I did not, but our HS coach got a copy of the film for us to watch a couple of times. Not sure where he got it, but we had it for about 36 hours and some guy came and picked it up.

I was in Rice Stadium to see the most controversial play in Texas HS history. Did Galena Park's Larry Davis catch the pass from Charlie Riggs (??) or not. Viper says absolutely not. Until this day, you can walk up to Larry and ask him, "Did you catch the ball", and he'll say, "damn sure did".

Got to see Earl put on a monster display in the Astrodome final.

Steve Worster destroyed McKinney in Waco.

I would like to tell you I saw the Austin Reagan comeback against Jack Mildren & Abilene Cooper, but I was so damn cold in Amon Carter, I think my eyeballs were frozen.

PNG & Permian in Texas Stadium in 1975.
PNG & Plano in Texas Stadium

I was there for what Coach Bill Ellington said was the greatest run in Texas HS history when he maintained his defense hit Gordon LeBouef 13 times in some 60 yards on the last play as Port Neches beat Garland in 1955. Yes, I was there, my mother held me most of the time and had earmuffs protecting me from the noise.

Kendall Briles display in the 1999 State Championship Game in the Astrodome was nothing short of spectacular. He played both ways.

Those are but a few, and if my brain turns on in the morning, it usually is off before 11.

Wish I had seen Worster
destroy McKinney in 1966 and Earl dominate Austin Reagan in 1973.

Back in the day my Dad talked endlessly about how allsome Worster was and how highly he was recruited nationwide. I was 13 in 1966 and had little clue how truly good Woo was - how much he would eventually be a huge factor in 2 NC's at UT.

As a Sophmore HS football player, I remember I idolized him.... he was a bad ***, punishing RB. Unfortunately, he had a bad last game vs. ND, but I never got over my man crush for him in those days.....

1967 AA title game here at the Fairgrounds............Jesuit 34, Lake Charles High 33. The difference was missed extra points......Flyers were coached by CO Brocato (longtime Oilers/Titans scout).......Lake Charles had a QB named Ken Lantrip who would go on to QB at La Tech........Flyers had a 1-2 punch at RB with FB/LB Louis Cascio (he would star at LSU as a LBer) and Danny Yerby who ran for over 300 yds in that game.

LH,

Earl was a helluva LB. In 1975, we played Colorado in the Bluebonnet Bowl. CU beat the crap out of us in the first half. Earl begged DKR to play defense. Finally, Coach Royal let him play on special teams. Between Earl and his brother (Steve ??), they blocked four (IIRC) kicks. CU had no answer for them.

Earl was offensive MVP and his brother was defensive MVP.

That CU team was loaded with future NFL players including THREE TEs.

11AM -LET’’S go SOC Golden Bears!
Could be story of year! Just saying!
Bunch of inner city kids with ZERO equipment just “ balling”…. And I LOVE IT!

12 Mighty Orphans was on cable last night. Allsome movie if you have not seen it. Some filming in and around Ft. Worth including abandoned old Masonic Home where the kids lived and played ball.

Judson beating Midland High on a last second deep bomb was both awesome and sad. The Dawgs were devastated as they saw their first state championship slip away.

TD SOC! LH tried to be sneaky with the inside kick, but it backfired. SOC either doesn’t have a FG kicker or they got big b****. Nice opening drive!

Can one of our smart posters tell me who controls the tv agreement between the high school playoff games and the network provider. Bally appears to be in a series of sh- t fights with everybody and most Texas residents are blocked out unless they purchase Comcast or Direct TV. UIL?
