Texas at TCU May 7-9, 2021

TCU gets a 3-run homer off Shiflett to make it 9-3 but Nixon slams the door on them with 2 Ks and a groundout to end the game.

These guys came in averaging over 8 runs/game and we gave up 9 total in 3 games. Our pitching is legit.

Final 9-3. Couldn't finish the sutout, but a convincing W. Horns won 2 of 3 on the road - that should get some brownie points for hosting a Super. Now they need to take care of business and see if the Froggies will lose one or two in their final series.

K state isn’t very good but is still a threat on any given night. Go cats

I don’t like leaving so many men stranded on the bases like we did the first two games. But... we just took a series on the road against the number 3 team in the country. I’m feeling pretty good about this team.
:bevo:

Great win! I still regret what might have been.

With basic fundamentals yesterday, put the ball in play and sound base running, we sweep and lead by a game, not one game back.

Still, How 'bout them 'Horns!

You bet. Gotta like this pitching staff. Both the starters and the relief.

Gotta hope that KSU ace Jordan Wicks has his best stuff and gets enough help from his offense to take at least one game. Great to see the Horns bounce back after a frustrating loss on Saturday.

Horns 87 pointed out KSU - took 2 of 3 from tech!

At home, Mildcats are capable of taking 1-2 from the toads!

Horns just got to focus on taking 3 from the hillbilly baseball team next weekend!!

So the Horns do go 5-4 over the three series against ranked Big XII teams. I had hoped for 6-3 and with the series wins coming in both road series its unfortunate they didn't hit that mark. Texas sits a game back of TCU but has the tiebreaker and in the real race for a national seed the Horns are in great shape with five to play. They will host Texas Southern tomorrow and then a struggling Rice team a week from tomorrow before closing out the year with a three game home set against WVU. Texas has been outstanding at home all year and now is proving time so they can play at home all the way to Omaha.

Win all five remaining regular season games and Texas is likely a national seed regardless of what happens in the Big XII tournament. While we will all be watching to see if they can catch TCU, keep in mind that Tech sits two games back and has the tiebreaker over the Horns so Texas must win the series against WVU to keep from falling to third. Tech is also challenging for a national seed but its difficult to see the Big XII getting three national seeds so there are scenarios where Texas may need something in Big XII tourny too especially if they play Tech a fourth time and it comes down to Texas and Tech for a national seed. Still a lot to play for in the next couple of weeks to set up the tounry run.

What consequence of this tie breaker? Tourney seeding? Otherwise, ties at the top means you split the conference title.

You are correct that it really only has to do with seeding in the Big XII tournament but it plays a role in how the selection committee may look at things in terms of national seeding if it ends up with two teams vying for that last slot. If its Texas v. Tech for the last national seed then losing 2 of 3 at home (and potentially losing again in the tourny) is not good regardless of whether we finished a game or two ahead of them in the regular season standings. Bottom line is Texas is in great shape but they cant sleep on these last few games and I will only feel really good about a national seed if they can win these last five and win the Big XII regular season title. Any finish that involves Texas as two seed in the Big XII tourny and playing Tech again leaves open the possibility that TCU and Tech grab the two national seeds that I believe the Big XII will be getting.

I wonder how much the facilities and overall attractiveness of the town and venue come into play (including quality and availability of hotels--Lubbock's Overton Hotel is very good, but after that...).
