After starting conference play 4-0, KSU has lost 6 of 9, including Wednesday’s loss to OU to run their record to 7-9 in league play. Texas comes into this game on a two game winning streak, both at home, to go to 5-8 in the Big 12. KSU is seeking to maintain their standing in the top six of the conference while Texas wants into that group. KSU won the first meeting between the two in Austin, 64-55. KSU is 3-3 in home league games while Texas is 1-5 in league road games. Texas is on a four game league road game losing streak, not having won a road game since defeating A&M Jan. 11. KSU won against Kansas on Feb. 12 to snap a three game home losing streak. Both teams have wins over A&M as their best league wins with Texas 76-71 winning at College Station while KSU won at home 71-69 in OT.
KSU has a seven player rotation with five players having started all 13 games and two having played in those 13 games. Five others have gotten into various games with none averaging more than 7.1 mpg nor playing in more than 8 games. Branshea Brown (# 34, 6-2 Sr. F); Brittany Chambers (#2, 5-8 Jr. G); Jalana Childs (#33, 6-2 Sr. F); Tasha Dickey (#13, 5-10 Sr. G) and Mariah White (#22, Jr. G) are the five starters for KSU. The top reserves are Chantay Caron (#11, 5-11 Soph. G/F) and Ashia Woods (#23, 5-11 Fr. G) and average 12.1 mpg and 13.8 mpg, respectively. JuliAnne Chisholm (# 21, 5-11 Sr. G/F) and Stephanie Wittman (#14, 5-9 Soph. G) have each played in 8 Big 12 games, averaging 6.3 and 7.1 mpg, respectively. Four players for KSU average over 31 mpg: Chambers (37.0 mpg), White (33.4 mpg), Brown (32.7 mpg) and Childs (31.8 mpg). The fifth starter, Dickey, averages 29.2 mpg.
Chambers leads three Cats in double figure scoring at 15.1 ppg. Childs (12.2 ppg) and Dickey (11.1 ppg) join her in double figure scoring. That trio accounts for 38.4 pts of the 56.9 pts the Wildcats average. That’s 67.5% of the scoring. They are the only Cats with over 100 FG attempts in league games. Chambers’ 66-176 leads the team in FGs made and attempted. Childs’ 43.2% on 63 of 146 is the top percentage among the trio and the team. Chambers’ 100 3pt attempts is almost twice as many as Dickey’s 57 which is second on the team. Chambers has made 33 for a 33.0% from BTA while Dickey has connected on 13 for a 22.8%. White is the most accurate among the players who have played in every game at 11 of 26 for a 3pt percentage of 42.3%. Chisholm has hit on 5 of 9 treys (55.6%). Childs has been the most effective at getting to the FT line (48 attempts) but is not taking full advantage, converting only 66.7% of her FTs. Chambers (31-36, 86.1%), Dickey (21-26, 80.8%), White ( 20-26, 76.9%) and three others that each have hit 2-2 have helped KSU register a 74% team average from the FT line.
In addition to leading KSU in scoring, Chambers, a 5-8 G, leads them in rebounding at 5.8 rpg. The other four starters all average between 3.7 and 4.5 rpg. White leads with 71 assists while Brown adds 29 from the post and Chambers has registered 22 assists. Brown (14) and Childs (13) are the only Wildcats with more than 4 blocks. White has 33 steals to lead KSU while Dickey adds 20.
With only three guards available the last few games, Chassidy (35.7 mpg), Yvonne (33.7 mpg) and Ashleigh (33.1 mpg) are getting a ton of minutes. Yvonne and Ashleigh have started every conference game while Chassidy has started in 12 of 13. Anne Marie (16.8 mpg) and Nneka (19.2 mpg) have joined them in the starting lineup the last few games. Ashley (25.1 mpg) and Cokie (18.7 mpg) have been the ones that are the main reserves as Texas has used a 7 player rotation while Chelsea and Tiffany wait for clearance to return to the court. Chelsea has missed five games with an ankle injury while Tiffany has not accompanied the team when they fly.
Horns have three in double figure scoring: Chassidy (17.0 ppg), Yvonne (11.6 ppg) and Ashleigh (11.5 ppg). Chassidy leads the team in FGs made and attempted, hitting on 75 of 189 for 39.7%. Yvonne (57-136, 41.9%) and Ashleigh (54-161, 33.5%) are the other Horns that have taken at least 100 FG attempts. Anne Marie’s 46.7% (28-60) leads the team. Chassidy tops the team in 3pters made, attempted and 3pt%: 31-75, 41.3%. Chelsea is second in 3pt percentage at 34.6% (9-26). Yvonne (10-43, 23.3%) and Ashleigh (12-43, 27.9%) are second in 3pters attempted. Chassidy also leads in FTs made, attempted and FT %: 40-45, 88.9%. Yvonne (27-38, 71.1%) and Chelsea (17-24, 70.8%) join her as other Horns hitting at least 70% of their FTs.Yvonne has 77 assists to top the team in that category while Ashleigh adds 39. Ashley has 31 blocks and Nneka adds 10. Yvonne (30) and Ashleigh (26) lead four Horns with double digit steals.
Projected starting lineup is based on the last game. Texas has been starting the same lineup for the past few games while KSU has started the same lineup for all the Big 12 games.

Texas KSU
Anne Marie (6-3) Childs (6-2)
Nneka (6-1) Brown (6-2)
Yvonne (5-7) Chambers (5-7)
Ashleigh (5-8) White(5-7)
Chassidy (5-10) Dickey (5-10) [/pre]
Chambers (17 pts) and Childs (16 pts) helped KSU to a 64-55 win over Texas in Austin. They were outrebounded by 10 but got 9 more FGAs. Horns also made only 44% of their FTs, negating the advantage of taking 10 more FTs than KSU. Better interior defense by the Texas posts will be needed to keep Childs and Brown from scoring easily inside. Chambers will be much more difficult to contain. KSU will have the same trouble keeping Chassidy from scoring as Texas will with Chambers. Tough matchups for whoever is guarding those two. Horns’ posts contributed nine points in the last meeting, hitting 3 of 10 from the field. They will need to score a bit more to open it up inside for the Texas guards to penetrate.

Texas did a great job on the 3pt shooting by KSU in the last game, holding them to 26.7% (4-15) while hitting 41.2% (7-17) themselves. They gave up 18 pts off turnovers as they had 21 TOs to KSU’s 10. They will need to take better care of the ball while continuing to cover the 3pt line, a favorite spot for KSU shooters. A problem for the Horns has been their poor shooting in road games. They will need to overcome that issue if they expect to pull out the win against a patient KSU team. Of course, KSU has not exactly been great at home, going 3 and 3 so far. Horns will need to get more shots off, get to the FT line, and play with minimal fouling as only Brown is hitting less than 67% of her FTs while three of the players make over 75%. Horns need to dominate the boards and finish on offensive rebounds. Both teams turn the ball over about the same, although KSU forced 21 TOs while committing just 10 in the first game played. It should be a close game, with the Horns running and KSU slowing it down. Both teams can play either style, though Texas wants to push while KSU likes the half court offense. Neither team goes very deep into their bench. With Chelsea able to play, still no word on that, Texas has a slightly deeper bench. However, KSU has two guards off the bench to rotate while Texas uses two posts. There will be some height and quickness mismatches throughout the game. The question will be which team is able to take advantage of those that favor it.
The game is this Saturday at 6pm. The game will on FSN. This is the breast cancer awareness game (play for Kay) for KSU. KSU will wear pink unis and I would expect Texas to have pink trim on theirs.
