The Horns travel down to Don Sanders stadium in Huntsville for a mid week game with the Bearkats Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN+. With Lucas Gordon pitching two innings on Sunday the expectation has to be that DuPlantier will be the starter for the Horns but no official announcement has been made yet. SHSU is 4-4 having taken 3 of 4 from Nebraska along with win over a ranked Oklahoma State team but they just got swept by Dallas Baptist this past weekend so its hard to have a strong read on them early in the year.

The Sam Houston site has good summary of the history between the Horns and the Bearkats on the diamond.

Sam Houston Baseball History vs Texas

There’s not a great abundance on stuff about their starting pitcher, but here’s what I could find.

Cole Wesneski
RHP
Threw 4 scoreless innings in a win over Oklahoma State.
From Klein, Texas
Control pitcher/good command and control
Paints the corners
Fastball up into the 90s, but not considered a power pitcher
Good slider over which he also has good control
Doesn’t walk many batters
Throws a lot of strikes—makes the opposition beat him with hits
Played Summer League ball with a team called the “Round Rock Hairy Men”.

Nice base running by Daly.

Good to see Kennedy back and to know his back injury must not be too serious.

It’s on ESPN+

And they’ve got the C Team cameramen and announcers working this game…

Lead off double. Then nice fielding by Skye. One out they’ve got that man on second.

I’ve looking stadium for Sam. They’ve packed in 2,000 (capacity 1,200). Good to see they give a flip.

Ughhh. DuPlantier balked. Really weird looking move. Even I would have called that—and I hate the balk rule.

Now playing with fire. Man on third and this batter is hammering it very deep and foul third base lone.

Drat. Close call at first for the non double play. Right call—that batter was fast. :fire::fire::fire:

1-0 Sam.

Great foul/fly ball grab at the edge of the Sam dugout by Skye.

1-0 Sam. We’re fortunate they didn’t get 2 runs in that inning…

Guess Trey doesn’t believe in swinging on his first bat during a mid week game…

Thanks Chop
Hope there are a lot of Horn fans there
Weeelllllllllllll. Let’s just say it looks mostly like a crowd full of future teachers and cops. Good to see such strong support from a smaller school. .

Yeah!!!!!

Hodo 2 run hit to left field.

Staley and Skye score.

4-1 us

Now RBI single. Trey scores.

5-1 us

I read that Pierce scheduled it to help SHSU.Why would he?
He used to coach there I think. Also it’s roughly greater Houston and greater Houston is where we get so many great players.

(Just in case anybody out there didn’t know, most of the world’s greatest athletes and smartest persons are born and raised within a 100 mile radius of downtown Houston.)

Makes sense.
And better than a practice with not much extra effort
If it hadn't made me so late getting home I would have gone down.
