Texas @ IowaSt. WBB (2/13/23)

I mean realistically they need to get some looks for Shaylee. It’s odd that she’s been such a non-factor this game.

This has to be the worst shooting I've seen this team do this year. It's getting to where every time I see a shot go up I just expect it to be a miss.

I’m a dude and try to make no excuses for my girls that I coach but in order for the wbb game to grow the unconscious bias of foul calls has to go away in the women’s game. These little bump fouls and phantom calls are outrageous to watch and if I was a red I would be embarrassed at the game I called tonight. Fen nose is getting his way tonight. We didn’t play good but this has to stop if people want the wbb game to grow. QUIT CALLING FOULS YOU WOULDNT CALL ON MEN!!!!

This.

We win this game with Sonya who is our main zone buster. Shaylee passed up some shots that I think she should have taken earlier in the game that would have softened it up.
This loss doesn’t bother me that much. We need to win in Norman.
Typical whining ISU crowd I don’t think we’ll face any delicate flower teams in the SEC.
The refs were crappy what else can you say? Crappy

IowaSt. had lost 3 straight, got us at their place and without the player who was our leading scorer for most of the season. We got 22 more shots tonight that they did. 22! That's how poor we shot it and still only lost by 5. Plus refs clearly wore red and yellow today. Despite all of that, we were still in the game at the end. We need to get back and get healthy during this bye week. We can still win our first regular season conference championship in 20 years but we will likely have to win out including at oU to do it.

We have to be better at shutting down the three than we have been in our last couple of games. And for the love of man, we need to hit our free throws! Here’s hoping that Vic still has Bill’s number.
You nailed it. We didn't do either of those tonight.

There's just no excuse for only getting 4 points from Jones, 4 points from Faye, and 9 points from Gaston against an Iowa State who is so weak in the front court. Gaston has typically lit up ISU.

Offense is so hard for this team.

Four point game with 3:20 to go please go on with how bad the team is playing and being out coached

A lot of the posters that were about to jump off the ledge and given up on the season after TX Tech now seem to think we're South Carolina. Anyone that thought we were going undefeated the rest of the season was delusional.
I stated weeks ago that the regular season champion will have 3-4 losses. And we're there.

I'm going to focus more on our comeback without one of our top scorers.
It was a bad shooting night. It happens. Unfortunately we don't have 4-5 shooters on the bench that can take up the slack.

Y’all there’s some positives in this game and here’s a few.

Jak put in a good 20 minutes and scored 10 points and 5 rebounds and was much more under control. Mina snatched 11 rebounds. ONLY 11 turnovers. 22 offensive rebounds. 12 steals. It was a one possession game with 2:54 left in the game.

Still 0.5 game ahead of OU and 2.5 ahead of ISU and OK St and 3 ahead of Baylor. We control our own destiny currently.

I forgot the game was tonight. Sounds like I didn’t miss much. It recorded though so I might watch it tomorrow or I might not.

This loss didn’t bother me too much. I really wanted the win, but wasn’t too surprised at the outcome. Road game with 48 hour turnaround. Against a good team. ISU was playing with a chip on their shoulder and needed a win badly to stop their bleed. The fans showed up for them. We had a key piece of the puzzle injured. The only thing that bothers me about this loss is the stupid game we dropped in Lubbock. You have to win the games you are supposed to win so you can weather losses like this.

I guess. Iowa State faced less of a turnaround time than we did, and had to travel back from West Virginia on Saturday night. A short-handed (and short) Baylor team won at ISU a week or so ago.

We've got some Vic-isms in this one (except for "you're either coaching it or allowing it" and "the game's real fair ya'll" - those are two of my favorites that I didn't hear). Nice to see Ndjakalenga finally get to the podium but damn on the local media for not even asking her a question.

Not a fan of Rori's declining shooting % from last year at every level or her body language. Just doesn't seem like she has put in the work we all heard about in the off season. If you listen and read between the lines Vic continues to send messages. "Its all about guard play" You get of the game what you put into it" etc
Her shooting % Less than 40% From 3 Lat year 32% this year 20%
Free throw line// This maddening for PG Last years 71% this year 56%

Always protected and never called out by any "media" this is too big of. sample size. Turnovers are also up from 2.2 a game to 3.3. Something unexpected from a Fr- Soph season as you learn the game.

Maybe Vic needs to take a look in the mirror. Yelling at the players over and over clearly isn't working. The same dumb mistakes over and over. Instead of yelling maybe he needs to teach them how to execute what he wants. And may be he needs to modify his strategy. He was schooled by Finnely last night.

And why is it on every drive isu has it spread out and a clear drive to the basket for an easy layup or a foul. But when Texas is on offense the lane is clogged up and when they can get it to the bigs they are immediately triple teamed and can't get a shot off or turn it over. And even the 3's get contested while isu constantly has wide open looks. You aren't going to win when the other team shoots 50%+ from 3 and you shoot .143.

ISU beats Texas in volleyball, women's tennis, and now women's basketball this school season? Yikes.

Amen, man! I'm a guy who played the game in college and coached females as well. As I've said before, women don't play up above the rim. It's much more physical down on the floor where the women's game is played. Refs need to adjust to that.

Maybe because we had to respect their multiple three point shooters, and they didn't have to respect ours last night? I mean, seriously, the game isn't all that hard to analyze.

First of all... we're all aware of Rori's decline in shooting percentages. But let's think about some things she's tasked with:

*Playing 40 minutes every game
*Running the offense, knowing the entire playbook
*The ONLY ball handler on the team
*Playing full court ball-hawk defense the whole game
*Getting the ball to the right people
*Being a scoring threat herself
*Do all this without fouling because we can't beat ANYONE in the Big 12 without her on the floor
*And she's just a sophomore

Let that sink in before you come on here bashing and ATTEMPTING to question her work ethic. Sounds to me like you've got some personal axe to grind.

If not for what I'm starting to realize was an intentionally orchestrated departure by a player I won't name, we wouldn't be this short handed and Rori would've had more "help" at her position. But then again that keyword "help" seems to be the real issue here.

1. ISU stands around in a zone defense every game and we obviously do not... big difference in energy spent.
2. Was that Baylor's fifth game in thirteen days?..
2. Anybody who couldn't see the fatigue in our players last night toward the end of the game wasn't paying attention.

edit: Three times in the fourth quarter where we closed within a possession or two, obvious fatigue led to our not securing a longer defensive rebound. All three times ended up in second-chance threes for ISU. There's your thwarted comeback and ball game right there. Credit ISU for taking advantage of those moments. Move on to the next game.
