Is it because he relied on Augie's recruits? Texas missed out on John Savage has been so-so at UCLA since his title, Brian O'Connor had a down year last year but seems consistent.

Disch/Falk/Gustafson/Garrido lasted from 1911-2016, with Blair Cherry spelling Falk during WWII. I'd like for Pierce to be the answer but, if he's Blair Cherry, is it realistic for us to find a 20-25 year legend to continue the Longhorn legacy, or are those days gone?

David Pierce is far better than Shaka Smart, but replacing either is difficult because where do find the answer? Brian O'Connor had one great year, not so much since; besides, he has a great job with no pressure and decent pay. Other two PROVEN options are in conference.

Basketball? Easier to win the lottery than find the next John Wooden.

As bad as this team is playing right now replacing Pierce hasn't even crossed my mind and I'm not sure why anyone would be thinking that right now. The entire season has been odd with an unexpected sweep of LSU to blowing games at TCU to winning the Tech series to being run off the field in Stoolwater. Not sure what to make of it but no more than two weeks ago there was a discussion here about what we needed to do to host a super....hosting a regional was almost a given and now I'm wondering if we'll even make the conference tourney.

Whatever happened is something he'll have to work through, but I don't think its appropriate YET to talk about replacing him because of a two week weirdly terrible stretch. He better figure out how to get some big bats in the lineup or he won't last much more than another year or two playing like this.
