Terry on-the-fencers, how you like him now?

That's the thing. We sign him to a 3 year reasonable deal and if he ends up being what he has always been (.500) then we will ultimately be back at square one. I want rational heads to prevail. Against like conpetition he has been average. With a loaded, experienced team he inherited, he has done very well. Im just skeptical.

On the Beard/olemiss thread there are details about Beard’s contract $3.5 mil/year with a bunch of incentives. It’s a four year deal (didn’t go back and look). Those terms even if they are not correct would work for Terry’s contract as well. If CdC has to go to the $5 mil because of DEI pressures within the University, there needs to be a relatively low buyout, say $2.5 or 3 million. If Texas is Terry’s wheelhouse job, the contract can always be upgraded. As for recruiting, wasn’t Terry the top recruiting assistant.

So we all agree he's probably earned a contract. Below are the top 15 highest paid coaches this year. Do you believe he belongs on this list? #25 Makes $3.2 mil.

I say the answer is no for every reason already discussed about his past. I believe he earned a contract and I would go $3.0 mil 4 year contract with milestone incentives. I say 4 years because I believe next year will be tough with about half the team graduating and the rest being a junior or younger. If in two years he's making the tourney and making runs we pay the guy.

RANK HEAD COACH SCHOOL SALARY (2022-23)
1 John Calipari Kentucky $8.5 million
2 Bill Self Kansas $6 million
3 Tom Izzo Michigan St. $5.7 million
4 Rick Barnes Tennessee $5.5 million
5 Bruce Pearl Auburn $5.5 million
6 Tony Bennett Virginia $4.8 million
7 Brad Underwood Illinois $4.6 million
8 Bob Huggins West Virginia $4.2 million
9 Mick Cronin UCLA $4.1 million
9 Eric Musselman Arkansas $4.1 million
9 Buzz Williams Texas A&M $4.1 million
12 Dana Altman Oregon $4 million
13 Tommy Lloyd Arizona $4 million

I have no issue with that. Makes sense to be around $3M/yr for 4 years. I would bump up the incentives higher than what I saw for Beard at Ole Miss. Would gladly pay another $1M for a Natty in the next 4 years.

Sounds fair, although I was thinking initially $2.5MM with generous incentives.

I'm good with whatever incentives the university can afford to pay. If he takes his own team to the final four as far as I'm concerned have the incentive push him to be a top 10 paid coach, because that's what he'll get with the new contract if he does that.

Thank goodness for a rational post on this!!

He was the lead man on some guy named Durant.
I think that is correct but rest assured these guys do not come here for the lead recruiter or rt would have had a better record when he was on his own. They came for Rick Barnes and for Beard. This team sure lobbies for rt so he is liked but that doesnt matter for w/l.

I have had the pleasure of watching some of the most exceptional coaches to ever live in the high school ranks. One has almost 40 years of coaching and countless state titles at multiple levels of basketball both boys and girls. If you are a good coach it shows. For RT it has never shown. As most of you have noted, CDC will be thorough and we also loose the bulk of this team after the tourney.

All of us CDC wannabees have an opinion that could be right or terribly wrong. I would probably lean to whatever @SabreHorn thinks will happen. For me, I just think Terry deserves his chance with a big time program.

We’re assuming Terry has no options. If we go too low or too short, someone else will surely come calling and could snatch him up…..though I know he loves Texas. I guess we’ll find out soon how much CDC is/isn’t willing to bet on him.

He will want market value like Shaka got just because of his one final four appearance. So whatever happens tomorrow night will dictate the market.

I've heard that.

Terry will have to really work the portal in the offseason this year.

:bevo::bevo::bevo::bevo:

I'm thinking we'll do just fine there given the season so far. A trouncing such as the women's team suffered wouldn't help though.
