Texas HS Championship Weekend

Kid gets blocked, spots the RB a six yard lead and then runs him down from behind with NO angle.

No quit; All gas, no brakes; the kid is all in. Sign him NOW, he's better than what we put on the field this year; at least he is hungry and balls to the wall.

Even on that Libert Hill #10 FB power run, that 0 filled the hole in the end zone and wouldn’t let go.
Kid is a MUST.
I did notice where he got blocked and yet made up ground to save a TD
IDE, give Bobby B a call and see if he can put a word into the UTs staff about this kid.

Update- I see that Catholics video actually shows the hustle this kid has.

What the hell are you.talking about? Criticize me all you want for what I post not what I don't. Also never claimed to have Burton's or anyone else's ear. Grow the **** up.

Hoff,

Congratulations. SOC came to play, and for us old timers make us rethink that when we think of SOC football, those thoughts go back to Mike Livingston.

As a DISD kid, I could not be happier for inner city Dallas and the SOC Golden Bears! Very Very Happy!

Now, I’d like my friend Reginald Samples to get his State Championship. Let’s go Duncanville!

And his son to be a candidate for UTs RB coach.

And somewhere Percy Penn said, "If I was still in charge, that would be Kimball"

From a fellow Kimball alum - beating SOC, Pinkston and Sunset was different from beating Carter. I don't think we beat Carter in my time at Kimball. Even in those days, SOC was good with Everson Walls, et al. I didn't have a clue who he was when I saw Kimball play SOC.

I knew a guy that transferred from Kimball to Carter (parents divorced and living in different parts of Oak Cliff). I asked him why transfer and he said that he wanted to play for a winner. Kimball wasn't bad, it just wasn't Carter.

I get the Percy Penn reference BTW.

I was in Rice Stadium to see the most controversial play in Texas HS history. Did Galena Park's Larry Davis catch the pass from Charlie Riggs (??) or not. Viper says absolutely not. Until this day, you can walk up to Larry and ask him, "Did you catch the ball", and he'll say, "damn sure did".

Got to see Earl put on a monster display in the Astrodome final.

Steve Worster destroyed McKinney in Waco.

I would like to tell you I saw the Austin Reagan comeback against Jack Mildren & Abilene Cooper, but I was so damn cold in Amon Carter, I think my eyeballs were frozen.

PNG & Permian in Texas Stadium in 1975.
PNG & Plano in Texas Stadium

I was there for what Coach Bill Ellington said was the greatest run in Texas HS history when he maintained his defense hit Gordon LeBouef 13 times in some 60 yards on the last play as Port Neches beat Garland in 1955. Yes, I was there, my mother held me most of the time and had earmuffs protecting me from the noise.

Kendall Briles display in the 1999 State Championship Game in the Astrodome was nothing short of spectacular. He played both ways.

Those are but a few, and if my brain turns on in the morning, it usually is off before 11.
Houston people have been crying over an illusion since December 1964.

Still one of the best championship games ever. Hate to think how good Galena Park would have been if Kenny Williams hadn't blown out his knee. His parents should have sued the Galena Park ISD.

Garland almost lost the first playoff game in 1964 to Texarkana after blowing them out in 1963. Ronnie Scoggins personally put the team on his back on the last drive of the game. Garland then cruised to the final against GP. The final was a srtuggle, but in the end the Garland guys (who had only one tie and one loss over two seasons) pulled it out. Agree on with he best of that era.

Well lookie here- Omar’s gloves at todays game

Watching Duncanville and North Shore, I can’t decide who to root for. I covered high school sports in the 80s in the Metroplex, and I remember a basketball game between Irving MacArthur and Duncanville in Duncanville. The Panthers came from 16 points behind with :08 left to beat the Cardinals. The officials made sure that Duncanville won. I think they were scared not to.

So North Shore has 20 coaches and 58 managers, assistants and trainers. My how things have changed. Back in the day in 4A (when it was the largest division) we had three coaches and two doubled as the track and baseball coach. There were two student trainers. Athletes were not the same, but teams played solid fundamentals and players were taught the fundamentals quite well. Maybe better in some cases.

With NIL turning college ball into semi-pro, it’s only logical that HS is the new college.

Gotta give credit to the ‘salt’ tablets!!
It’s a miracle we all don’t have ulcers from those way back when.
