Texas at TCU Wed nite @ 8 PM

alright. Horns survive 77-69, even with 21-25 to a 5-11 FT disparity in TCU's favor. :hookem2:Way to pull this one out, Horns. :yippee:

Will take the win; but, it was frustrating.

The fouls called against were mostly legit; TCU was just more aggressive driving to the basket. We were not; that surprised me. Thought we'd change in our offensive strategy ab it in order to get some foul calls driving to the basket, but we never really did.

On the other hand, we weren't exactly lighting it up from the free throw line, so perhaps it was better we didn't head to the foul line.

Not pleased with some of our decisions the last couple of minutes. Seems like we did not work the shot clock when we should have, and didn't always get the ball to our best free throw shooters knowing TCU would be fouling.

Glad to see Ariel find her shooting touch at the end of the game. Sitting out the entire second quarter probably kept her from getting in an offensive groove earlier.

Substitution patterns still a bit puzzling. Seemed like Higgs didn't see second half action until late in the third quarter. Thought we'd see more of Sutton at the end for ball handling and free throw shooting. No Jordan Hosey tonight. Just a couple of minutes for Jada. Tasia came in for a spell, but was not effective.

I wonder what is going on with Hosey. Is she not practicing well? Does she have an injury? Does anyone know?

Too close for comfort. Like others have said, losing Ariel for almost an entire half means trouble. Lashann did a good job of pulling us through. I'm glad TCU didn't play Ramirez more.

I suspect Coach Aston doesn't know what to do with Hosey.
She is a "tweener" or basically in the realm between a 4 and 3.

With all that being said, Hosey is one of our best post defenders who always draws at least one offensive foul from the other team. Plus, I feel she is a decent offensive rebounder.

Well it was a W but I decided maybe I'm not built for Big 12 road games. That was tough. I'm anxious to watch the replay for a different perspective.

You get the sense when Joyner shoots from mid and long range when it leaves her hands it's too hard, but it didn't seem that way in warm ups. So I'm hoping it's adrenaline and she'll be comfortable getting that under control and softens that touch with a little more maturity. She's got the moves though!

A win is a win but good lord we rushed our shots tonight. The line disparity could have cost us the game which speaks to our offensive power. Once again, we owe the game to Higgs who stepped up when Ariel went out. That's an impressive bench!

PS: I saw LA Sparks head coach Brian Agler at the game and Burnt Orange held a very nice percentage of the crowd.

5 Traveling calls? On freshmen, yes. But these are juniors.
Bri (senior) had at least 2 of them. Brooke's was a case of getting caught in the air without a clear player to pass to so I don't think it's as egregious as simply taking two steps/dragging the pivot foot before putting the ball on the floor - as both Briana (twice) and Lashann did.

Good, officials respond when they're given some "stern feedback" from coaches. If you look at the greats in the business, that is probably a common thread they all share.
That was one of they very, very few times I've ever seen Karen talk to an official for an extended time. These are the same officials who have to listen to Mulkey spewing on as her team races down the court with the ball past her and the official she's grabbed onto. Sometimes I think Mulkey does it so essentially they have one less official watching her players as they go on offense.

She lobbies for calls so that she can get a majority of the 50/50 ones. Case and point in the game in Austin last season. They got just about every 50/50 call there was to be had. Even this season, it has been the same way. Lone exception being the Uconn game, and that is because Geno was on the refs even harder.

That doesn't make any sense to me. If I were a ref I would make certain the 50/50 calls went against any coach who was in my ear, or on my back incessantly during the game. Otherwise you're just making the problem worse because other coaches are going to follow suit.

Glad to see Kelsey shooting so well from both the perimeter and down near the basket. For a few games, she wasn't hitting her perimeter shots.

Joyner's strength, quickness, and jumping ability is really starting to shine through as her rebounding numbers have been huge as of late. If she can stay determined to make rebounding a huge part of her game, the entire team benefits.

As great as it sounds, Aston headed home feeling flummoxed.

“There were just a lot of moments that were unusual for us,” she said. “Situations weren’t good. We work on situations a lot, like last-second stuff. We just weren’t real mentally there for 40 minutes, and you have to be in this league. I thought we were just a little bit too up and down.”
Guess we weren't the only wondering what was going on.

Holmes as a Freahman has already become what Nneka Enemkpali was to us as a Senior. I still wonder what that season would have looked like had Nneka not gotten injured in the Baylor game.

Conventional wisdom says you're right. But reality says that it works. You rarely see Mulkey, Walz, Geno, Freese etc. get techs or end up adversely affected by their behavior. I've only ever seen it work in their favor.

There's a lot that can be said on this topic, but I'd agree you only see it work in "their" favor. Some of these coaches on this list are actually very knowledgeable coaches. We as fans may look at these coaches as being too dramatic, but I'm assuming their dramatic selves come with great knowledge of the game which leads to great arguments.

I don't think it's usually that these coaches have great arguments, but more the mystique some of them have and the forcefulness and emotion they argue with. Sadly, this tacky behavior gets them a lot of "make up calls," IMO. I think refs need to have a little bit of a contrarian personality (not as contrary as Joey Crawford in the NBA).
