Texas @ Maryland 01/20/25

I've been watching Texas WBB since the year Today started. I'm just gonna say it -- Booker is the best player Texas has ever had. Lots of other greats, but none quite like her. Maybe Clarissa Davis before she had her knee injury. I'm glad she didn't get two fouls and have to go out.

Same and same.

That was truly remarkable. We humiliated them. Took the lead with an opening 3 and then never looked back. The closest they were was 6-5 three minutes in and then we pulled away and kept pulling. Stunning

Gosh, what a wonderfully complete game. They not only played well; they seemed to really be enjoying the moment. More of this Thursday, please! Short turnaround, but at least they'll be home.

All I can say is WOW... That's the team I expect us to be. Having said that, I didn't see this blowout coming even with us playing at such a high level. Our defense was very disruptive to them. Great team win all the way around. Here's the box score... It's the 20 assists for me!

I have always quietly been a fan of Ndjakalenga. Just been hoping she could eliminate the mental stuff. I know she has the type of length/height Coach likes.

Needed this today.

We looked like a very well coached team, playing to their potential.
Game ball to Booker Jak!
I am a big Jak fan, and I feel like she played like a true upper classman today that could be counted on to come in for Aliyah when she had foul trouble and maintain the level of hustle defense we had to have near the rim, grab some contested rebounds, and overall play with poise. This is not always the case for her, but this season it has been the case more than it has not, with some exceptions. Her length is an enormous advantage for us on defense, and when she shoots within the offense she has a nice jump shot and can usually be counted on to hit her free throws. She did a great job today doing what the team needed from her, and she helped ensure the momentum continued at the end of the first and throughout the second quarter when Aliyah had to sit. Way to go Jak, game well played!

I’m glad Dallas is the only market that has moved it to a local station. I’m sure one of the main reasons to play in this game is national exposure
I appreciate the heads up! That's how I was able to find it on the alternative Fox channel in my area through YouTube TV.

Lots of Jak and no Justice. Strange after Jak just barely played the last game or so. She's looking good.
I really like Carlton and expect great things out of her, she is so gifted with ability. But until she finds another gear and another level of intensity, this is what it's going to look like.

Thanks for posting this presser, brnkj. Those three seem to have such great relationships. I love Rory saying, "I don't know what other coaches are doing, but we do it better." Such a tribute to Vic and his coaches. Vic's remark, "Yea, we might not take a lot of three's, but we don't have to" verifies what we already know -- that he doesn't really like the three very much. Well, I know the likes them when they go in, but I don't think he would ever incorporate them heavily into one of his offenses the way many coaches do today. (Makes me worry a little about recruiting great three point shooters.). But I am not complaining about a single thing today. Whatever he does is working pretty darned well. On to the Vols.

I don’t know which of the assistants is Jak’s position coach but whatever they have been doing with her is working. It seemed Jak turned a corner in this game. She played slow and steady and did not rush as she had been, didn’t just throw the ball up as soon as it hit her hands but looked for her shot and was more in control of herself. We know she had the skills or Vic would not have recruited her. Glad to see her playing up to her potential finally and hope she can keep it up.

What a wonderful high…….after such a dreadful low after SC game. Every game is so much different. SC…..couldn’t press. Maryland…..could press. Tennessee……think we will press even though Tennessee is fast with good guard play. Half court D is always tremendous. It’s mostly about matchups and how to attack. Keep improving and let’s see how Schaefer learned to play SC …..and then LSU. All these games provide information to staff. I’m with Harmon on the coaches do a better job than most at getting their team better as the year goes along. Yes….laid an egg against SC…..and didn’t play well against ND. Both games at their places. We’ll know after the next 3 weeks if this team has what it takes to get to Final Four. I think they do. Hook ‘Em!

In the first half, Jak drastically outperformed Moore.

To be fair, AMo came on in the second half and looked much better against a demoralized Maryland squad.

I’m loving how Texas players have been going out of their way to praise the coaching staff (if you listened to the pregame interview with Shay, she positively gushed about her experience playing for Vic and his staff). If I wanted to sound like a better person, I’d talk more about how happy I am for the players (of course I am.) But I also am thinking how the players apparent genuine enthusiasm about their experience might help recruiting.

Yes, I am excited about the next few weeks. Most of the games that look most challenging on paper are at home.

Couldn't agree more. Since conference play started, she looks flat-footed, slow, and unsure of herself. Guess all those nonconference blowouts lulled her into a false sense of big girl basketball confidence. Hopes she says, "oh, I get this now," and moves on to great things.

I am a super optimist about this Texas WBB team. So, I’m hoping Carlton adjusts this season. I’m looking for another breakout scoring game when we least expect it.

You think Vic making me talking directly with Chavez?? It's a pretty good pitch!
