Texas @ Mississippi State 02/27/25

Good adjustments by Vic during the half. Better adjustments by Vic between 3rd and 4th quarters. Winning games like these is great. Shows that the team isn't just a 2-star team.

And LSU lost in overtime to Alabama. That is the cherry on top.

Good to see others step up when needed. That’s the mark of a good team.
Opponents seem to have a new strategy..play zone to stop our inside game.
That hasn’t worked so well for the last two teams we’ve played.
Actually, I would say it did work well. They almost beat the #1 team. I don’t know how they could’ve done better. Texas was a big favorite. Simply put, MSU has been about the worst match-up Texas has had all season. They actually have bigs taller and more athletic than Texas. Bye bye big game from Jones. Sagging zone to take away the roll & pick and sag out to double Madison. That worked and she also had an off night. Take away Rori’s mid range, that worked perfect. All that leaves the other players openings and you certainly don’t expect Jak and Shay to get hot. And that’s something that hasn’t happened all season so it was a good strategy. Fortunately, Jak and Shay did get hot or it’s a L, and Rori hitting the 3’s.

They also had a good offensive strategy. Take advantage of Vic’s stubbornness with the Man to Man with roll and pick’s and feed their posts with cuts to the basket. That worked because Taylor and Kyla didn’t have to quickness to stay with their bigs. Add to it they had a few 3’s that were wow shots too. At least they were much higher than their season average so you have to say it was an abnormality. The only thing they could have asked for was for Texas to have a normal night from 3. If that had happened it’s a L for Texas. So actually I would say it was a great strategy that almost worked out against the #1 team.

I don’t know why they have lost so many SEC games, but their talent says they’re better than their record.

Mississippi State has been a really up and down team... beat Auburn by 40, beat Vandy, blew out Ags, barely lost to OU, but have some head scratching losses. When they're good, they're really good... when they're bad, they're really bad.

It tells me Jak is becoming an integral part of the team in AMo's absence, and it tells me some people still have no faith.
To clarify, I was not berating Jak. She had a fantastic game. At the time, my comment was meant to point out that others were not firing on all cylinders at the time. Jak has really blossomed her junior year. She actually was able to get to the basket when others did not. It was a game saver!

Good game. I watched it from 11 pm to ending last night WITHOUT knowing the results. Bad mistake. Too stressful. Then couldn’t sleep until 3 am. This team is entertaining. Horns have played a lot of close late games. Experience sure helps at the ends. Hope it continues.

I did not get to watch (probably better for nerves)
What kind of reception did the MSU fans give Vic?
Can't wait for the presser.
Love this team that NEVER quits.

A good win against a very good team at their venue. Shay and Jak both had great games on both offense and defense. Rory and Madison had ok games, but I thought they appeared very tired in the 4th quarter because they didn't have rest time in the 3rd quarter. Rory, especially, seemed to make some uncharacteristic mistakes toward the end of the game. On the other hand, this could have been only a one point win if Rory had not swished a half court shot at the end of the 3rd quarter. What impressed me about Jak is her length on defense. I think she blocked a couple shots from their 6'6" - 6'7" centers with her long wing span.

Losing Moore for such a long time would normally have been a big blow for the Horns, however the blow has been softened as we see how Jak has matured, becoming more confident and comfortable resulting in her good production. As she seems be be very comfortable and confident in her role, Vic and the team exempify their confidendence in her. Seeing how effective she, Jordan and Preston have been provides confidence for the next few years. It will be good to see Carlton at 100%.

When Jak was a freshman, I preached about her need to get stronger. She was playing high school ball and getting bullied by just about everybody. As a Soph, she was noticeably stronger, but still not where she needed to be. Now, while she still gets tied up on occasion (as does everybody), she doesn't easily get stripped of rebounds. When she cradles the ball on a drive, it doesn't get knocked away.

Seeing her physical development these last three years stands as a great testimony to Zack Zillner, and also to Jak's own tenacity, patience, and drive to get better.

During the Presser, Coach revealed his continuing love for the school and the state of Mississippi. I think if any other school besides UT had come calling he would likely still be there.

Had never heard Jak speak before. I was impressed about how well spoken and thoughtful she was in her comments. Holle and Rory as well. I appreciated how concerned they all were when Coach got emotional but mature enough to give him time to regain control.

I'm not much of a sentimentalist, so I probably could have skipped the first 2/3rds. It left me wondering how he ever made the decision to leave. Guess it's good he and his wife will have the farm to return to when his coaching career is over.
