Texas Fans: Please Don't Boo Rice

The Houston area in general has been through so much this last week. Some areas are still under water while most of the city has no power.

The Rice team spent most of their practice time on Wednesday simply cleaning up their practice field of debris left from the hurricane.

I think it would be a much better gesture to treat these guys with the respect they deserve.

I agree with you, but I don't think most folks on here are the ones who boo other teams.

But if so, then yeah, please don't boo Rice. Those guys have had a heck of a week.

I couldn't agree more with the OP. The devastation that Houston and the coast has dealt with is enough already. The last thing they need is to be boo'd. IMHO booing is disrespectful because those guys work day in and day out to go out there on Saturday to play for thousands of people. Then you have shmucks who boo. How classless can you be?!

The only time I would boo is when the refs make a bogus call, but other than that, never to the other players, unless it's Kellen Heard knockin Colt out.

Remember that it is requested that we not boo the other team. So ought it be. But remember that we can and MUST cheer for our team. Go Horns!

Oh. Thanks.

I never took the time to look it up. I think someone down here mentioned that the game was supposed to be in Houston. We're about 5,000 miles away, so Houston & Austin are interchangeable from here.

thanks for clearing it up

it is funny because we have the same argument on the ou boards. it has been a matter of much debate, with the non booers seemingly the majority on the internet, being overpowered by the sudden urge of the average fan to boo the opponent when they first see them. no matter how weak the opponent.... as we sooners booed tennessee chat a couple weeks ago.

Student as well...

Most everybody around me was booing FAU - and they'll probably do it again to Rice. It is also likely that a drunk guy will knock me off the bleacher as he falls over, again.

Hurricane or not, why would we ever boo Rice? That's kind of like heckling the opposing team in your son's T-ball league. It has been a while since I attended a game with Rice, but have we ever booed them?

The reason why some folks boo'ed FAU, for those who don't have a clue on this thread-which is most, was because of the statements that Schnellenberger and players made...

Get a clue!

Who frickin boos Rice anyway? I'd boo Jerry's kids, or the ugly girls at the Town Lake Animal Shelter before I'd boo David Baliff and his fightin Rice Owls.

I'm a student who is pro booing. What is next? Are we going to become aggies and hiss? This anti-booing reminds me of the Txags uncover controversy. There has been way too much student hate in general on this board recently. That being said I would never boo rice regardless of the hurricane because it's rice. There is no reason the boo Rice, unless its baseball season.

I don't think booing the other team as they enter the field is a HUGE offense. To me, it's really more like booing the evil bank-owner when he comes on-stage in an old-timey melodrama, just before he tells Nellie that he has bought the mortgage to her farm and that if she proceeds to marry Dudley Do-Right that he will foreclose on her.

In other words, it's pretty innocuous booing, and only mildly annoys me.

But in this case, it's not something the players and coaches from Rice need to hear, and yet I have no doubt that they will.

How about going to the game and minding everyone's business...those kids aren't worried about that...

They're so occupied with assignments, coverages and is Kelly from Katy driving down to the game tonight and is she gonna let me play with her pantys?

I will never boo the other team. Or my team.

I will, however, boo SigPi and SATown. And scottsins.

Just because I can.

I agree. These players have had a very rough time. Many are still withiout power. They are sleeping at driend's apartments or coaches' offices on the floor or wherever they can find room. I'm sure they are looking forward to getting up to Austin and getting their minds back on football. We need to treat them with respect as fellow Texans who have had a tough time of it lately.
