Texas at AM, game 1

Didn’t see the game last night. Heard some on the radio and went to game tracker when the men came on TV. But, it sounded much like other games this season.

Stanford, Tennessee, Baylor, and aTm are all very, very good basketball teams. No disgrace in losing those with a team that is half freshmen. But, the pattern always seems the same. Texas starts off well, often with a significant lead. But, in the end they can’t finish. Same thing with Missouri, and OK. This team has a focus on running and playing at a very fast pace. They generate some success with that strategy. But, in every game I have watched, you see the point at which fatigue starts to be a factor. That always seems, to me anyway, to be when I start noticing the physical and mental mistakes mb227 is talking about.

I don’t think it works for a player to try to pace themselves. You have to go as hard as you can all the time. But, this team lacks depth and there is a huge lack of experience in the depth that is available. I have high hopes for Chelsea and Tiffany. But, at this point they just do not bring the same production as the starters. I can only assume that Anne Marie is not getting it done in practice, or that she has some physical limitation that I don’t know about. We could obviously use another body at the post. I think a huge part of this season will be based on how those three progress. They are young and could develop quickly. But, that is far from a sure thing.

I don’t doubt AGs effort. But, it seems like the game does not come to her instinctively. Great rebounders have a knack for getting themselves in the appropriate space. AG doesn’t seem to have that. She is also not a natural scorer. She just doesn’t have the soft shooters touch, even under the basket. I do like her defense, I think she works very hard, and most of this season she has been much better about staying out of foul trouble.

This team is very close to being very good. They can be fun to watch and I think that is what we better focus on this year. I’m not going to get caught up in wins and losses this season. If they go on a winning streak I’ll be very happy. If not, I still see a lot of hope for the future.

Next season a young team will have more experience. Cokie Reed returns. At some point we will get to see Kayla Brewer. We add the #8 recruiting class in the country. Losing only the Nash sisters the roster should be at 14. We finally get to see what coach G can do with a team of her own making. I think they will be good. If not then it will be time for concern. For this season I’m not worried. Sometimes things have to get worse before they get better.

We are one Cokie away from beating Top 10 teams rather than just being competitive with them. I've waited this long. I can wait a little while longer.

This is the first season in a few years where I have actually been able to stomach our losses. You can see how close we are and you can see that this program is about to turn a corner.

I agree with everyone, we are about to turning the corner. And for the players they have available to play. They really have surprise me! But we could have easily have been 4 -0 at this point in the season. What I am starting to see,is that the players are running out of gas in the 2nd half.GG also have shorten up her rotation. If you are going to be a running team. You will not have a lot of success playing 8 players, and then minutes are not even.C.Bass, K.Nash and A.Hartung are not getting enough minutes.I would luv to see S.Lancaster hit the floor. With what shes brings to the game.
In order to get your veterans on the same page as C.Fussell. I would not start AT or A.Gayle.If you continue to start them.To me.they feel that their performance is ok.I am still trying to figure out,how is a freshman that much better then veterans.I dont get that.Because GG is a good coach.
