Texas @ IowaSt. WBB (2/13/23)

Time to move on to the next challenge.
First, the bad stuff:
(1). Presumably, we will be without Sonya for this game; (2). This will be a road game; (3). They pretty much always fill the house when Texas comes to town. There is not much to do in Ames, but a chance to do the horns down in public is never something they want to pass up.

Now, the good stuff:
(1). Vic is 6-0 against IowaSt., including three road trips (I'm including the Big12 tourney meeting last year as a home game for IowaSt b/c we know it really was one).
(2). IowaSt. is on a very uncharacteristic three game losing streak. In reading their fans' social media posts, it looks like the 2 biggest problems have been: (A). Live by the 3, die by the 3; and (B). No inside game. Lets look at those 3 losses:
-@ KState (2/1/23) 78-77 8-22 3Pt (36%)
-Home vs. Bailer (2/4/23) 76-70 5-24 3Pt (21%)
-@ WVu (2/11/13) 73-60 5-30 3Pt (17%) (how does this happen after a bye week?). More than 50% of their shot attempts in this game where from 3pt range.

We do have to travel today, but at least the IowaSt. charter flight didn't arrive in Ames until 10:12 pm last night.

I think the key to the game will be a 4-headed monster (Taylor, Hadi, Dee & Amina). Yeah, guard play will be critical, but down low is where we have our best shot.

We've got a tough row to hoe the next couple of weeks. Here's hoping we can get win #21 tomorrow night but "it ain't gon be easy" especially if Morris is missing.

We have to be better at shutting down the three than we have been in our last couple of games. And for the love of man, we need to hit our free throws! Here’s hoping that Vic still has Bill’s number.

Morris was still having trouble walking on Saturday much less running, jumping etc. I sincerely doubt we will see her Monday evening, but I would LOVE to be wrong about that.

I think the first key to the game is keeping them frustrated, rushed, and shooting poorly from 3 point range. If we allow easy passes to open shooters all night and they hit 35% or more, we are in trouble.

Second key would be offensive rebounding and post play overwhelming their weak interior.

You know we won going out last season with Shay starting. She just needs to start taking some shots. I'm thinking we'll be okay as long as folks start playing like we're leading the conference, we're in the first 16, etc. You gotta own that!:cow::hookem2:

The committee just revealed us as #12 overall and OU not even top 16 but sure, let’s go with OU 15 and Texas 17.

Net Rankings:
Texas #10
OU #36

I've given up trying to understand the AP polls. I now lay attention to net rankings and just worry about us taking one game at a time.

Agree but it’s a marketing pitch that we are being wrongly limited by. Fans get excited about rankings and our women technically should be able to say #12. And really we could make a case for Top 10. How many times does Vic have to take us to the Elite 8 before sports writers give him that respect? We have beaten OU and have a better net ranking. We have the exact same win/loss record as UCLA and their net is 26. Alabama has the same win/loss record and a net of 22 and they aren’t even RV. And yet both OU and UCLA sit there at 15 and 16 while we follow at 17. The AP poll should go away and we all should be working from the Net Ranking. The game tonight should be billed as #10 vs #15.

Time to settle down and make some buckets. You know they're calling fouls against so make your buckets.

Bench get ready! At the rate they're calling fouls against us we might need to leave all of our fouls in Ames.
