Texas makes annual trek to Lubbock Sat.

I want to brag on Tasia. She got some really good minutes and played under control the best I can remember at this point. I never felt like she was a turnover or bad shot (rushed) waiting to happen. Always feel good about her cat quick defense

Definitely one of Tasia's best games. Did a lot of good things tonight and didn't force anything.

76-55, good solid win in a place that has been weird for the Horns.
Time to get ready for Senior Night.
Man, that's so sad. Every year, hate to see our seniors playing their last home game.
But it has been a great run this year and it is still not over.

Not over by a long shot

I understand Higgs has a lot to learn, but the way she's being treated... I don't get it.. AT ALL. Guess you'd have to be an insider to understand? Again, painfully reminiscent...

You never know the whole story. There could be many reasons (and not necessarily as negative as you might think). She's had many opportunities, so I'm not sweating it for her. I don't understand questioning the coaches decision in this situation quite frankly. I trust their reasoning especially at 25-2. Why assume she's being "treated" unfairly when you know the coaches have the best interest of the TEAM in mind about playing time.

I agree. I only mentioned the practice thing because I can't come up with another explanation. I don't go to practices, but I get emails about them. If you go, you aren't supposed to comment on them. I guess if you want to be an insider, you'd have to attend the practices.

Uhmmm. Maybe I have the wrong player, but isn't her dad one of the coaches on staff? I would imagine she's not being treated badly.

Exactly! Furthermore, I refuse to believe that any player would be "treated" badly in the Longhorn family. I'm more than confident the coaches make sure each player knows exactly what is expected of them.

It would be detrimental to the team to mistreat any player, so the inference is annoying to me as a fan.

Funny that no one is complaining about Jordan not getting enough playing time. Jordan has gotten into one more game than LaShann. LaShann averages 9.1 mpg to Jordan's 8.9 mpg. Other than LaShann having 11 steals to Jordan's 3 and averaging 4.0 ppg to Jordan's 3.0 ppg, their stats are very similar.

Both also have very experienced players ahead of them, although Jordan has less than LaShann. Both are still learning to play within a new system and getting playing time to go with their practice reps.

I understand that LaShann can be spectacular at times on offense, which probably is the reason we want her on the court more but neither she nor Jordan are needed to jump in and try to carry the team like Tech's Dean is. I expect continued improvement in their play the rest of the games this season and a big leap next year for both.

Don't get so defensive about the Higgs thing. I simply said I don't understand -- meaning FROM THE OUTSIDE LOOKING IN. I have no complaint with the way this season is going amd never would have thought we'd be 25-2. In fact I'm extremely impressed with what Aston & Co have done with only three of their own recruiting classes on the team (aside from the Jucos brought in). It's only going to get better IMO with the recruits coming in and the inevitable recruiting successes to come.
I realize Higgs is having some serious growing pains and I'm confident the staff will develop her through them. I also realize that in order for us to reach the next level (like beating Baylor, etc) we've gotta have players like her. I didn't say anything about Hosey because I was referring to the way Higgs has been benched LATELY, so someone looking at a stat sheet and comparing the number of games each has played in over the course of the season is ridiculous.
I said I suppose you need to be an insider to know the whole story. Being that I have no desire to be an "insider" means that the situation must not be MEANT for me to understand. None of this makes me any less of a fan. In fact, unless you've been following the team prior to 1980 I've got "fan seniority," and yes some things LOOK PAINFULLY REMINISCENT.

Maybe if you hadn't used the phrased "being treated".... Very negative connotation towards the coaching staff (and in my opinion unwarranted), so I'm glad you backed away a bit.

We're probably about even on "seniority" btw

Higgs is an interesting case. Maybe the staff calculates she probably won't be used much in NCAA Tournament games, so they are limiting her minutes and concentrating on the cadre of players they figure they will need. Hosey fits into that cadre a little better than Higgs, because they don't need Hosey to score, just give the front line players a few minutes of breather time. Again, Higgs is interesting. It's mainly her poor shooting that's held her back, in my opinion. She plays defense pretty well, and she passes well, too. She'd be a scoring machine if she had a dependable jump shot. But even her drives to the basket are handicapped by lack of shooting skill. On the other hand, Brooke McCarty has elevated her game tremendously in the second half of the season. Even at 5'3", she has become a terrific driver to the hoop; but McCarty has something Higgs lacks---that little floater she can launch from 5-6 feet away. McCarty doesn't have to get it past the big trees under the basket. She can float it over them, which makes a huge difference. She can also hit the pull-up. So many times I've seen Higgs make a brilliant drive, wiggle through 2-3 defenders, then crash into the last big girl under the backboard and miss the shot. McCarty avoids that. Incidentally, I think Arial Atkins has a great floater, too, or used to. In the McDonald's All American game, she scored two or three baskets on beautiful drives that climaxed in finger tip floaters from 5-8 ft out. Travis Mays described them as "NBA type shots." She never does it in games now, even though her offense has been terrific. Maybe because she has to play the 4 or 3 most of the time.

Well, Higgs was getting a lot more playing time early in the season than now. Perhaps it was due to Ariel be unavailable. Will be interesting to see how she is used in the Big 12 tourney as we will hopefully be playing 3 games in 3 days.

Babhorn, just want you to know how much I appreciate your analysis before each game. I would guess it takes considerable time and effort to develop the information and get it posted. I've learned a lot from reading them. Thank you.
Ditto!! You are awesome!!

well, the stats I provided are conference stats, not season stats. Not much difference in the amount of time played nor in the number of conference games played in.

Realistically, they (LsShann and Jordan) are playing the same amount of time in the same number of conference games. Both still make rookie mistakes but, again, that should smooth out with experience.

And if we are looking at time spend following the team, been doing it since fall 1979 when I transferred to UT.

addon: got to remember that most fans are kinda old. Most of us have been following the team for a very long time.

Look... let's get some thimgs real clear:

1) I really don't post my observations/opinions for the approval of others. Hopefully they don't post for mine either.
2) While giving the coaching staff credit for the outstanding job they've done in turning this program around, I NEVER ONCE CHANGED MY STANCE. Attempting to clarify my statements to calm another's hyper-sensitivity does not equate to "backing off." I still say that benching Higgs until the last four minutes of the game has PUNISHMENT written all over it. Again, I don't understand because I don't know the inside story... and don't care to. I can't imagine that it was done for no good reason. But it IS reminiscent of the old days. Nuff said.

3) Glad to know there are still some other loyal long-time fans still supporting the team. Never thought I was Fan #1 and, again, don't care to be. But my 36 seasons entitles me to my own opinion about my observations.
4) Other than the mediator, none of us has the authority to regulate what others say, or how they say it. It might serve us all well to remain mindful of that.
5) If throwing a rock behind the scenes then hiding your hand on public message boards is your thing, then more power to you. However, that's not my style. I'm one to govern myself by the motto "Say what you mean and mean what you say, or STFU."

Everyone have a good evening.

Now you use "punishment" which is not only negative towards the coaching staff, but assumes the player did something wrong. You don't know diddly about the decision.

I'm not approving or disapproving of your comments, I simply disagreeing with them. Is that clear? I think I've been pretty upfront with my comments as well.

Sorry you're having some sort of flashbacks....

You don't get it, do you? I give less than half a damn about what you think about my posts. You FINALLY got some understanding at least... I said I didn't understand the decision because I didn't know the reason for it... AND DON'T CARE TO. You don't get to tell me how to express my opinions. In fact... shut up already. Go have some warm milk to rest your nerves and go to bed.

Well I've not told you to shut up anything other than disagree with you. Maybe you should chill.

Perhaps it's something as simple as Higgs not having good practices...or having lost focus and confidence......I don't think, in any way, it has to do with punishment. I'm assuming she's in a freshman rut and can't get out of it. Who knows! Perhaps she'lll get some good minutes soon, play well, and get her confidence back. She sure has athletic abilities and could help this team down the road.
