Texas at Texas Tech March 25-27, 2022

As others have pointed out, way, way too early in the season to panic. I agree Nixon's performance so far this season is a concern. Gotta hope he'll find that strike zone again. I think the way the losses came about were so painful it made them seem even worse. The bottom line is, won 1 out of 3 in an opening Big 12 road series against a ranked team that hadn't lost a home game all season. Shouldn't ding us too much in the rankings.

And both losses were in extra innings.

One horrendous inning by ace pitcher Stevens. Hansen did so-so. We lost Hansen’s game 4-5 based on two errors in one inning that tied the game up for Tech. That, and a bizarre play where Tech stole home. Gordon did very well.

We all hope Stevens got that out of his system.

Number one Ole Miss gets swept at home by number 5 Tennessee. Number 3 Arky took two of three at Mizzou and number 4 Vandy lost 2 of 3 in Columbia. I think we wake up this week to a poll that has Texas fall to five or six and the Vols at number one.

I don’t care about the rankings or our record. The issue is that our bullpen is half-staffed with decent pitchers. The other half is grand slam breakfast time.

Tennessee is the real deal, we may have beat them early but I figure we are going to see them again, in my opinion, they are the best team in the country right now and I had those thoughts before they beat ole miss.

Have faith grasshopper. I for one still have my doubts about pierce simply because of 2019, there is no way we should ever be that bad even if pee wee Herman was coach. But this team is definitely better than average and I believe they will step it up to another level come playoff time. In the mean time, enjoy watching the process.

I wonder how Burns pitched for Tenn. IMHO, he’s the best we’ve faced all year.

Hmmmmmmmmm….

I see NIL potential for Denny’s….

My take at this point. Just one fan’s opinion.

Weekend starters: Hansen, Stevens, Gordon — all good

Midweek starter: Eckhardt? Looking pretty good, maybe too early to tell for sure.

Good relievers: Harrison, Sthehle, Nixon, Southard, Morehouse

Not enough innings to tell yet, but look promising: Cobb, Olivares, Johnson

Prone to giving up grand slams: DuPlantier

Freakish MLB slider and mid/high 90s fastball with movement, arguably most upside of anyone on the team, but needs work on control and becoming a complete pitcher—a project for now: Stewart

the other guys, I don’t know.

I agree with Chop on pitching and when you compare this staff to previous ones under Pierce it is Pierce's best group talent wise (even with loss of Witt). The problem is that it has yet to reach its potential. A lot of that is too many free base runners from otherwise elite pitchers and a couple of rough outings by pitchers who are better than they showed. I havent yet given up on DuPlantier and Blair but the problem is that the early season shakeout is done and the opportunities to give them a chance to work things out are all but gone. Eckhardt will get the start most likely tomorrow against aggy in a high pressure situation and we will see if he solidifies that number four role.

Good relievers? I haven't seen anyone, including Nixon, I can trust. Bullpen gives up way too many walks right now. The bullpen is our main problem that needs fixing.

A Sealy kid pitching against a$m? You don't see that every day.

nixon and Harrison are fine. Even the best pitchers in the majors lose a game. Both have plenty of history to know that this is just a rough part, I’m confident they will iron out their issues.
