Texas @ Georgia 02/24/2025

I was really impressed with the toughness of Georgia’s Mia Woolfolk. She gave Taylor as good as she got on those tie-up balls. Be great to see her in a program where she could truly be developed to her potential . . . *hint hint

Was not impressed with the demeanor of the Georgia coach from start of the game through to the handshake line. Rough year, I guess, but it makes me wonder how long they’ll hold onto her.

I thought the same thing about Woolfolk... hint hint.

Agree about Coach Abe. She looked more sad than mad most of the game. Twenty years ago they lived in the Top 10. I used to drive to Athens and go to games when I lived in Atlanta. They were a lot of fun to watch under Landers who was probably one of the best coaches to never win it all, but he might have stayed a little too long. Taylor wasn’t up for the task and is now bringing A&M down. Coach Abe had a big hole to dig out of and I am not sure if she was ever up to the task. The other SEC teams rose while GA sank. I bet GA gives her another year. It feels like they don’t seem to care much about WBB anymore and if a 26 point game doesn’t bring about change, we can write them off for a long time.

A few Tuesday morning comments. The offense struggled mightily in first half against a quick and physical Georgia sagging zone. The referees let em play and neither coach complained about that. Several comments on board regarding first half defense seem misguided. Yes Oldacre was slow on hedge and Preston got backdoored and looked lost in her second quarter defensive assignment; however, other than those few mishaps the defense was outstanding. The entire game. Don’t let offensive struggles frustrate defense view. Sad to see Georgia basketball attendances so low and product struggles after watching Coach Landers’ teams from the 1990s. Back to defense……the Texas defense is so solid fundamentally and they play so hard….if I’m an opponent coach or player watching, I’m dreading trying to score consistently. It’s a work of beauty. Offense sometimes struggles …..but defense always travels. Hoping it travels to Starkville.
Some good stuff here; captures my feelings exactly. Nice summary, especially the last two sentences.
