket and final steal won the game. I think even Vic is shocked that we won. That was simply gutsy. We were running on empty against a team with a full tank.

And how about Ndjakalenga playing 24 mins and scoring 8 pts today?
Only two turnovers in those 24 minutes is what impressed me about Jak today. Things have started to click for her in 2025 it would seem.

EDIT: my mistake Jak had no turnovers. Great job today!

And her partner in crime (with that annoying voice) referred to Jak as a freshman more than once throughout the game.

From the very beginning of the game I saw the fatigue that I was worried would be present. The three games against really good teams in a short span, the travel involved, the physicality of the last two games, and the number of minutes players like Harmon and Booker had to play against Tennessee is very taxing both physically and mentally. Tired legs typically equal missed shots that normally get knocked down.

Coach Vic, we love you but come on man! If you can have Preston and Lee in at the end of a game like this against a tough physical defense, then you can trust them a whole lot earlier. The box score may not show it, but both of those freshmen were factors down the stretch in coming from behind and taking that W. You've gotta play them earlier and play them more!

Big shout out to Taylor Jones again... She ought to be named SEC player of the week. Coming into this season I was worried about how she would match up in the SEC. She has really gotten a lot tougher and more aggressive... Proud of her and happy for her. Keep it up TJ!

Another big shout out to Jak. She played poised, aggressive, and made good decisions throughout the game. Happy to see her earn this type of PT.

I'm not sure what's up with Carlton, but it doesn't give me a good feeling. Everyone knows if you're going to play for Vic (or any other coach at a top program) you're going to have to play hard and give 100%...100% of the time in games and in practice. Short of an injury or illness, that's the only thing I can think of keeping her off the floor. She's such a talented player... hope whatever the situation is gets resolved.

This game was a serious gut check and I'm glad we passed it! 🤘

And one of them said, "...and Jones played 3 years at Oregon State and just transferred in last year"

Total lack of research on the part of the announcers.

Reading that the Tenn coach was dealing with flu (and birth) and that the team hasn’t met the baby yet because so many of them are dealing with the flu too. Considering we played them 4 days ago, we might have flu issues as well. You really just never know what’s going on in the locker room or why someone doesn’t get minutes.

I was thrilled that Jak was ready to step in and do her job and play well. Although it has been mentioned she turned the ball over only twice, the box score shows that she and Brianna both had zero turnovers. In either case, we obviously couldn't have done without her scoring. I also agree with others who had hoped we might see Brianna earlier. When our starters were dragging, she was far more likely to have fresher legs after playing less minutes this last week, and she can terrorize other teams with her speed and willingness to take it to the hoop or provide a lot of on-ball defensive harassment. Again, while I would have liked to see her earlier, I think she was the extra little energy nudge that we needed to push over the top for the win in those final minutes. I love this team, and that was such a tough game to not lose after a long week. I think they surely showed the toughness that Vic always asks them to have. I love it. I love it a lot.

My bad, I looked at the wrong column Jak had zero turnovers and I’m really glad you pointed it out. That’ll teach me to not look at stats on my phone instead of iPad
Thanks again!

I rewatched the game because it was so stressful to watch it live. I had forgotten that we never led by more than 3. I gotta say, it was still kind of stressful rewatching it. And the refs were still horrible. :smile1:

I think the one thing that I don't see discussed, and it indeed it may be discussed here every day and I simply miss it, is Vic's tenure at Hail State. The transition to the S-E-C has been seamless. The is familiar with the officiating in the League and I imagine that is stressed every day in practice. Basketball like the last couple have been absolute chess matches, and Vic was NOT playing checkers. His team was SEC ready from Day One.

Another CDC home run.

These ESPN announcers all think they can just “wing it”. It seems they never do their homework in preparation and are not neutral in their observations. But, it’s ESPN, and if it’s not UCONN on the floor, they don’t really care.
